Description

Charge Point Home Flex is our newest, fastest and most advanced Level 2 home charger, charging up to 50 amps and adding up to 37 miles of driving range per hour of charging. Flex can be installed to charge upto 50 amps, allowing drivers to pick the speed that's right for them and their home’s electrical supply. Charge Point Home Flex is a Wi-Fi-enabled charging station and offers smart charging features using the Charge Point app, including the ability to set a charging schedule, get reminders to plug in, see all of your charging history in one place, connect with Alexa, and more. Flex is UL Listed for electrical safety, ENERGY STAR certified for efficiency and comes with a 3-year and 24/7 customer support. Charge Point Home Flex can be installed by any electrician, indoor or outdoor, to charge at 16A to 50A, and comes with a 23-foot charging cable and either a NEMA 14-50 or 6-50 plug. Plug-in installation with a NEMA 6-50 or 14-50 outlet requires circuits/breakers rated 40A or 50A. For other circuit ratings, the plug is easily removed for hardwired installation. Flex can be installed outdoors using either a hardwired installation or a weatherproof NEMA receptacle.

This EV charger, CHP50-Hardwire version, or for that matter I am sure the plug in versions as well, are very well packaged and thought-out products. It comes complete with the screws, a drill bit for the proper predrilling for their 1/4" a 2" hex head lag bolts, even a hardened 3/8" driver bit that fits a standard drill or you can use a hand ratchet tool, and the self adhesive decals for the circuit breaker amps rating as well as the decal for the charger amp ratings setting. The instructions for the installation are easy to follow and complete with good drawings for easy identification. The Apple IPhone App for the ChargePoint user software is very easy to follow and intuitive. While standing next to the charge with my Iphone 12 Pro it easily connected via Bluetooth and then as part of the installation it showed available WiFi networks and you select yours and then enter your WiFi password. That worked with no hiccups. When you plug the connector into your EV car the LED ring around the charger unit goes from Green to Blue indicating a charge connection is going on. The ChargePoint app can show by the minute or less how many KWH's have been used while charging and an estimate, based on your EV car selection during the account profile, of how many miles you have of new charge as it is charging as well the time and cost. When the charge is done you can see the total KWH's, Miles, the Cost of the charge, if you set up your profile of your Utility and/or put in the cost/KWH. It also shows the Time in hours and minutes for the charge to complete. I have not used any of the ChargePoint scheduling as of yet. I have just done one charge of my EV so far and was doing just a basic plug in and letting the EV car control the charge and its completion. ChargePoint has one of the largest mobile station networks and their Home Flex charger like the one that I am doing this review for is well sold and reviewed and accepted by many and listed of the EV manufactures that Approve their charger. Although this is pricier than Tesla's wall charger, my utility (Jersey Central Power and Light) was offering incentives both for installation and for charging rates with the ChargePoint Home Flex. (Check with your utility for similar incentives before purchasing a home charger). Electrician installed with no issues on a 60 Amp hardwired circuit so that I call pull a continuous 48 Amps. The ChargePoint J1772 connector works without issues using the NACS adapter from Tesla, and charges at the expected rate. The app has all of the features that I want...specifically: scheduled charging that you can set separately for both weekdays and weekends is key in order to get maximum flexibility with charging while still getting reduced rates. This, combined with setting the Tesla to stop charging at my preferred level (80%), lets me: 1) Come home 2) Plug in the charger That's it. The charger automatically starts charging at the time specified in the ChargePoint app...and then automatically turns off when either the max charge level is reached (set by my car), or when the "end time" is reached in the ChargePoint app...whatever comes first. Truly just plug it in and forget it, and I'm guaranteed to charge at the cheapest rates. Note that ChargePoint intends on offering a new cable with a native NACS (Tesla) connector some time by the end of 2023 so that the adapter will no longer be needed. We're supposed to be able to retro-fit this unit (HomeFlex) with the new cable for a currently undisclosed cost. Even without the new upcoming cable, using the adapter to charge the Tesla is easy...I keep one next to the charger. ... show more

This charger was one of the easiest "home improvement" projects ever. Nothing to be intimidated about, the product ships with everything you need except an inlet fitting on the electrical inlet, which of course depends on the type of conduit to which you are running it. I had a 70 foot underground cable to run which meant renting a trencher, but that isn't the charger's fault. All the connections are color coded and use connectors that are literally flip it up, put in the wire, flip it down, done. The app is a strong point, as it found the charger and connected it to my home wifi without jumping through hoops, and allowed me to easily select the maximum current for my install and even gave me labels for every conceivable setup. It passed inspection. It worked the first time I plugged it in. It stopped when the battery was full, and I was able to check progress on the app. It finished almost exactly at the time it predicted.
