This is a long one but bare with me. I have been dying my hair with Pravana Color Vivids Violet for 4 years now. I bleach my hair every 4 months and would have to color my hair with Pravana every 3-4 weeks to maintain a non faded purple. I wash my hair every 2-3 days given how active I am and use a non spray fry shampoo in-between washes. It was rough, but if you have a bright color you know the struggle. Well in the last year Pravana has gotten harder and harder to find and they’ve changed their formula. I ended up needing to give myself a refresh for a last minute event and couldn’t get any Pravana in in time so I stumbled upon this dye. Reading the reviews I was skeptical but it was the only one I could get in time. I tried it my have been absolutely blown away with the quality! Pros: -The color LASTS!!! 7weeks until I needed a refresh. I’m talking washing every other day and heat styling! And it was still bright and vivid. -The fade out is even. (IYKYK) -The color is vibrant! (Granted it’s not the same hue I’ve been used to with Pravana, but it looks amazing!) Cons: -It does stain in the washout, but no worse then Pravana has for me in the past. And it’s easy to clean off of surfaces with a bit of all purpose cleaner as long as you don’t let it sit too long. But I do recommend wearing gloves during the washout and doing an initial sink rinse before a shower unless you want to be scrubbing your body post color rinse. -You will get purple nails for the first few days until you are a couple washes into the color cycle. -There was a slight color transfer to my pillowcase on the first night. But after a second wash I had no problems. FYIs -It is a more blue based violet. So the fade out leans into a blue fade out. ... show more

This hair dye has a lovely color and it lasts long enough to still look good after several washes (I wash my hair twice a week). At first, after a few weeks, I was concerned it was fading into a funny gray color cause the light catching my hair wasn't looking purple but more black. I couldn't figure it out and just decided to dye my hair again. Well, when I was parting it apart to put new dye in it, the light caught my hair just right and I couldn't believe it, the part I thought was turning gray was actually my blonde showing through! I'm completely shocked. I dye my hair a lot but I have this really light natural blonde hair that will take any dye without bleaching BUT the dye doesn't really wash out, especially the dark colors. This is the first semi permanent dye I've ever used a dark color with that ACTUALLY washed out of my blonde hair. Now, this is the first time I've used this brand (I usually use colorista or schwarzkopf) so don't be spontaneous based on my review alone. I'm going to be honest, I saw a video of this stuff pop up in my feed when I was looking for a color to replace my platinum blonde peekaboo hair color. I instantly feel in love with the color and had to try it for myself. Yes, I fell in love and yes the color is as vibrant as what I was presented with. I selected the Aquamarine Blue from Insert Color Here and had it sit for a whole hour on my head. While applying it I enjoyed the scent that it gave and the idea that it helps to nourish and repair damaged hair. That was like a double win-win for me, going through previous lengths to make my hair blonde in the first place. I can assume that one jar of this color could potentially color the whole head, as I have only colored it blue once, and have half of the jar left. As for rinsing hair off in the shower to keep my hair clean, DO expect lots of color leaking, it just keeps going. The first few times you wash, the color in the hair still has excess dye so it has more tendency to fall and stain your fingers and back, which was my least favorite part to clean off :( . Though there was lots of tendency for the color to leak during showers, you can expect that almost any other permanent and colored hair paints. I definitely would reconsider getting this color once I am out of it and the other eye-catching colors I couldn't throw on my hair at once :D ... show more

I have darker hair and it’s not often I come across a dye that sticks to my hair well. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it turned out though. It had a nice deep color and it only took around 15 minutes of leaving it in before it was this vibrant. 10/10 would buy again.

If you havehair that's darker than chestnut brown, then I advise to bleach your hair first before using this. I was excited to try this, especially since I've always wanted to color my dark natural hair without using bleaching. Although I wasnt expecting a drastic change, I hoped some noticeable differences. That all changed once I got the product. When I received it, the color of the dye didn't match the vibrant aqua shade seen in the pictures. Instead of the vibrant metalic looking aqua, the dye looked like it was plain dark blue. Besides the difference in color, I was also disappointed at how long it took to see a difference. It took 2 applications for my hair to go from black to a some what deep navy blue. I let the dye set for at least 30 min for the first application and about 1 and a half hrs for the 2nd just to see a difference. The product is better at dyeing my scalp and fingers than my own hair. From all the reviews from people with my hair color not having to use bleach, I was genuinely hoping for a subtle yet distinct shimmering aqua tint. I was expecting to get a product that it would at least look vibrant in the container if it didn't work for my hair. I wasn't expecting a lot, but I was expecting at least for the paste to look like the picture when I bought it. In the future, clearer representation of the actual product shades in the marketing material would be greatly appreciated by customers like me who are eager to experiment with a splash of color without resorting to bleaching. Overall, a bit disappointed with the outcome but appreciative of the effort to create a non-bleaching option. ... show more
