In a nutshell - the umbrella is great. So glad we got it. We live on the Columbia River facing south/southwest across from a wildlife refuge, so we need some shade but I didn't want anything that would permanently block the view. Also, we're near the mouth of the famously windy Columbia Gorge, so any umbrella would have to be extra stable, even when closed (I've lost several tall, heavy potted plants). This umbrella hit every mark. 1. As you can see from the photos, when the umbrella is closed, it's out of view. 2. I can sit outside now and find shade any time of day by changing the angle of the umbrella. 3. My engineer husband laughed at me when I said we ought to move it to the side of the house to be safe when the big winds come. He said that the umbrella is going nowhere when closed. We had some 15 mph gusts the other day when I was sitting outside, and there was some minor movement at the top, but nothing to be concerned about. Assembly and operation: My son put it together on his own, pretty intuitively; however, he's 6'5". If you don't have the height, It would be pretty difficult without two people. Now that it's assembled, it's very easy for me to put up and down and change the angle. We got the moveable base because I wanted to be able to adjust the location to shade the table or the seating area. However, we filled it to the max with sand and water for maximum stability, so it's big and it's HEAVY. My son and husband can move it. I (a fit 135 lb, 5'5" woman) cannot. Customer service suggested we take some of the sand out and put a couple of sandbags on top instead. We'll do that before next season.

We purchased a beautiful turquoise 9x9 double-top patio umbrella to go over our Koi pond when the Florida sun is at its strongest. Since we have a very small deck, we purchased the steel deck mounting plate which holds the umbrella securely and provides so much more deck space. We could not be happier with our umbrella. The fabric is considerably heavier than previous umbrellas we have owned as is the metal frame . My husband is impressed with how strong the arms are and how they connect to the umbrella itself which is a different design. Between that and the double top, we are confident that the umbrella will hold up well in strong winds and actually, it has. It has been up for a while now and shows no signs of fading or deterioration. A few times, we were unable to put it down before a rainstorm. No problem. The wind just passed through the double top with very little rocking. Nothing like our previous umbrellas. Our only problem is a silly frog that has set up housing at the peak during the daytime and comes down at night to party with the other frogs. Now, on to the customer service which I would give a “10” to if II could. I asked many questions over time and was provided timely responses and suggestions. I’m sure that some of my questions were not too bright yet the responses were always polite, respectful and made me feel like a valued customer. I’m not sure of the logistics where the rep is located and time zone or what the work load was, but there would always be a response the very next morning if not that same day. I was disappointed that I was unable to locate the parasol cover in the same color as my umbrella, so true to fashion, my rep checked other warehouses, found the color and had it promptly shipped. If you are on the fence about purchasing a less expensive umbrella to save a few bucks, do yourself a favor and spend a little more as we did, on a nice quality Purple Leaf umbrella and experience great customer service.

I purchased this umbrella and the heavy duty stand three years ago. I am so impressed by the quality. We live on a barrier island on the gulf coast of Florida and generally leave it up almost all the time -- the only exceptions are very high winds and storms/hurricanes. It has held up amazingly to intense Florida heat, many unexpected high gusts of wind, monsoon rain, etc. The opening and closing mechanisms work easily and beautifully even after three years! I am also impressed that the turquoise blue canvas has very minimal fading (the photo that I have posted was taken today!) I also must commend the company on their customer service! We just recently lost a nut on our umbrella's extension arm. I contacted Purple Leaf customer service, sent them a picture of the part that we needed, and they sent us a new part, which fixed the problem immediately. My personal thanks to Tears, the customer service rep who assisted me. Tears was very professional and thorough in getting me the right part!!! I highly recommend this umbrella and the PurpleLeaf company!!! Couldn't be happier.

I bought this 9' square offset umbrella in turquoise blue PLUS the base. I ALSO bought the 10' round offset umbrella in turquoise blue PLUS the base. ALL from Purple Leaf. Yes- well made looking and very attractive. I spent a lot of money buying all these things. The square umbrella was placed onto my patio and the round umbrella onto my deck. I was hoping to have both umbrellas match in color but they did not. One was very much light in color than the other. Nice turquoise blue colors otherwise so I kept both. The bases, by the way, were very solid and nice looking. I have a lot of sun in the back so these will come in very handy. I already knew how to put these units together as I was replacing an old offset umbrella but I felt the instructions given could have been a little more explanatory. Also in the instructions, it mentions there being a foot pedal to hold the umbrella in place once you rotate it to a desired location. There is no foot pedal. Old instructions. As for the bases, I took my time and filled them with sand. There's 2 holes in the top of the bases to do this. Holes are not centered however so I used a blower in the holes to try and move the sand to all spots. It would have been better if a total of 4 holes were provided at the top for doing this chore to evenly spread the sand into it. So getting the sand to all parts was very hard. Besides, I plan on leaving these in the same location through out the winter. Just cover them up. One thing I did not like was that when I ordered these 2 umbrellas and the 2 bases, it would have been nice if an option was offered to buyers like me: In the umbrella boxes it also contains a set of metal base bars (for people who do not purchase the bases). These base bars are used to bolt the unit down to a deck, for example. It's useless for me, however, because I purchased the bases. I'm stuck with these base bars and yet, had to purchase them with the umbrellas. Purple Leaf should have offered the option of removing these and reducing the price if a person purchases the separate bases at the time of sale. The bases that I purchased, by the way, have the built in bars already installed, so ... but I think these umbrellas are all packed and boxed the same in the factory. But again, if you're purchasing the separate bases, then these other base bars contained in the box are useless. Waste of money. Umbrellas also come with a cover. It looks pretty nice. There are wheels under the base by the way-just on one side. Impossible to move unit once it's filled. Also- before trying to open the umbrella up, you have to look inside it as they used Styrofoam and tape to pack the prongs up. The instructions don't tell you to remove them before hand and you're trying to open the umbrella only to discover they're inside the umbrella so you have to try and reach in and up to cut them out. But nice umbrellas. NOT waterproof. The first thing written in the instructions tells you this. For the money I spent, I think it should have been waterproofed.

Purchased 2 of these for our new sun-drenched patio. Couldn't be happier. Quality throughout. Quick and easy to open and close. The included cover is breeze to put on and take off too. Have used in light winds with no problems. Very easy to use and the adjustable positioning keeps you in the shade all day without moving your chairs and tables around. And they look great too. We get many compliments. Was hesitant to spend this much money on an item I had no previous experience with, but these seem worth every penny. I chose to fill the bases with water (instead of sand), so I could reposition them, if needed, to find the perfect spot for them. So far, no leaks whatsoever. Speaking of bases, I believe you should get the largest recommended size for your umbrella if you live in an area prone to daily breezes and/or windy conditions. I was a little shocked at the large size of the bases, but that's where the stability comes from.

Our deck is on the south side of our house and gets full on sun from mid afternoon to early evening. This umbrella shades nearly the entire deck if properly positioned and angled. We are truly using our deck comfortably for the first summer since we purchased the home. It has been very sturdy even in 25mph wind gusts. Easy assembly and very easy to use. We recommend the WHEELED base! Even when fully weighted we are able to easily locate the umbrella using the wheeled base.
