  • Love it, but with one minor complaint about charging
Item Package Quantity: 1
I have moderate hearing loss in my right ear and previously tried hearing aids through the audiologist linked to my health insurance. I paid $795 per ear (the audiologist recommended both ears for “balance” even though I was only concerned about one ear) for commercial aids with a list price of $3000 each. The experience with the audiologist was very much like visiting a car dealer… lots of sell mixed with counseling. Those hearing aids definitely provided amplification but the result was very unsatisfactory. The sound was tinny like a cheap speaker on a child’s toy. I returned them within the trial period and paid “just” $295 per side after cancellation. I’ve gone without for 2 years and noticed my right ear hearing was getting worse (hard to hear TV and certain frequencies of conversation, and difficulty conversing in loud venues like parties) so I decided to try one of the well reviewed amplifiers on Amazon. I am pleased, surprised and delighted with the performance of the Banlijian ZIV-201. It provides what I expected in a hearing aid to begin with: it amplifies sounds without distorting them, and without adding a lot of room ambient noise. I find I prefer it at the highest volume setting, so I probably should have ordered the “moderate to severe hearing loss” model but for now this one meets my needs. I had no problems fitting the device and was able to choose the right length for the tube and the right earpiece first time out. I’ve been using it about a week and now look forward to putting it on each morning. (This from someone who was concerned about age-related stigma of a hearing aid and wanted to avoid wearing one as long as possible.) I also received the secondary ear tube sets with the square end piece that confuses people. I could not figure out (after reading the instructions) how to install those pieces but no need because the simpler tube works fine. If you do want/need to use those secondary pieces, note that there are tiny marks (red and blue) on the tubes to denote which is for which ear. My only negative is the charging procedure. I love the rechargeable battery after fussing with those tiny hearing aid batteries. The manufacturer advises no overnight charging because it could damage the battery. (They say this directly in one of the answered questions above.) You are also supposed to let the battery drain completely for at least the first couple of charges to condition it. My process has been to charge the battery for two hours when I get up in the morning, wear it all day (it has never run out of power while I was using it) then let it run down completely by leaving it on when I go to sleep. Thus it’s unavailable to me during the two hours when it’s charging in the morning. I’d prefer to be able to take it out at bedtime when it still has a charge, charge overnight, and put on immediately in the morning but that would be counter to the manufacturer’s advice. Note: this review is for the ZIV-201 which is for mild to moderate hearing loss and provides 20-24 hours usability after 2 hour charge time. It seems like Amazon puts many Banlijian reviews under the wrong product, or else reviewers are reviewing the wrong product. UPDATE: I misplaced the ZIV-201 and ordered the "Banglijian Hearing Amplifier Rechargeable Personal Sound Amplifier (PSAP) with Digital Noise Cancelling to Aid and Assist Hearing" which is supposed to be for more severe hearing loss. The latter has more adjustments and a longer battery life, and is cheaper. However, when I found the ZIV-201 I found I still preferred it. It seems to have just the right hearing amplification profile for me. After several months I found the ZIV-201 battery was dying quickly and contacted the seller for warranty service. They were just as cooperative as other reviewers have said. I now have a replacement that works as well as the original. ... show more

  • These only last about a year to a year-and-a-half!
Item Package Quantity: 1
I ordered this item in May of 2018. It worked quite well for slightly over a year. Then it simply died. I could no longer charge the internal battery -- it wouldn't hold a charge at all. When I contacted the company to find out if there was a way to have the internal battery recharged or replaced, their response was to send me a replacement hearing aid. No word of any kind about whether it not it is possible to recharge or replace the internal battery. I came to the conclusion that once these units die, the only solution is to order a replacement. If you buy them in pairs (I ordered another one a couple of weeks after ordering this one), that means that you had better be ready to shell out $240 - $270 for a pair of these every year -- or every year-and-a-half. A year-and-a-half is the longest the internal battery seems to last. Since I'm on a fixed income, this is too expensive for me. I've decided that I'd probably be better off buying a set of hearing aids that use replaceable batteries. At least the capital outlay would be less at a time than a very large amount of money all at once. I waited as long as I did to write this review because I wanted to see just how long these units actually last. Not long enough for my financial situation, I'm afraid. I ultimately bought four of these units, and while they operated well while they lasted, they just don't last long enough for my needs. So that's why I gave the item only three stars -- not for operational reasons but for very limited battery life. ... show more

  • Outstanding Earpiece, Still Working 1.5 years later.
Item Package Quantity: 1
My lovely wife had major surgery on her ear a few years back. Initially, she was given a pair of Hearing Aids that operated on batteries. After about a year, they seemed to be in for repair, more than in her ear. After they finally cost more to repair than buy new... We looked at these to solve her hearing problem. At first I bought one, (sort of a tester). Wow, she was able to hear again and she said that the Comfort was as good, if not better, than the $900.00 medically issued ones. However, since this new hearing aid had a sealed battery, I knew that there would be a time when it would go dead, and during the charging process, she'd have no hearing ability. So, we purchased another one! Owning Two. Updated: 5/29/2021 So, now my wife has the ability to hear, 24/7, if she chooses too. She wears these "Banglijian Hearing Amplifier Rechargeable Ziv-201 hearing amplifiers", about 12 to 16 hours, every day, before she hands them over to me, and I plug them into the USB Port for charging. I know that the instructions don't recommend charging overnight, but ever since we purchased these, back in mid 2019 - ( it's now May 29, 2021 ), I have put these on the charging USB cable every other night, all night long, (approximately 8 hours), and we haven't noticed any changes or problems with them. * Notice that I mentioned the words: "These and Them". It's because we purchased Two units. Giving my wife a way to always have hearing ability and always having a fresh, fully charged hearing amplifier. Would we buy these again? Yes. Do we recommend these Rechargeable Ziv-201's ? Yes. But, we can only testify to Model Ziv-201. Going on 1.5 Years and the only thing that we have done, is replace the ear end cup, (which came with the Amplifier), and that was done today - May 29, 2021. We'd like to Thank the Manufacturer and the Seller for providing an affordable product with what seems to be a nice quality item. We have not been compensated for our review and we are real people who honestly brought 2 of these Amplifiers. Downside? A little tricky to learn how to assemble them. But, with a little patience and lay out the tubes before cutting them, you'll do fine. If you're looking for a great product at a reasonable price? We don't think that you can go wrong with these, you'll see. Please, you'll know immediately whether they work for you or not? They have a return program if not! NEGATIVE: It would be nice if these Hearing Amplifiers were made with the Newer Style "C", Charging Cable; being universal. It's a bit difficult to figure out which way you plug in the USB, especially when you first have these. But, you really can't go wrong with these, even with the USB. If you want to hear again? Buy them. . . The Ziv-201 was our choice. Darrell and Tammy Cook Livermore, CA. ... show more
