The first premise that is foundational to this review is that I expected that this a pair of hearing amplifiers, with noise cancelling features and that it is rechargeable. I can tell you that it is all of that and am happy with it. When I started using this, I started with 10 minutes per hour, and just in the mornings for a week, progressing to 15 minutes per hour in the following week, until I got used to wearing for a whole hour, as soon as I woke up and slowly adding afternoon's in. This allowed me to adapt to the use and I feel that that helped me be successful with this. I have not maxed out on the 15 hour working time, but can tell you that it lasts at least 12 hours. The container is a bit of a challenge to open sometimes, as there isn't a notch that I can grab a hold off, but I just added a small tape that provides enough friction for my thumb to catch on. It came with several tips that helped with sizing/fitment. These felt like it sat in my ear securely, but it took some getting used to get it out. It came with a handy cleaning brush, as well as screwdrivers to adjust the volume with. The power switch is easy to access and manipulate. The noise cancelling feature is decent (not perfect, and as such I took off 1 star). One of the better selling points includes years factory warranty and U.S. based customer care (although I have not found the need to use - good to know this).

Be aware that this review is for "[Upgraded Version] Hearing Aids for Seniors Adults with Dual Micphone, Rechargeable Sound Amplifiers with Noise Canceling, Invisible Digital OTC Hearing Amplifiers with LED Power Display Charging Case". Amazon sometimes combines reviews for multiple items together, so it can get confusing to know what item the review is assigned to. Although the words "Hearing Aids" appear in the title, these are hearing AMPLIFIERS. Hearing aids require a prescription from a doctor and cost several thousand dollars. That said, these hearing amplifiers are semi-effective, but some things make it hard for me to recommend unequivocally. Features that I like: 1. Rechargeable 2. Charging case with lights on outside showing the current level of charge 3. Different colored buds for each ear make it easy to differentiate between right and left 4. Toll-free US based customer service line 5. Three year warranty The not so good: 1. All sounds are amplified - not just the frequencies that are problematic for the user 2. Underlying static and hiss, no matter what volume is used. Some voices can sound metallic 3. Super tiny tools. We already lost a screwdriver used to adjust the volume, but luckily it came with two 4. Instructions are very hard to read (print too small for older people with failing vision) 5. The outside of the case can get slick and very difficult to open 6. There is no tab or wire to remove the device from your ears easily The directions suggest a wearing schedule to work your way into wearing the amplifiers full-time. In the first week, you wear them for 30 minutes each day. Then you begin to increase the time a little each day. This is supposed to get one accustomed to hearing more ambient sounds than normal. These definitely amplify sounds and I was able to pick up sounds that I could not without amplification. Unfortunately, I could never get perfectly clear sound. No matter what volume I used, there was always a detectable hiss when I had the amplifiers in my ears. I also encountered feedback each time I inserted or removed the devices. That was extremely annoying, and slightly painful. It was also the final straw that made me give up trying to make these work for me. As I pointed out earlier, there is a lot to like about these hearing amplifiers. It's too bad that they were just not the best for me.

The hearing aids came 99% charged, which made me happy right off the bat. The instructions, though printed too small and a bit blurry, are in perfect English, which also made me happy. There’s an 800 number for questions; and the customer service center is in North Carolina, which means they speak English. No shape of earbud has ever fit my ears. They always fall out. These hearing aids, however, came with enough silicone earbud options so that I was able to find the perfect fit for both my ears. I did get a little feedback sound at first, but the instructions said to try a different fitting earbud, and when I did the feedback went away. Let me say up front that I am not hearing challenged. My hearing loss is normal for my age, at least according to the last test I was administered. However, when I put these hearing aids in my ears, even at the lowest volume possible, the world came to life in colors! It was almost too much. The instructions say that you need a period of adjustment for your brain to differentiate ambient sounds from the sounds on which your ears should focus. The instructions suggest wearing the hearing aids only 30 minutes at first, then increasing the amount of time you wear them. Also — and I think this is an important piece of advice — the instructions say to listen to a familiar song or a TV show without reading the subtitles, and see what new sounds you now hear. I did that with a song I love and it was stunning how many musical nuances I was missing. It was almost like listening to a song on headsets for the first time. The sounds you hear with these hearing aids definitely are more high-pitched than bassey, but that’s appropriate since it’s the high-pitched sounds you first lose as you age. I must say that I am astonished at how well these work. I also like that the hearing aid ear pieces are different colors. One is red, the other blue -- in case you want to customize ears differently. PS: You should get your ears cleaned before wearing these, otherwise the sound may be muted.
