If you’re having trouble connecting the charger to the app, one reason may be that the charger was used/tested and set up on another network before you got it. If you see the internet icon in the top right hand corner has a line through it, this would indicate that. To correct this, press and hold the A button for 10 seconds or until you see that icon change to the Internet icon with a little G under it. When you see this, you can try connecting to your 2.4 ghz network again. That should do it. I imagine this is a common issue if they are doing any kind of testing on the units before they send them out if they’re forgetting to clear the network before the package them. Or if it’s a repackaged preowned model, that could be the reason. Either way they should include these instructions in their trouble shooting tips to save themselves and their customers some headache. Customer service is responsive, app is pretty clean, and charger works well once connected.

So far so good. I like its simplicity and protection so strangers don't have access to use your charger without permission. Sage advice: Get it hardwired. It will save you frustration. There is a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) in the cable and an outlet. They could fight, and you will end up losing.

The “icapia” brand “Sapphire Level 2 EV Charger – Smart Home Charging Station | NEMA 14-50 Plug or Hardwire, with 25ft SAE J1772 Cable + Tesla Adapter | RFID & Wi-Fi App Control, LCD Screen | FCC & IP67 Certified” has quite a bit to offer for just $280. Earlier I apologized for requesting the NEMA 14-50 version but my garage has the awfully similar looking NEMA 14-30 outlet. The difference is significant charging-wise, 50A vs 30A, but not a big deal for me because I just charge overnight in the garage. However I now have a 14-50 / 14-30 adapter, so I can report additional results. The Icapia Sapphire Level 2 EV Charger with/without actually testing it is all good. The construction is excellent – in particular, the cables are massive, similar to Tesla super charger cables even though NEMA 14-50 maxes at roughly 9.6 kW. The max for J1772 is 19.2 kW, but you would need an 80A 240V circuit for this. So 9.6 kW is just fine in my opinion. The included Tesla/NCAS J1772 adapter is excellent, it is identical to my Tesla provided connector. A heavy duty mounting bracket is included with all necessary screws. I said (July 26, 2025) I will update this review if I am able to acquire a legal NEMA 14-30 to 14-50 adapter, which I did for this one (Aug 6, 2025). When the car is plugged in, the charger requests an RFID card (two are included), charging starts immediately when the card is waved over the station. I was unable to test the other connectivity options, but with what I did see, I expect all of the security options (WiFi, BlueTooth, and additional RFID) to work well. Unfortunately, I had an adapter/test setup problem. Unlike Tesla standard wall connectors, this EV charger did not detect that it was on a 30A circuit, it assumed a 50A circuit and so ran at the typical 40A draw. So I repeat my title “verify your plug” because you don’t want to have a fire in your house!

This icapia Sapphire 11.5 kW Level 2 EV Charger is designed for home charging, offering smart features and a 25ft cable. It comes with options for NEMA 14-50 plug-in or hardwired installation. I personally appreciate the great charging speed it delivers. At 11.5 kW, it gets my EV charged significantly faster than Level 1 options. The flexible installation options are also a plus; having both a plug-in and hardwire choice makes it adaptable to different garage setups. The build quality feels very solid and durable, with an IP67 waterproof and dustproof rating, which means it should handle outdoor conditions without issue. Its integrated display provides real-time charging status, which is handy. As for functionality, the smart features are great. I can use the mobile app (via Bluetooth and WiFi) to start/stop charging remotely and set schedules, which is very convenient for managing energy usage. It also includes safety features like a grounding fault sensor and an emergency stop button. The one thing I'd like to see improved is the initial ease of use concerning its smart features. The included user manual focuses heavily on physical installation but doesn't provide clear instructions on how to connect to WiFi or which app to download. This can make the smart setup a bit of a treasure hunt initially. Tips & Alt Uses: If you're encountering difficulty with the smart features setup, search online for the companion app name (often "Smart Life" or "Tuya Smart" for Lumary products) or contact their support directly for guidance. Utilize the RFID control cards for added security, especially if the charger is installed in a publicly accessible area, ensuring only authorized users can initiate charging. Was looking for a replacement for a Juicebox40 which had lost functionality since the company exited the US market. This one seemed to be reasonably price and it has proved to work well. One thing I like about it is that beside the app, you get useful information from the display on the charger whereas my Juicebox had no display at all. While I am using this as a 40 amp charger with the included plug, it is nice to know that if I needed faster charging I could hardwire it and run it at 48 amps as well. The 25 foot cable length is a great to have to get to the back right side of my car. While the water proof capability will be a plus for some, since I have it in my garage that really does not come into play. Very pleased with this charger.
