Description

Electric Amethyst Electric Amethyst is a glowing, medium violet dye with cool, blue-ish undertones. For best results, we recommend lightening hair to the lightest level 10 blonde before use. 1. Wash hair with a deep cleansing/clarifying shampoo. Do not condition. 2. Dry hair with a blow dryer to make sure the hair is extremely porous. 3. Put on gloves and apply Manic Panic Hair Color using a tint brush making sure hair is thoroughly saturated. 4. Comb through the hair color to make sure it is evenly applied. The cream may become slightly frothy. 5. Cover hair with a plastic cap and leave on for 30-45 minutes. For more intensity, add heat. 6. Rinse with cool water away from your face and body until water runs clear. Do not shampoo. 7. Style as desired. To prevent color transfer or bleeding, always make sure your hair is completely dry. Pro Tip: Use a hair dryer to evenly apply heat for 5-10 minutes of your processing time. This will help to open up the cuticle and allow the Manic Panic hair color to better penetrate the hair strand. Make sure to allow the hair to cool completely before rinsing out color.

  • Surprisingly good
I bought a few of these- the navy and the bubble gum pink. The pink I'm super disappointed in- it must need to be virgin hair or bleached blonde for it to make a difference. Which is odd because that is not true for this purple. I was highly skeptical of this shade since the pink was a bust, it looks thin, and it doesn't have any harsh chemicals to set it in vibrantly. I left all three in my hair for hours, and while the pink originally took well enough, once it came out, it just never wanted to go back in. This purple however, holy cow!! It has lasted just as long as the Splat Turquoise I also had in there. And it was ELECTRIC purple. Somehow this purple managed to outlive almost every other brand I had on my rainbow hair. Hopefully you get the same results, I never would have guessed it! My picture shows all the various colors I used- the chunks of hair were bleached to a pastel sort of yellowy-white since I have previous color in. the purple is up top and the pink below....obviously :P I may not use these again because while beautiful, it was a pain to reapply and sit for hours just to have it barely perk up the color it once was. I may go for a more lasting and yes, unfortunately more caustic- dye. But for how nicely they took originally and how nicely they smelled and how nicely they faded out- I'm not mad. The pink faded out to a greyish-lilac that I actually really like, and the purple -when it finally started to leave- was more of a blue-purple and probably would have just gone to blue forever after that. ... show more

  • don't rely on Reviews fully!!
I am 43 Yrs Old I have been dying my hair weird colors since I was 16. I started out mixing koolaid hair conditioner and food coloring. That was a bit of a challenge. started using Manic Panic when I was 19. I read reviews on many of amazon's manic panic pages even artic fox's. there are a few things that could be going wrong for those dying their hair with either product. So I was writing this to per haps offer a bit of my own advice from experience. If you are bleaching your hair. Give your hair 1 day to relax and condition it after bleaching.Personally Olaplex No.1 is great however not to my experience to use the day you apply your manic panic/or preffered dye wash your hair with dandruff shampoo IE head and shoulders .. this will not strip hair the same as normal shampoo do not condition before bed is best time to put manic panic/arctic fox into your hair . wraps your head with something like seran wrap not tight obviously or use a shower cap. sleep with dye in your hair .NO it's semi perminant hair dye which means no harmful ammonia or other damaging agents. Rinse when awake . More you wash your hair the faster it will come out . Some hair types require for people to wash daily. I would keep to an dandruff shampoo. Personally I wash mine 2 to 3 times a week max and my hair doesn't fade so fast. UPDATE; it's been a month my hair has faded to a light purple.. I could probably go longer before it completely fades out. my recommendations do not pay attention to the ones who gave a bad review. Some are new and Manic Panic does not mention that the longer it is left in the longer it will last. That might solve some problems. I feel before you chose any semi perm dye to do a bit of research and make your choices by those of us who been doing this for years or a hair stylist. ... show more

  • Great as a toner. Meh as a dye.
I know Manic Panic has been around for a while, but this was my first time ever using it. While I didn't hate it, I probably won't buy it again. I was looking for more of a pinky purple than a violet purpley purple, but this was all I could find so I decided to make it work. My hair was a dark blonde that ombre'd into a light blonde when I started (first pic). I bleached it first (55 minutes) which turned everything orange (and my roots white!). So I mixed some of the Manic Panic with white conditioner to make a toner. I put that on my hair for about 15 minutes and rinsed. It came to a nice light platinum blonde color. Then it was time to dye. I made another mixture of about 1/4 white conditioner with 3/4 color and slapped that on my head. I mixed conditioner with mine to keep it from being TOO purple. If you want that dark WOW PURPLE, then don't do what I did. I put on a shower cap and kept it on for about 4 hours. After rinsing, I wound up with a weird silver color with blue tips and roots (second picture). Two days later, I did another round of color. This time I did 2/3 color and 1/3 conditioner. I left it on for another 3 hours and the color came out WONDERFUL. It is absolutely beautiful and I got so many compliments on it. I am a little upset that this washes out almost completely after 2 washes. Usually temporary color lasts at least a week (4+ washes). I probably won't use this color again unless I need to make a toner. It works PERFECTLY as a toner. Seriously. The best I've ever used. My hair has never gone from yellow to silver so quickly and easily. ... show more

  • Disappointing
I was so excited for this color and I'm so bummed. I bleached my hair first and did everything right, but most of the color washed out right away. I got a smokey bluish purple, not a vibrant purple like I expected. Well, I got the vibrant purple in 2 spots, right above my ears along my scalp, but literally nowhere else. I don't hate the end result, but it is definitely not what I expected or what the ad showed the result would be. I was told Manic Panic was one of the better options for vibrant color hair dye, but I won't be using it again. Very disappointing. I will say it was very easy to use, thick easy to apply texture, but also wish there was more in a container. I only did the underneath layer of my hair and one tub was enough, but if I did all my hair, it would've taken three of these. ... show more

  • Electric Amethyst. Love the color, but it fades kind of quick? Still wonderful.
(First, I mix up the difference between purple and violet.. I know one is a bluer purple/violet, so I will just be calling this purple) This stuff is a unique color. And fades pretty rapidly. However, I LOVE the color that it fades into. It's a real fun experiment, watching the colors change. Like a tree's leaves in the autumn months.. If you don't like the color it fades to (I love it, it want from a bluish purple to a purplish blue to a light blue to an aqua color. ) then just re-dye your hair. If you don't like the idea of color fading, get used to it, or don't dye your hair unnatural colors. It does seem to me like it fades faster than other hair dye from Manic Panic, but it has also been a while since I have dyed it a fun unnatural color. This shade looks wonderful on my skin tone personally. Some people look good with other purples, and I found my purple. (Violet?) But this one is unique. I love it. ... show more

  • Nope
Not buyin this again. Although the color is beautiful and does look lovely on the hair it does not look lovely eveywhere else, for example, shirts collars, blankets, pillows, jackets, couches if theyre cloth, and lets not forget the bath tub and shower walls. It all took so long to scrub off. Good luck to whoever buys it. ... show more

  • Beware for Unbleached Hair
I think that this shade is beautiful, but I was not able to get any color at all onto my dirty blonde hair. I know that Manic Panic dyes work best on bleached hair, but I refuse to bleach mine; after seeing the reviews that others with unbleached and even quite dark hair had been able to achieve their desired result with the dye, I decided to go ahead and try. At first, I mixed it with a bit of conditioner in order to get a color that was a bit lighter and applied this mixture to the ends of my hair for an ombré effect. I left it in for around two hours and when I washed it out, my hair looked exactly the same. I figured that this was due to my hair being unbleached and decided I couldn't mix in anything to dilute the color or it wouldn't show up. I then applied straight dye to the ends of my hair a few days later and left the color in for around three hours. On both occasions, when I went to rinse out my hair in cold water, there was no runoff from the dye, which I found strange. Every other time I have dyed my hair, the floor of my shower is absolutely covered in excess dye. I'm not sure if this is due to an error on my part, the nature of the dye being vegan/chemical-free, or a defect in the product, but I found it strange. This time, I noticed that the color had taken a little, although it was an unsightly dark ash gray with no undertones of purple. Thankfully this was gone within a few washes. Other reviewers have been able to get a color they liked, but if you have unbleached hair, I would still be aware that this may not be the color for you. TL;DR: My hair is unbleached (although still relatively light in color) and after multiple attempts and several hours I was unable to get this color to show up on my hair. When it did it was not purple in any way, shape, or form. You may be able to get this to work for you with unbleached hair but I would be aware that you may end up with something that is not very close to purple! ... show more
