  • the devices are poor sounding and weak reception
I recently wrote reviews on "TV ears 2.3", & a Radio Shack Composite A/V switch. Information in those reviews may be helpful in the application of the Pyle Health TV Hearing Aid. We have had the Pyle dual TV listening aids for a week and have had an opportunity to compare them with the TV ears listening devices. Out of the box, the devices are poor sounding and weak reception. After charging headset Lithium-ion batteries for 24 hours, reception is crystal clear, with no static or diminished sound providing the user remains in a reasonable line of sight to the transmitter base. Speech is clear and understandable for our hearing impairment (ringing in ear). Very noticeable change, when adjusting Tone and or Volume. Separate on/off switch, allows sound settings to remain as set for the individual user. Microphone, with rubber cup that attaches to phone speakers/ear piece etc. and a clothes pin to use as you move about and need to hear. It functions well as a hearing aid device. We can actually understand speech in a crowded room better than a $6,000.00 hearing aid. I find the device to be much sturdier than TV Ears, better sound clarity and control, with more user options included. Vinyl ear buds can be changed, similar to TV Ears. After an hour of use, they were a bit uncomfortable on the ears, so I softened the stems and bent them farther apart to ease pressure on ears. (See how I did that in the TV Ears review) They are now comfortable to wear for several hours. I also discovered that the TV Ears foam ear covers are easily adapted in place of the Pyle ear buds, a personal preference to the supplied vinyl ear buds. The frequency for Pyle devices happens to be same as TV Ears and some Unisar devices @ 2.3 MHz, so they will receive audio from any of those transmitters. Headset charging however is not compatible between the different devices. ... show more

  • Earlier model was better
I have had a Pyle Health digital hearing assistance headphone system for a number of years and was very happy with it. but it stopped working so I ordered a new one because I was so happy with the old one. But the new one did not live up to my expectations. The old set would let me walk into different rooms and still get the audio from the T.V. This was very handy, as I could go do something else during commercials and could hear when the commercial was over and return to the show. This new headset stops the audio if you so much a turn your head away from looking straight at the T.V. Much less go into another room. Why can't the newer headsets have audio like the older ones?? Everything else, I like. Especially the sound balance for each ear in case one ear is more hard of hearing than the other. ... show more

  • Background static and volume control issues
We bought these to replace TV Ears, which have flimsier earphones and which broke way too soon. While these are sturdier and more comfortable than the TV Ears brand, the sound is not as good. The first set of these we got from Pyle had constant background static, especially noticeable during moments of silence in a show. Also, the headset volume control is very sensitive, and doesn't seem to have a maximum volume setting, so it's very easy to blast your eardrums, even if your TV volume is set way down. Seriously, until you get the hang of adjusting the volume, try to do it before you put them on, or you can suffer serious ear damage! I brought these problems to the attention of Pyle's tech support, who told us to return them and order another pair, which we did. However, the second set was the same as the first. For the static, Pyle said to try to move back from our TV set and make sure we're directly in front of the transmitter, but due to our room configuration. we can't move back more than 8 feet, and even though we are sitting directly in front of the transmitter, still there was static. As for the volume control, I think this is a safety hazard, so buyer beware! If you ever accidentally turn the volume up too high, it will blow you out of your chair, and probably blow out your eardrums! ... show more

  • Liked the design - wish they worked better
I gave it 3 stars because of the price, compared to others, and I like the design. The fit and feel are good. However, the first set I got, one of the headphones didn't work, so I sent it back and ordered another one. I use them to listen to the TV in my room. My roommate has hyper hearing so I can listen to the TV without disturbing him. I was thrilled to find both headsets worked great. I have normal hearing so I don't need to turn these up very much, but at a low volume there is a bad background hum and after using them for an hour and taking them off I could still hear the hum in my ears. I was afraid the might hurt my hearing so I sent them back once again. Too bad. I liked the design. I will be looking for a comparable device but a different brand. ... show more

  • Very satisfied with Pyle Health Wireless
Omigosh!! I love it!! I have Meniere's disease and lost my hearing in January, 2014. After many trips to doctors and paying over $6,000 for hearing aids, I still could not clearly hear what was going on around me. especially watching TV. On the suggestion of a friend I purchased this item. It was very easy to hook into my TV. When I watch TV or a movie, I am now able to clearly understand what is being said, even without my hearing aids.. The unit comes with a microphone that attaches to the unit. When I attach the microphone, I can enjoy conversations with friends. It even works when I go outside the house or to a restaurant. When I plug into the jack on my phone, I'm able to once, again, talk on the phone, which really pleases my children. The ear buds are a little uncomfortable. I wish they could be softer. I've only had this unit for 3 days, but I'm sure I will continue to love it. The unit still does not need to be charged, even after more than 8 hours' use each day. ... show more
