I’ve had very bad experiences with inexpensive bookshelves before, so I was very skeptical about this product at first. Boy have I been pleasantly surprised! This shelf is so sturdy! I’d love to show you a nice and decluttered bookshelf picture now that I’ve purchased more pieces from this set, but I think the attached photo proves my point even better. Do you see how much junk I’ve loaded onto this bookshelf?! I don’t know what its weight capacity is supposed to be, but I now officially swear by the Convenience Concepts Oxford set. I feel like this part goes without saying, but I also love the beautiful X etagere design! I can happily report that the snarky “you get what you pay for” adage does not apply here!

We really like the look of this 5-tier bookcase, and we love the sea foam color. But let's talk assembly: The 'easy' directions weren't necessarily as easy as the company made it out to be. Yes, they showed where each screw/bolt/dowel was to go, but the pictures/words are VERY unclear as to the position of some of the shelf pieces. After disassembling certain sections of the 5-tier case a time or two, we finally managed to get it put together properly. It does look nice and will go well with our decor scheme. HOWEVER, after having the shelf/case in our home for two days, the strong chemical smell still has not dissipated and gives everyone in the home a roaring headache. We are hopeful that the smell will go away soon. If we would have known how severe the chemicals in this unit would reek, we never would have purchased it to begin with no matter how perfect it is for our space. (Whatever happened to the days of furniture being made out of wood instead of all of this man-made, chemically guar??) So, for looks and sturdiness, we give this a solid 5-star rating. Assembly should get a 3 1/2 star rating. Odor of the product, a negative 1 star rating, or lower. If the chemical smell dissipates, I'll update my review. If not, this review will stand and you can take it as read here. UPDATE: A month later, the chemical smells had not only NOT fully dissipated, but had actually accumulated within our HVAC system. We continued to experience burning throat, irritated sinuses and headaches. Sadly, we had to remove the shelves (all four matching shelves!!) from our home and sat them at the curb for the garbage man to haul away. We really liked the look of these shelves, but the chemicals used in the manufacturing of them was overpowering and causing quality of life issues. If you don't have chemical sensitivities, you'll probably enjoy having these in your home. But if you do have sensitivities, I would avoid these.

Product is as advertised, but you get what you pay for. Assembly requires you are knowledgeable about, tools, and read very small writing instructions. Product has a very strong chemical smell, it was packaged really well. All assembly scews, nuts, bolts where in box. Did Not have cover grommets to cover holes. So bright silver screws show. I wanted to cancel order two days before item was sent but amazon made it impossible, the only option I had was to choose return item at my cost and shipping costs would be half the cost of item. Not bad book case but not one your going have showing. Do not recommend unless it's for donation.

I could smell it before I even opened the box! It smells like it was painted with cheap spray paint. There are spots where the finish is chipped that have been covered up with black marker, and other spots that are white where the paint missed. It is VERY difficult to put together, and I have put together a lot of Ikea furniture without the aggravation this has caused. I had to take pieces apart three times just on the first portion. I am going to disassemble what little I did get together and return it. Plus the smell worries me and I do not want it in my house making me sick.

Finished product looks okay. WORST directions ever! The directions combine multiple steps into one and it is not clear what order things need to go in or which way the boards face. Had to take apart and redo things a few times. One shelf came damaged. We called customer service for the company (not Amazon) and they promptly shipped a replacement part which was awesome and made life easier (didn't need to box up an unpacked kit). The outter white painted part it sold and seems that it won't scratch too easily. However, the inner material seems weak and not as solid. Two places started to split (I had a seven year old screwing the screws so it was not her brute force causing the problem). Not completely unhappy. Reasonable price for what we got.

First, I’ll think this book shelf will look great once I can finish the assembly. And it seems very sturdy. No the that I am expert at putting things together. I had to give up for the evening in frustration due to the last three screws. If you don’t have a short handle Phillip’s head screwdriver, those last three screws are well nigh impossible in the back due to the back bracket. I’ll finish tomorrow when my patience renews. If you are not good at assembly, do not purchase this book shelf.

Beautiful for the price once it's finally together. I purchased 2 units. The instructions are not the best, but that didn't bother me. I just figured it out - it's not rocket science. It's screws, cam bolts, and shelves. Handheld screwdriver was all I needed. I put on Father of the Bride and had both of them together before the movie was over, with my 2 year old "helping" me. I would advise putting it together on carpet or a blanket so the corners or facing of the unit doesn't get damaged while flipping it and putting it together. I'm purchasing more for another room.
