  • Works great for bigger people
When it says it's for bigger people, it's for bigger people! I'm 6' 1" 240lbs (I lift weights) and it covered everything very well with lots of adjustment left. I wouldn't recommend it for people much smaller than me but it was nice to finally purchase something that actually had a lot of area coverage. The shoulder/elbow wrap worked great. My only suggestion is: Get it out of the freezer a good 40 minutes to maybe 1 hour before you use it. Here's why; because when it first comes out of the freezer the individual ice pockets are hard and don't spread out. So what I'm saying is you're better off putting it on after it has 1/2 melted so the ice pockets are softer/mushier and cover areas better. They'll also form to the body better if the whole unit is a little softer. If you don't want to spend the $ for one you can always make up those frozen slush bags instead. You use large sealed plastic bags and put a ratio of water and salt in them and "freeze" them but they never fully freeze. They stay more slushy and form to areas of the body really well too. But, I do recommend this shoulder ice wrap. It covers a large area as well as the elbow and is well constructed. Also, you can use it on other areas. After 12-15 minutes I'd take it off and wrap it around me knee for 10-15 minutes due to an MCL strain. Worked good for that too. Again, this size IS LARGE so if you're a smaller or thinner guy consider the smaller size ice/shoulder wrap. If you're 6' 200lbs or bigger then this one will cover your shoulder and elbow areas extremely well. I'm happy I purchased it to use during my baseball season to help with aches and pains. ... show more

  • Highly efficient icing for shoulder.
Bought it for my 14 year old grandson who pitches. Works great.

  • Just Like the Pros
It puts the ice right where you need it on the shoulder. I bought extra inserts so I always have one ready when I need it. I didn’t need it for my elbow so I detached that part and use it as a separate ice pack for my knees

  • Good ice pack system.
I ordered this via Pro Ice's Amazon store. It was filled promptly, shipped in great condition, and good customer service with my questions. The pack is good and by "larger athletes" they're not joking. I'm 6'2 and I think I'd like to have tried the standard model for comparison - this thing is a large pouch over my shoulder. However, that total coverage is very welcome for rotator cuff rehab. There's a catch though, the ice sheets (of which there are two - one large foldable for extra ice time - very nice! The other a single layer which works for either the shoulder or forearm too) is made up of cells, not one giant pack. They also freeze hard like ice cubes, not pliable. The space between cells could fold if a bit of effort was made but my past experience suggests to not try too much... it might crack the plastic. So, instead I give it five minutes out of the freezer to soften a bit THEN it can go into the pouch and conform better to my shoulder. Your mileage may vary but that's the experience I've gotten after a week of 3x daily use. The forearm sleeve is not removable - it's sewn to a permanent strap at the bottom of the shoulder pouch. It's not a big problem - it could just be worn as in the picture even without the ice pack in it or rolled up and secured to the shoulder patch with any bit of velcro you might care to use (not included). This thing is big and a bit bulky but, then again, I've found it gives me well over an hour of solid, cold in that wide area (front, top, side, and back of shoulder) so it's somewhat to be expected. A smaller, system would probably sacrifice coverage and cold-time. I've found that wearing a tshirt or my light running vest over it keeps the straps from getting snagged on anything (they attach pretty much anywhere on the shoulder pouch via velcro). One nagging point that I wish would be reconsidered in the design - the edge nearest the neck rides up a bit no matter how many ways I try to cinch it down with the two velcro straps. It's enough to dig under my chin/jaw or into my neck and be uncomfortable. This *may* be due to the extra-large size of this model but then again, I'm technically into the size range it suggests. So, I think a small half-circle cutout of the pouch and ice pack would alleviate this - or perhaps an additional strap somewhere to give more ability to pull it down and away from my neck. I can sit in this but it does sometimes cut into my neck and when the ice pack inside is hard... it's enough to hurt. I suppose I could trim a few ice cells out with a scissors and fix that issue myself. Overall, though, the relief I get from this is very welcome. I couldn't go outside and do yardwork wearing this as it's too bulky and range of motion is a bit reduced while wearing it. However, the 1 hour double-sheet ice pack or the half-hour single sheet (both are included) give me lots of multiple icing sessions in a day. The fact I can do regular things around the house (like laundry, dishes, preparing food) wearing this instead of having to sit with one hand holding a bag of ice on my shoulder make this product very, very worthwhile. I'm now able to rehab as per doctor's orders without the downtime of sitting around holding a regular ice pack. Would buy another if I had to (although this either-shoulder model is very sturdy) and I'd buy again from Pro Ice's Amazon store again, too. Very pleased. ... show more

  • Bulky, difficult to use.
It’s just awkward, doesn’t stay or sit right on the shoulder. Used it twice and they cold packs started to leak.

  • Good for this variety of icepack
The size is a major plus if you're looking to ice the entire shoulder area. This can cover the entire shoulder + trap + portions of the pec and lat. I'm 5' 10" and around 205# with a fairly athletic build. I have a smaller icepack carrier similar to this and *much* prefer this one. I cut the elbow area off of mine since I have no use for it and it was getting in the way. Making it removable would have been a much better design. The icepack included sucks - it's essentially a rigid sheet of ice cubes which means that it is impossible to get it to make contact with all points of the covered area. I'm toying with the idea of cutting it into smaller pieces or cutting notches into it so I can get it shaped to make contact with my body a little better. That said, you can fit two large gelpacks into the shoulder carrier easily, and one in the elbow area. A single gelpack would be useless, though. I already had 4 large rectangular gelpacks (12" x 10" or something like that) so I was good to go. You might consider this before buying *any* of these that use this variety of ice. All that said, I had shoulder surgery about a year and a half ago (torn labrum), developed some kind of tendonitis in both shoulders trying to get back to 100%, and am trying to get back to doing jiu jitsu full time. This does a very good job of helping me ice my shoulders so I can at least not lose even more ground. Honestly, I think the cost was absurd, but it's no more absurd than any of the other similar options, and less absurd then some others. Shipping was very prompt. ... show more
