  • Excellent alternative to hearing aids
Color: Black
My father has been losing a little of his hearing and is still reluctant to officially get a medical hearing aid (cost and embarrassment). He has struggled to hear in group conversations, outdoors, and watching TV. To overcome this, he often asks people to repeat what they said "what?", read lips, or turn the TV volume way up. Surprisingly, this hearing amplifier has noticeably helped! He is currently only using it at home to watch TV or around the family while getting used to it and it has greatly improved his and our experiences. The amplifiers are very small and look like Bluetooth earbuds so no one really knows what they are. The case is a charger and they also auto-sleep when removed from your ears. One thing to note is that the controls are a little difficult for him with volume buttons also being dual-use as mode select; he's just leaving it in the current mode (standard) and volume setting that he likes (one up from lowest). Changing volume and mode settings only respond with beeps or multiple beeps and we both thought it was confusing to know what mode each earpiece was in (they are controlled separately). We thought voice responses would have been better when changing settings, e.g. "volume 2" and "standard mode"). The beep tones are different between left and right earpieces and we were not sure if it was intentional or not. Overall, an excellent short-term solution until ready for hearing aids. ... show more

Fit like earbuds which was nice. Amplifies the television or general conversations. Does pick up background noises, as well.

  • Not just for seniors:
Color: Black
The product description perpetuates a myth that hearing aids are just for seniors. Step one is hearing test with this model of hearing amplifier. This Tangsonic set with noise cancellation is a highly visible type, even more so than those that rest behind the ear. Don’t expect perfection in this modest level price range, however. Hearing loss runs in our family and my father wore a hearing aid for decades. This model includes two hearing aids, (actually amplifiers) whether you need in each ear or not. Its average sound gain is unknown and peak gain is also unlisted. It is rechargeable and well packaged if considering as a gift. It comes with a finestorage case, too. My suggestion is to first discuss your needs with your audiologist, and not one whose primary goal is to sell you THEIR product. Second, make a return visit and have your hearing tested with this device. With any hearing aid, make sure you are not getting extraneous noises that will eventually drive you crazy. One downside is that at the time of this review, this model is not covered by Amazon’s 30 day free returns if not working well for you. Most comparable hearing aids are. ... show more

  • Comfortable. Several modes. A bit large. Weak low and high end. No bluetooth or app. 12h use-time
Color: Black
These are comfortable in-ear amplifiers, though they seem a bit larger than bluetooth earbuds that they look like. You can select several modes which are pretty good in different settings, but the sound response seems weak at the low and high ends, so they dampen music somewhat. There is no way to play bluetooth through these, which means you can use them for phone calls or media play. There is no app, so all controls are push-buttons right on the device, which can be awkward for large fingers and for hitting the same settings especially when changing modes. These say they work for 12-hours on a charge, which is shorter than others. ... show more

  • In ear amplifiers look like earbuds. Squelching at high volumes. Decent noise shaping. Model JH-A32
Color: Black
Let's make something quite clear here. These are NOT hearing aids. Hearing aids provide the ability for parametric equalization. Every person's hearing is different. Even if you are "hard of hearing," the reality is that you have lost more hearing at some frequencies than others. A good hearing aid will increase the volumes at the frequencies where your hearing loss is most profound and will provide less volume increase where your loss is similarly less severe. Typically, an audiologist will give you a very detailed hearing test and then adjust the hearing aids to complement your personal hearing profile. Modern hearing aids typically connect to a Bluetooth device and application to aid in adjustment. And in addition to their ability to customize to each wearer, they often include such features as active noise reduction (ANR) to reduce the level of white noise in the environment and, in some cases, provide multiple microphones to adjust the spatial extent of where they primarily pick up sound. These devices are NOT hearing aids. They are "in-ear amplifiers." That means that they can't be adjusted to reflect your individual hearing loss. Instead, they amplify all sounds in a specified range equally (or at least in a manner that is not adjustable). It's "one size fits all" with these. That's not terrible--they will make it easier to hear if you suffer serious hearing loss. But it does mean that you aren't getting an optimized experience. Anyone with serious hearing loss and who plans to wear hearing aids every day should consider buying true hearing aids. BUT, and this is key, a good pair of modern hearing aids can easily cost 10-20x or more what these cost. So if you just want to try out what hearing amplification might do for you without investing all that money--or if you simply can't afford the expensive hearing aids, these are an alternate solution. There are also a lot of people with hearing that's still on the border--not yet bad enough to require a hearing aid, but such that they have trouble in some environments. For example, many of us have trouble hearing in a noisy restaurant, even if our hearing is particularly awful. So that's the backstory of why someone might want a pair of in-ear amplifiers like these. In the kit, you get ** Left and right in-ear amplifiers ** Charging case. Case can recharge the amplifiers multiple times on a single charge ** USB-C cable that connects to the charging box ** Fouradditional silicon amplfier tips in various sizes/shapes. (Medium are pre-installed) ** Cleaning brush Getting started, you'll need to charge the amplifiers. They come partially charged, but it's best to fully charge them before your first use. Just seat them in the charging box, connect the USB cable and power supply, and wait < 2 hours for a full charge. When they're charged, you put them in your ears. They turn on automatically. You can adjust the volume using +/- buttons on the amplifiers. You can also choose among four "modes" by a long hold of the + or - button. It is possible to use the controls with amplifiers in your ears, although it may take a bit of effort to get comfortable with them. At maximum volume, these get reasonably loud, but I found that they had a high propensity to squeal at the highest volume. I turned them down two notches to totally avoid squealing, but at that setting, they volume isn't as high as I'd want. They provide about 30dB of amplification at the top loudness setting--although, as noted, that setting is fairly useless because of continual squealing. The frequency range for these is 450-4000Hz range, which overlaps most of the typical range human conversation. They don't amplify the high end--which means they won't provide a particularly realistic soundstage for those with severe hearing loss, but they do a good job on focusing on the range where the human speaking voice concentrates. But they're certainly telephonic, not full frequency, and most people won't find listening to music with them all that great. They are for understanding the human voice, mostly. A full charge takes about 2 hours and is rated to last about 12 hours in use. I find 12 hours on the low end, and that's a lot less than some competing in-ear amplifiers. 12 hours isn't a full day for many people, and if you're wearing these full time, you don't want to deal with recharging in the middle of the day. 12 hours is fine if you plan to only use these occasionally, though. A fully charged charging case should provide several full charges of the amplifiers. There are four modes provided with these amplifiers: Standard, Noise Reduction, Conversation and Outdoor. They claim to integrate some noise canceling, or at least sound focusing, and I did find that in a noisy place the various modes other than standard did seem to reduce the amount of random noise interference. These seem to work better in that regard than other in-ear amplifiers I've tried. On the whole, these are decent enough. They definitely amplify sounds and provide a clear (if telephonic) signal. They are very comfortable in the ear, and I like that they could pass for music earbuds. The price is OK, although you should shop around as the same brand and model (JH-A32) is sold by various sellers at various prices. Pros: ** Comfortable and can pass for music earbuds ** Uses standard USB-C charging port on charging case ** Charging case has its own battery and can recharge amplifiers multiple times on a full charge ** Provides useful amplification in the range of the human voice ** Easy to adjust settings while they are in your ears ** Noise reduction provides some relief from noise overload in noisy environments Cons: ** Not hearing aids--not able to fine-tune spectrum response ** Only 12 hours on a full charge (not a full day for many) ** No Bluetooth connectivity or app ** Not the loudest in-ear amplifiers I've tested ** Not a good choice if you want hearing aids to enjoy music ... show more
