  • The PetCove PurrTex Max Self Cleaning litter box is FANTASTIC!
This is a great, and importantly safe self-cleaning litter box. There are a few design modifications I would like to see, but overall I am very pleased with it. My cats did not use it for awhile, but after following suggestions to introduce my 4 cats to it after 2 weeks they seem to all using it somewhat. I am not sure who but it is being used 3-4 times a day now and urine and poop both appearing. The positives: 1. The litter box is big and roomy enough for my very large cats. Roly, in the photos, weighs 16 lbs. You can see he has plenty of room to sit, turn around and do his business. 2.The litter box cleaning cycle is very quiet. 3.This does an excellent job of emptying and the receptacle for used litter is very well designed. It is a drawer behind the ramp which opens and closes easily and shaped simply for ease of litter waste bag placement and cleaning. 4. The filter is fantastic for for control! I smell nothing! 5. There are a number of extra features that are great: there is a litter leveling command which rocks the litter back and forth to level it. This can be used after adding litter or chosen as an option during the cleaning cycle. It can be added as a component of auto cleaning to level the litter a variable time you choose before litter box normal cleaning cycle begins. This allows the poop to be buried and the litter to fully clump. You determine time intervals, for example how long after a cat exits to begin the cycle, and how long the box will wait if there are multiple uses before the cleaning cycle. 6.The box will indicate when the litter box disposal box is full and needs to be emptied 7. This automatic litter box is very safe! My partner had heard horror stories about cats crushed in them and seriously injured or killed. The safety features work excellently: there are 5 infrared sensors to sense cat entrance and exit. As you can see in the video below me just waving my hand in front of one of the sensors stops the movement immediately. I also tested it with a stuffed animal which weighed almost nothing. When placed in the entrance after it began a cleaning cycle it too stopped the litter box movement immediately. I think most of the cats that were injured or killed in other boxes were too small to be using an auto cleaning litter box. Right on the front, and mentioned a number of times only cats > 3.3 lbs should have access to the litter box. 8. If you are overly-concerned you can always operate the litter box manually to begin the cleaning cycle. instead of automatically. You would manually begin the cleaning cycle on demand . After doing my research, I believe this litter box is very safe and I use it on auto mode. 9. THE APP IS GREAT! it tells you when the litter tray is full, the filter needs to be chanced and every time it was used that day and cleaned! 10. The set up instructions and all info are very good. All the setting options are explained very well. 11. The controls on the box are intuitive, and the options explained well and make sense even if you do not use the App What I would change: 1. The ramp does not attach in anyway to the main body of the litter box. One of my cats stepped on it and it slid and scared him. There should be some kind of latch on the outside of the litter tray for the ramp to attach to. 2. The box is hard to move, though taking it apart like you are going to clean it allows you to move it easier, and it’s simple to empty all the litter from the box to make it better to move. The side panels, which are mostly decorative, pop off too easily when trying to move it. I strongly recommend emptying all the litter to move it 3. The bags are very expensive but I am experimenting with regular kitchen trash can bags. It looks like they should work. 4. I would include a history of box use instead of just current day. ... show more

  • WORST LITTER BOX! EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE
If I could give this negative stars I would. We have 3 cats, after extensive research I decided to give this one a try. We went away for the weekend, hopeful we didn’t have to worry about our cats having a clean box while we were away. Wrong!! We were gone less than 24hrs when I checked in on the box (not even a notification of any kind, which is also ridiculous) and realized the bin was “full” and the clean cycle cancelled. Thankfully we were able to have someone go to our house and check in on it… the box was locked in a closed position with the bin not even a quarter of the way full. The person changed out the bag and restarted the litter box. She checked in on it the following day and it seemed to be doing great, bin was nowhere near full and the app showed it in a good status. 15 min after she left, the app showed the bin was full, we didn’t check the app til hours after she’d been there, because why should I have to keep checking it? Doesn’t that completely defeat the purpose of spending hundreds of dollars in a litter box that cleans itself???? Needless to say, when I checked at midnight the bin was showing it was full as of 8:45, meaning the litter box was closed yet again and no way for me to get it back open. So we had to come home way ahead of schedule and walked in to find our bathroom covered in pee and poop because our poor babies had no access to their litterbox. If I could make a recommendation; it would be that Amazon not even offer this piece of crap. If I was a crappy person I’d return it to the company in its exact state. My conscience however will not let me do so since it’s going back to Amazon and it’s not their fault! I would NEVER EVER even recommend to anyone that they even for a moment consider this as an option. It is completely unreliable and does not function as it should. ... show more

  • An Honest Review 3 Months In
BLUF: At this price point ($300 in October 2025), Purrtek Max is a decent automatic litter box for large cats and worth its few quirks. This was my second (and mostly successful) attempt at adding an automatic litterbox to our house after my cats did NOT accept a big-name automatic litterbox 3 years ago. I chose it because it is larger/more open than other models and hoped for that reason my cats would accept it. 2 out 3 now use it regularly, so I call it a win. I also thought that this price point was less of a commitment than some other big names out there. Setup was fairly straightforward and simple through the app. The hardest and most frustrating part of assembly was getting the plastic strainer "seated" correctly inside the box. The key is to bow the strainer (with more tension than you'd think necessary) to get it seated properly. The app is straightforward and easy to set up, but unless I'm missing something, it doesn't seem to send notifications for usage, errors, notices that the reservoir is full, or anything else. To state the obvious, this box is large. My 20lb big boy has plenty of room. Keep in mind that the ramp/litter trap adds about 12 inches to the dimensions, so, make sure you have the space for this. This box is also sensitive to over-filling litter, and the fill line is slightly out of alignment with how the litter settles in the bottom after a clean cycle- making it easy to over-do it when you add litter. So, be careful about over-filling before, say, going on vacation for two weeks..... unless troubleshooting a new device over the phone with your cat sitter sounds relaxing to you :). In terms of functionality, it seems to do a really solid job of its primary purpose- auto-cleaning your litterbox. I like that you can customize the time-delay on the cleaning (or re-delay if another entry is detected within a certain amount of time). I use a 30 minute delay so the clumps can fully harden- helps with keeping things clean(er). This box does a good job of keeping smells locked away in the reservoir, although I do recommend changing the bags at least weekly- even in a single cat household. You will get roped into buying Petcove's custom-fit waste drawer bags and deodorizer cartridges. Their sale prices are reasonable. I haven't tried using regular plastic trash bags, but I'm sure you could get away with alternatives if you're careful to ensure complete coverage of the waste drawer. The multiple infrared sensors for safety work GREAT. I've watched my cats lean close to the box in curiosity during the cleaning cycle and it stops as soon as it detects motion near the entryway. I have no concerns at all about safety. We're a three-cat household- An 8-month old kitten and two older adults. The younger cat took to it right away without any coaching. The two older adults used it once the first night and then refused to use it again for another 60 days. I was pretty frustrated at first, as I thought I had learned from the mistakes about introducing an automatic litter box the first time (litter transfer, manual scooping at first, litter attractant, reduce cleaning of other boxes, etc.). I reached out to support, who did send over a checklist of suggestions. I had done most of them already, but stuck with it and eventually persevered 2 months later. After removing access to the other downstairs litter box in a list-ditch moment of frustration, one of the older adults started using it regularly and I just today saw the second adult use it! I know they warn you to not remove access to other boxes too early (they still had access to a regular litter box upstairs), but removing the third box is what did the trick for our stubborn two. My biggest piece of advice is to be patient PROs: Large- great for big cats and multi cat households. My older cats seem to like the open nature of the front. Quiet- this has to be one of the quietest devices out there. It is WAY quieter than a previous brand name box I tried. Honestly, the sound of the litter rotating in the drum is louder than the device itself. This played a big part in getting my two older cats comfortable around the device once I started the clean cycles. Relatively easy to spot clean with wipes and remove the drum for deep cleaning. Just make sure the drum is fully seated in the gear when you reassemble after deep cleaning. Responsive customer service if you have any issues or need advice. Quirks and Cons: Ramp/litter trap doesn't connect or attach to the front of the box in any way. The magnetic covers that go over the drum can be difficult to finagle and you have to make sure they are seated correctly or it won't run. This is only really a challenge during assembly and deep cleaning. App doesn't seem to send notifications of any kind- including notices about errors The waste drawer is large but isn't especially effective at dispersing the clumps throughout the reservoir. You'll have to level it after 3-ish days in a multi-cat household if you don't want to change bags early. If you aren't keeping tabs on this, the box will stop rotation when it detects its full (remaining in upside down/mid-cycle state) until you change the bag or level the waste in the drawer. Annoyingly, you won't know this until you walk by and see the drum is stuck upside down. See last comment about lack of app notifications :/ . Sensitive to over-filling- be careful. I almost threw this litterbox out in a fit of rage one night until I realized all the problems I was experiencing were related to too much weight in the drum! If you opt to use the keypad on the front of the box, beware that the Clean button is right next to the dump litter button! You'll only make that mistake once :) The Petcove app, while basically functional, looks nothing like the screenshot you see in the picture and doesn't include cat weight information that appears in the app screenshot. -- All-in-all, this is a good mid-tier automatic litter- especially if you have large cats, multiple cats, or are concerned about your cats adopting an automatic litter box due to loud sounds and/or enclosed spaces. You'd be hard-pressed to do better at this price point. ... show more

  • Fastest/simplest way to switch the full bag of waste w/a new one.
I bought 2 Self Cleaning Litter Box with Auto clean for Multiple Cats - Automatic Cat Litter Box Self-Cleaning - Covered Odor Removal with APP Control - Compatible On All WiFi - Electric Robot Dec 2024. Loved them, while cleaning one of them I broke the latches that hold the cover for the litter bag area. Since there are not parts avail to fix it and I didn’t want to send the whole unit back (which Petcove had no problem doing) for a new one. I saw the new version w/an open top for big cats. Since 2 of my 3 are big cats I decided to try the PurrTek max. I so love the drawer below in front that you just pull it out (the unit will close so it can’t be used when the drawer is too full). Just cinch up the bag lift it out and replace w/a new bag push in the drawer. So much easier having the drawer in front. So I bought one on Petcove site w/a sale. Then I wanted to replace my other one. Amazon had a sale. I can’t say how much I love this unit. The max is so much quicker easier to change the bag. Takes less than 3 min. Can’t beat that. I hate cleaning the cat box. Also a big plus is I have 3 indoor only cats. It has a setting to cover poop when you have a rude cat like my old cat that poops and walks out. No door latches for me to break. I’m a nurse/old & almost 59, I work 13+hr days. I’m exhausted when my week is done. Best litter box ever. All you need to do is check the litter amt daily. If it is low, add little. This is the first litter box that urine clumps don’t stick to the pan. Easy clean, best I’ve ever used. Highly recommend this litter box, if you have the room. It is a awesome! ... show more

Terrible, and DANGEROUS. The sensors did NOT work and this Can Guillotine Your Cat. I deemed it very unsafe for our Fur Babies, so we returned it and got something safer.

  • Great product!!!
We purchased other litter systems from PetCove before, and had one that was defective. Their customer service was outstanding at replacing it without question. So when it was time to upgrade after getting additional kitties, we really wanted to stay with PetCove. The cats LOVE the open design of this system. Pros 1. The open design makes it super easy to clean 2. This system is really quiet 3. The bottom tray is so much better than the top fit bag that the enclosed design used. 4. I love that the step helps catch litter from their feet and some that might spill out when the cats dig 5. The app is excellent. You get great data on use, and are able to run and troubleshoot the box Items of note (not all cons - but worth knowing) 1. Regular 13 gallon garbage bags (especially those made to “flex”) work better than the PetCove ones. Not only are they cheaper, but they also hold in the odor better. 2. If the back of the litter box is too close to the wall, the sensor will think it detects that a cat is approaching. If the machine is cleaning, it will pause and the cats will be unable to use it until you fix it. ... show more

  • Ehh
Here are my observations: *Packaging:* Packaging was a little dinged up, but that’s the shipping company’s fault, not yours. Please STOP using styrofoam. It’s so bad for the environment and it cannot be broken down. Be more ethical in your packaging. *Instructions/Quick Start Guide:* The quick start guide was extremely frustrating because it didn’t have instructions on how to install the litter sifter- I spent a considerable amount of time working on getting it installed, and I still don’t know if it was installed correctly. They also don’t explain why I was sent a second litter sifter that is completely different from the first one. Also, the instructions also said not to use pine or non-clay-based litter, but your Amazon listing and the website said it can use any litter. *Pricing and Features:* For the retail price, ($614.99 your website), I would expect to have a feature to weigh my cat at the very least. Given that other brands competitive with your pricing have that option, it feels like a huge, missed opportunity. The pricing on this product is not at all competitive in the industry- especially for the lack of features it has. (The features it does have are pretty much standard in any self-cleaning litter box). (Sifting cat litter, having a waste receptacle, etc). The upper roller covers do not sit flush with the product. Even though I put them on with the magnets, they need to be bent in more to have a snug fit.. they’re very loose. The deodorizer is also very poor at controlling the odors, and may have worked better if it were scented. Overall, for the price and the features, I’m not very impressed with the litter box. There are other brands for around the same price that have more features. ... show more
