Very ambivalent about getting an "automatic" litter box mainly because my cats might not use or be comfortable with. First I ordered another brand but it showed up broken, missing parts etc and the company never even reached out to show any concern. So I looked at similar ones and found FurryTail! The box showed up intact. When I opened all was solid and packed well. Comes with months worth of bags AND a useful/funny litter mat which I thought might be useless but is actually very helpful! Super easy to set up! You don't have all day so I'll get to it: • Super easy to set up. Remove from box, read instructions which are VERY clear (remove ALL packing foam, plastic wrap, tape and padding - the padding is between the base and the round unit that needs to rotate, *make sure to remove tape at back of unit where the "arm" (the piece that locks the alignment of the box and base "gear"), set litterbox back onto base, snap the "arm" back in place, plug in. Install the collection bag by pressing the button to open the compartment, pull off the magnetic securing "ring", poke the "open" end of one of the bags provided through the inside of the ring, fold down to yellow line on bag, fit ring back on guides (with magnet facing towards the box), close lid and add litter. • LITTER: In my experience, a traditional CLUMPING litter seems to work best. Right now I am using Arm & Hammer multi cat clumping litter and it works great! • SMELL: Wow! If I'd only known sooner not only how well this would Contain the smell) • TIME: SOOOOO much time saved! I used to scoop the box 2 times a day and NOW it all collects in the bag without me lifting a finger and I can toss 1 - 2 times a week. • QUIET! - I threw some waste from the old box into the new so they would "know"...ya know? Later I went to see if they had used it...I saw no waste...I checked the waste compartment and sure enough...clumps n lumps! IN the BAG, CONTAINED and NOT smelling! • CATS: They were cat like...had a look, said "whatever", kept using old box...I let that one run out of litter and then they HAD to use the new one. Was my worried my big cat wouldn't like it/fit or use but has done so with no problem. ONE of the cats though is obsessed with the new box. • SAFETY (obsession contd.): The obsessive one HAS to investigate by sticking it's paw in "mid-turn" (when the box is rotating to empty) - when the cat does this it STOPS and does not move again til it senses all is clear. This cat is getting less curious and not pulling out clumps as often not so that "problem" (the only so far) is resolving itself. • APP: There is an app for those who want to really get into their cats movements. I DO NOT use it. The box works GREAT without the app - just install bag, litter, plug in and you're off...you don't get info/updates but you get a clean box, more time for other things and happy cats. *Note: I LOVE A&H "Hardball" which is the best litter I have ever used BUT it TRACKS like Crazy because it's little tiny bits of sand-like material which is why I switched to the more traditional. TIP: * If you have trouble with cats peeing on stuff, make sure you have CLEAN box(s) that are easy to get to and NOT near food or their or your bed. Cats will often pee/poop on clothes and other things on floor or on your bed when they are either sick (that's their way of telling you) or when their Box is filthy. I used to clean my box twice a day, NOW I can pull the bag out 1-2 times a week and toss.

Wonderful upgrade!!! I had an auto box id been using for about a year which worked pretty well, but after an accident and subsequent surgery to repair a broken femur, I really struggled with design as the waste bin was located on the bottom of the unit, basically the floor, and it also would frequently get stuck halfway through the clean rotation due to the motion sensors and need to be manually reset, sometimes requiring me to lift the drum and turn it to get it back on track. I am happy to report the furrytail has eliminated these issues for me. The waste bin location on the top of the unit is very easy to access, especially for anyone who may have some mobility issues. I havent had any issues with the unit stopping or getting stuck mid-rotation (yet) so fingers crossed this remains. In addition, the waste receptacle is sealed off nicely which greatly reduces the smell as opposed to the old unit which reqlly just had an open hole Not having the large opening on the bottom is actually quite safer. Even though the old unit stopped turning when the cat approached, there was still a chance she could have crawled into the opening and made a mess when it was stuck open. Luckily this never happened, but with the furrytail the small opening on the side would prevent this hypothetical from ever happening. It's super duper quiet. I can hear my cat scratching up a storm, but honestly the rotation barely makes any noise at all The unit is large... There is a lot of space on the inside, more than many other brands I considered .... The opening is also low enough to the ground it should work for kittens or elderly even without a step which is just one more thing to vacuum and sweep around so ... Yay! If you are trying to decide which model to buy, this one is great. I kinda wish I had purchased this one to begin with instead of the cheaper model... Though to be honest if I hadn't broken my leg, I probably would not have replaced the other model until it stopped working because it was also a big step up from hand scooping lol and it's out in storage as a back up or for a friend a need

This is honestly one of the best purchases I have ever made. My cat was well potty trained but once we moved into a new house and both me and my husband working full time we didn't keep his litter box as clean as we should have. And eventually he started pissing in our kids closets, on the couches. I honestly didn't know what to do because we've had him for 10 years and suddenly it seemed like it was impossible. Having to clean the litter multiple times a day was just not realistic for us. And I wasn't going to give him away. I saw many self cleaning litter boxes, but the reason I chose this was because 1. the look and color really matched with my living space that I was going to put it in, and 2. because a lot of reviews vs other products said this was easy to clean. Now, I do like that you just fill it up and scrub and empty, but honestly it's not the most fun to clean. Because there are these corners and hard to get spots that aren't so easy, and it's a bit annoying having to reach down into the bin. But I can't say if it's any better or worse than other self cleaning boxes because this is the only one I have ever bought. However, I changed my thoughts on this once I purchase electric scrubbers that have a long handle (the same ones you can use to clean toilets) . It made a HUGE difference in cleaning it, and now it really is the easiest thing to clean. Now speaking on the machine itself, it has literally been life changing for both my family and my cat. Niko will not go anywhere else except this litter box. He took to it right away, and since I have it set to clean every 8 minutes, he's a happy cat with a clean litter for every use. And as for us, we clean the litter a lot less now and our house no longer has that awful "cat" smell. We all collectively agree how life changing this purchase was. I also like the app that comes with it. I am now familiar with how often he uses the litter, I actually use this for when I will do a deep clean(so he's not looking around for somewhere else to go while I clean it). The only thing that could be improved on with the app is the "waste bin level reminder". It seems like a really great idea to alert us when the waste bag is full. But it has been incorrect. I was waiting for the waste bin to be 100% before changing the bag, because I thought that was the point. but one day the house started smelling awful again so I checked the litter and the waste bin and saw that it was so overfilled that nothing more would get into the bag. When I checked the app "waste bin level" it was at 70%. So it was hugely overfilled at 70%. So next time I checked at 58% and it was pretty full but way easier to take out, and no deep cleaning needed after replacing the bag this time. I think my sweet spot is 50%. I am not sure if this has to do with how large your cats poop is, and how after they go. Maybe it varies, I am not sure. But I do recommend for anyone who is buying this and will make use of that app(which you totally should !) to check the waste bin every 10% to know where your full capacity is. Even with that one thing to be improved on, I still give this a 5/5.

I’ve had this litter box for about 7-8 months. The negative reviews you see are accurate and reflect my experience. I’m a multi-cat household. No more than three cats. When I first got this litter box the main reason I got it is because it said it was compatible with tofu litter. So I used tofu litter but it kept dumping all litter in the litter tray into the waste basket. So there was no litter in the litter tray for the cats to use the bathroom. This resulted in the cats trying to get my attention by puking. Sometimes the litter did stay in the tray and sometimes it did not and I couldn’t track a clear pattern. I tried weighing it, keeping only a certain amount of litter in it which did nothing but cause me to add litter to it every morning and evening which defeats the purpose of an ease of use product. I tried smaller type of tofu litter and it did the same thing and the smaller type of tofu litter didn’t clump well so it made a crazy mess where there was then urine paste all over the inside of the drum. Somehow that urine paste got on the bottom of the drum so when it rotated the urine paste was smeared all over the outside of the drum. This was within the first few months of having the product. Nonstop frustration. I was trying to make it work because I lost income and didn’t want another random expense. I didn’t even use the item until 30 days after I got it because of life circumstances. The odor control was minimal to say the least. So imagine I’m working 12 hour days, have brain fog and trying to also troubleshoot why my entire apartment smells like poop why the litter is being dumped why im buying so much litter why I’m having to deep clean this every week so I myself don’t smell like poop etc. Also wondering how did the urine paste and poop get on the outside of the litter drum just like what am I doing wrong etc. Finally I decided to use a normal pet store litter which is not my favorite option. I used arm&hammer slide. It’s very heavy litter. So already annoying but the odor control gets better. I am still deep cleaning the litter box weekly. I notice that the inside of the litter box where the litter goes onto is made of a kind of rubber. So this rubber has some sort of weight under it so when it goes upside down it pushes the waste off of it. The rubber is somehow secured by being stuck to sides of the litter box. But not anymore. Now the rubber no longer meets the inside walls of the litter box flush and dirty litter pours into and under the rubber litter mat because the rubber mat is unsticking from the walls of the litter box and there are open pockets for the litter to fall into. Is there really a weight under the rubber or is it actually poop that’s gotten in there and been there a while? No way to know. This causes dirty litter to somehow fall onto the floor under the litter box and when the drum rotates there is waste that gets painted onto the outside of the litter drum. Which only happened a couple times but one time is too much. Seeing soiled litter under the litter box and behind it like literally pouring out of the machine tonight is why I’m here. Also when you press the “empty litter” button to replace the litter and do a deep clean it almost never fully dumps the litter. I put a new bag on the waste liner and there was still litter inside the drum. So I was using a vacuum to get all the litter pouring out of this contraption when it was time to deep clean. Which you want to think “wow smart cool washing it with water will now be easier.” Wrong. Ok great. So I’ve noticed there’s soiled litter dumping into the sides of the litter box so once you vacuum all the litter everywhere then take it to a bathtub to deep clean it with a shower hose litter starts dumping out of hidden crevices for …let’s just say a while. And then you wonder. How is this going to affect my shower drainage. So great. I was having an odor issue again I’m sure for all the reasons just mentioned here. So now I’m done deep cleaning this thing. Then I get a different arm&hammer litter that’s more lightweight called Hardball. It promises “20 day odor control.” On day three my entire apartment smelled like poop. I was like ok I just need to run the clean cycle replace the waste bag every day or so and add litter every other day.” I think well maybe this litter really sucks. That’s. Way too much work for an “automatic” litter box. I’ve now exceeded the amount of work I’d be doing scooping litter manually twice a day from a normal rectangle pan litter box that can be deep cleaned easily and effortlessly. So I go back to Slide litter thinking that’s the solution. I deep clean the litter box. Add the slide litter. I’m like ok. It doesn’t smell like poop. I’ve escaped the poop world. Wrong. Cat uses the litter box. Everything smells like poop. I run the clean cycle. Still smells like poop. I light some incense. I reflect on the last 7-8 months of relentless odors and nonstop cleaning and frankly full body exhaustion. Do I need pets? That’s not the question I want to be asking myself. “I need a normal litter pan”. The incense smell fades away. I realize. The size of this thing. It’s very large. It doesn’t fit into any kind of corner easily, it’s a centerpiece. Litter is always everywhere. I do have a litter mat. I placed the litter box facing underneath the whatever 9ft cat tree with a litter mat to try to mitigate the sheer amount of sand that exists in every space of my small apartment. If the loose sand sensation from the litter is near the litter box then it’s on the couch or in the bed and it’s probably not clean litter. I think about the amount of mental and physical labor I’ve poured into trying to make this work. I think about how much less sand sensation I experienced when I was using tofu litter. I decided to write a thorough review for this product. I’m buying a normal litter box and throwing this one way. My entire body feels good about this decision. It’s annoying that I thought making this work would be easy. Terrible design terrible quality no customer service just an absolute nightmare. They should call this litter box the Poop Smell Emitter.

Please scroll to bottom to see updated added: I really was excited about this litter box but have been having issue after issue with set up. I have had this for over a week now and still haven’t been able to complete set up for my cat. The only customer service available is via email and the response time is usually a couple days wait which is super frustrating when they give you a suggestion you have already tried. The instructions that come with it are very limited. My litter box will not connect to WiFi, I have tried following instructions in the manual, in addition to online videos. My unit doesn’t even try to find a signal. The light never flashes like it says it is supposed to, just says “done” with a check mark but never gives me a chance to connect to anything. I have tried factory reset, unplugging and replugging it back in, Google searches, nothing. I think I have a defective unit and this is extremely difficult to return due to the size/weight of the box. Very disappointed to say the least. Update June 19th, 2025: I am updating my review from 1 to 4 stars. I did eventually get my unit to function through the customer service support via email. I had to contact my internet provider to split my WiFi into 2 bandwidths and then follow the video instructions sent by customer service to my email to connect it. It took almost 3 weeks for set up, but now that it is working and my cat is using it I am very happy with it. Only issue now is my cat still manages to kick litter outside the box and occasionally pees outside it which dribbles down the side (she doesn’t squat low enough). I wish there was some sort of guard attachment to keep the litter better contained, but this issue might be specific to my cat. Overall happy with the purchase and this is a good budget option for a safe automatic litter box. Updated July 9th 2025, FurryTail customer service contacted me since my review and offered to send a baffle to prevent the litter being kicked out of the box. So far it works great. I am overall very satisfied with this litter box now and so is my cat!

I have 4 adult cats, ages 5 yrs to 13 years, weighing 9.1, 12.1, 13.7 and 21.7 pounds . One of my cats immediately took to FurryTail. The two cats I feared might not like this litter box - took to it first. I put some of the litter from the old box (without the poop or pee) into Furry. I left one of my two manual litter boxes down beside Furry for two to three weeks. After 2 weeks I picked up the manual litter box and all 4 migrated to the FurryTail. At first they were mesmerized and curious when FurryTail started to rotate and clean itself. I left the auto-clean timer at 10 minutes, which is the default setting. I found if I were to lessen the time, the pee clump doesn't set up and can stick to the drum and the yellow sifting screen. It took a while to connect the drum unit to wireless because I use 5G and this thing connects on 2G. I had to call the NetGear service, brand of my router, to help me connect everything on 2G. It took a while for us to get it to connect but with repeated punches of the buttons in the front of the cradle, we finally got it to take - and connect to wireless. You have to have your phone also on 2G for all items to connect and get on wireless. But the app is something else... in a good way. The app keeps great track of my cats and their bathroom habits, their weight, what time they go, the time they spend in the drum, etc. You'll learn more about your cats' bathroom habits that you thought you'd want to know...but I like it. Sometimes I have to reach in the drum with a litter scoop and knock the poop or pee loose that is clinging to the inside of the drum so it can be removed; then I hit manual clean on the app. Several of my cats go in head first, use the litter, then come out, turn around and go back in half way head first using their front feet to bury their "business". Furry registers that too - and you can tell because that cat shows up as using the box twice in a minute or less apart and the 2nd weight with only the front feet in registers as an unknown cat of lessor weight. Some of my cats use the box 4 times a day, some twice and the 20 pound cat uses it once a day. I do watch the app so that no one is constipated as I do not allow my cats outside and they get furballs preening themselves so much when they are kept inside. The cats seem to use Furry most often in the evening until midnight and then early the next morning. As I said earlier, my cats weigh from 9.1 lbs to 21.7 lbs. There is plenty of room for each of them. I empty the waste bag every other day. I started using grocery bags in place of the bags they supply but I found those bags often had leaks or tears and I'd have to tape over the tears - so I went back to buying bags on Amazon, However, if i run out of bags, I can always use a grocery bag if need be. I do NOT use the FurryTail bags. I have found a better size bag on Amazon (not so wide) and it fits the opening better. With the bag I use being narrower, not to much plastic has to be gathered up under the magnetic ring and I feel it is more secure without the extra gathered plastic. It is a white bag with a blue pull tab and I just bought a new supply of 80 for $20. There is absolutely no odor if you empty the bag when time. The unit is very very quiet. I cannot hear it unless I go to where it is. There is a downside, which so far I find is very inconvenient. When I take the drum off the cradle to thoroughly clean it (every 3 weeks) because of the sticking pee/poop to the insides of the drum. The poop/pee stick to the inside of the drum far worse than it stuck to a regular (non-automatic) litter box. There is one hole in which to put your arms, rag, and cleaner into the drum for cleaning (that is the big hole the cats go into on the front side). I cannot see the inside of the drum around the back side of the big hole - so I use a 6" mirror to see the inside of where the hole is. Inconvenient, but with enough soap, disinfectant spraying, and rubbing, the inside comes fairly clean. There are some corners and some screws in the drum that I wish were better placed so you could more easily get all the stuck litter off. I am not going to carry this drum outside and down my porch steps to clean it with a hose - and I am not going to put it in my bathtub and get litter down my drain pipes. Instead I take the drum off the cradle, place it on a 4' x 6' piece of plastic on the vinyl flooring and clean it there. In my way of cleaning, water can't be run thru the drum but I clean it with a spray cleaner and a rag. I do wish the inside of the drum and the rubbery part where the litter lays was a little more slippery so the wet litter wouldn't stick to it as much. The yellow screen's holes are a bit too large and nickel/dime size pieces of poop fall thru it and don't get into the waste bag, but that doesn't hurt anything. The inside of the drum and the yellow screen get nasty with poop/pee/litter smeared on them. I see most other automatic litter boxes have this same screen and there are complaints about this in their reviews as well. When I am done washing the drum, I put it back on the cradle and it seats itself and corrects the error message it gives with the drum off. You don't have to unplug the unit if you don't want to. I have back issues, so I am VERY grateful I only have to bend over a little bit to remove the trash (used poop/pee) bag, where as with many of these automatic litter boxes, you have to bend over to the floor or get on your knees, as the trash (used poop/pee) bags sit in a container directly under the drum on the floor. See attached photo which shows the door to the trash (poop/pee) bag. Seriously, other than not scooping smelly litter for 4 cats - the location of the poop bag is the BEST thing about this litter box. I do recommend FurryTail - and my cats are highly satisfied, as well. I have now had this 6 weeks and I am liking it more and more. I researched these automatic litter boxes for weeks and read almost every review about many of them. I really am happy I bought FurryTail and I would not buy any other model or brand. UPDATE: It is now a year plus later, October 26, 2025, and I am still as thrilled with this litter box as I was when I got it. My cats seem to really like this box and 3 of the 4 use it with no problem. I have a male cat that has ALWAYS peed OR sprayed outside the litter box, whether it is a manual box or this auto box. It's either a territorial or a security issue. I have had to put a 4' x 4' plastic tarp and dog pee pads on either side and in front of this box to contain the urine/spray. The cat is 11 yrs old and I have resigned myself to his wetting outside the box. He does do his #2 inside the box. I have even considered buying a 2nd box and put them side by side, but I think this one box is doing fine for the 4 cats. Before I bought it, my adult son was stationed in QATAR. I asked him via text if this was an unnecessary expenditure since I had already scooped 2 boxes for 4 cats for 8 years. He told me BUY IT, you deserve it! So I did - and I am sooo glad I did. I love this box and highly recommend it.

I’ve had this litter box for a few months now and it works ok for my one cat. It took about a month for my cat to get used to it. I put it right next to his regular litter box and cleaned the regular litter box less frequently until it was filthy and he transitioned to this new litter box. The pros: 1) don’t have to clean litter every day 2) I like the app, very user friendly and I can see his weight and how many times he uses the litter box 3) sensor is good such that any time he peaks his head in or tries to go inside while it’s cleaning, it stops. 4) odor free but I also have a mini air purifier next to it 5) it is aesthetic and quiet Cons: 1) lots of pee clumping on the bottom. I wish the bottom was a slippery material so there are no clumping issues. 2) even tho the waste bin says 50% full, I always get an error stating drum is stuck. When I look at the litter tray, 80% of it is litter and 20% of it is poop/pee. I always fill my clumping litter right below the line and it still wastes so much litter. A fix is to get one of those litter bags with holes to filter out the poo/pee from the litter and then put the litter back in but it’s a lot smellier. Another fix is to schedule 2 cleaning times. One at 11pm and 1 at 12pm so you don’t get as much litter in the litter bag. I’m also getting rid of the litter once a week so the drum wouldn’t get stuck. 3) when I pick up the drum, there is always litter once the base and I don’t know how it gets there.

We are a three cat household and have been battling with the hassle of litter boxes and tracking for years. I finally broke down and bought this unit and, WOW, I just wish I had gotten this a long time ago!!! The main reasons that I decided on this unit over others are the SIZE (I wanted something big enough to fit my 15 pound fluffy boy cat), The fact that it’s ENCLOSED (to minimize litter messes), the DRUM DESIGN (it’s not only safer, but critically the drum can be easily lifted and washed out with the hose for easier cleaning). I also noticed on other reviews that the APP for fluffy cat seems to be a lot better than some of the other brands. When this came in, it did not disappoint! It was easy to set up. The app works great. The weight monitoring is precise enough so that I can tell which cat is using the box, which is a great feature for health tracking. We use world’s best litter, which is a natural corn-based litter and small granules. That seems to be working just fine, and I haven’t had any issues so far with messes inside the box from the cleaning cycle. I do think it’s important to turn on the shake setting, which is a feature of the app and helps ensure that all of the waste is coated in litter so you don’t get smears on the inside walls of the drum during cleaning process. I set the automatic clean to occur 20 minutes after use to make sure enough time goes by for urine to properly clump. I’m also very surprised with how well my cats took to this. I was worried that especially our shy female cat would be afraid of it. But all three cats got in and used it within the first hour of setting it up and have been choosing this box over the others in the house since we set it up. Some litter does still end up outside the entrance to this box but it’s certainly a manageable amount and nothing that a mat can’t solve. I’d say the tracking is equal to if not less than what you would expect with any other box. Overall, well worth the money, and a must have for multicat households! Jury is still out on ease of cleaning manually and odor control, but I will update the review for those.
