I always have bad luck with combination safes, so I was looking for one with a digital combination when I ran across this one. Having the biometrics makes sense to me...why spend the time fiddling with the combo when your finger can do the job? Likewise, I wanted one my wife could open, should she ever need to get a gun, and she can't remember combos worth anything. So this one looked absolutely perfect. I read the reviews and most are pretty negative. However, I still jumped in, headfirst, and figured I'd give it a shot. With Prime shipping, it showed up in two days, delivered by a UPS driver who wasn't exactly thrilled with heaving the heavy box around (sorry bud!) The box itself was a bit beat up...after all, this is a pretty heavy safe, and it was moved by countless people from place to place. I was worried about the condition of the safe, as the reviews here note that's one of the major issues. Luckily, it's protected by two inches of foam on all sides and after unboxing, I found the safe to be in perfect shape. The only issue was the Barska emblem had fallen off, but was easy enough to replace (it has two Barska emblems, this was one that's above the fingerprint reader, not seen in the Amazon photos...and could be left off if the owner wanted to do so.) Anyway, I got it maneuvered into place on my own (it's not that heavy, thus requiring securing with bolts) and then went to open it in accordance with the instructions. And that's where I ran into issues. The instructions say to push the "wake up" button on the fingerprint reader, and then it will read any fingerprint, which will unlock the door. So I tried it. And tried it again. And again. And again. No luck. I started getting a little pissed, and finally sucked it up and called Barska's customer service (I'm a guy, we don't ask for directions, right???) I talked to a nice lady there who told me that the design of the safe had changed but the instructions hadn't been updated (brilliant!) She asked if I had the emergency access keys. Yes, I did. In the same bag is an allen wrench. Using that, you have to remove the lower Barska label and low and behold, that's where the emergency key access is (would have never guessed that in a million years and it's NOT in the instructions!) So, using the keys with the newly-uncovered lock, you can unlock and open the door. Once open, THEN you can change the combo. Super easy...but I couldn't have figured that out on my own! I registered all of my fingerprints and my wife's as well, so both of us can access the safe. I also turned off the loud beeps that the biometric lock makes as well. I went and used a couple four inch lag screws to secure it to the stud in the wall behind it and it seems just fine. Without the screws, not only is it pilferable, but it could easily fall on a kid if they were trying to open it...and even though it's not super heavy, that would be bad, so you have to bolt it to the wall or floor. Inside, if you have more than a couple guns, you'll probably be disappointed. I only have a couple each of pistols and rifles, but a good bit of ammo, and the shelves worked out for me. There's a pistol holder mounted to the door, but I don't know what kind of pistols they intended it for as just about all of mine (including my concealed carry ones) were too long in the grip and hit the top shelf. So I will probably take off the holder, especially since my guns fit fine on one shelf. Ammo stores nicely on the second shelf, and on the third, lower shelf, even more ammo fits. There are cut outs for rifles all around the inside of the safe, but unless they're really short (we're talking assault shotgun short) nothing will fit in there without removing the lower shelf. I only have a couple rifles/shotguns so they fit fine in the couple of cutouts that don't have a shelf blocking them. I also noted that my one rifle with a scope doesn't fit anywhere in the safe, and to actually secure it in place, I'd have to remove the scope. Since I don't plan on moving the safe, I just put the rifle in at an angle and considered it good at that...but to do it properly, I would remove the scope and I don't particularly wish to do that. Overall though, I wasn't really surprised about the safe at all after reading the reviews here before buying it, thus my five stars. I LOVE the biometric lock on it, and I knew it was going to be a lightweight safe (I don't think it has a fire rating at all, so don't store your family heirlooms in it...) I also knew that the insides, though claiming to be able to fit a decent number of rifles, really weren't as workable as they are designed to be (and putting the lower shelf right in the middle of where most rifles go makes no sense at all!) However, since I only have a handful of firearms, they fit fine in here and provide a place to store my ammo securely as well. My primary reason for buying it was to prevent my kids from getting into my guns, and it works perfectly for that. It would also give most thieves a run for their money trying to remove it as well. It's not a fire safe, but I didn't buy it for that. I give it five stars because it fits what I need it for, and I'm very happy with it. I wish they'd update their instructions (it's one page...how hard would it be to make new copies? Really??) and so long as you're not expecting to store a large collection of firearms or expect it to protect your guns for two hours of fire or flooding, I really think you'll be happy with it.

Read the other posts on quality control. Yes, Barska still has some issues. The front of the safe had scuffs in the paint and the back had areas where the paint was scraped off. Metal was not dented so it was really just cosmetic. Shipping box was undamaged so damage was from the factory. Door does come locked but you need to test the backup entry key anyway, so not a big deal. I got the door opened and programed in less than 2 mins. Easy. The shelfs were as others complained. One was not attached, screws and nuts not secured and loose in the bottom. No stripped screws, just terrible workmanship. Also, one shelf had miss aligned holes drilled for the screws, like 1/4 in at least off. Explains why the screws were loose, they didn't even try once the assembler noticed the error. He just threw them in. Got a drill and fixed it just minutes, but for the price shouldn't be required. Biometrics seems to work well and that is what you are paying for.

I bought the 12 position gun safe and the size is perfect for my small room and doesn't take up much space. You won't fit 12 guns in it though. Like with any gun safe you might be able to fit half of what it's advertised but it's a great safe. Very quick to access and the biometric system works great and quick. The deadbolts are also really nice and I really like how many it has. I have a youth .22 caliber rifle with a scope, 18 1/2" pump shotgun, 20" bolt action .410 shotgun and at one point a marlin model 336 with a scope and a 22 caliber revolver all in it without the lower shelf. Also I have 2 other pistols in the safe. I also have a few spare magazines and ammo in it along with a laser sight and a few tools for other things. It'll hold a bit for a small collection and would be reasonably quick if needed to access your home defense shotgun fast. When buying this you're not buying just an average safe. You're not even really buying the safe as much as you are buying the very fast biometric system. The interior is also fully carpeted which is really nice so nothing slides around or gets scratched up.

The safe is sort of exactly what I was searching for on paper, but in reality falls short of expectations. The size is perfect for what I needed, but it is made of very thin metal that most likely provides little realistic security other than from children. The shelving is movable to many different heights, but again is made of thin metal that fits few of the sold safe addons for additional functionality. The pistol rack on he door is only semi use-able, the other spot can accommodate most pistols, but the inner will hit the shelf/door if anything bigger than a pocket pistol is installed there. You can only use the side or rear long gun holders one at a time, no way to use both due to the size. I will say the biometrics for me have been flawless. I have 2 fingerprints programmed and it has not opened to this date for anything other than those 2 prints. I had to modify the floor/wall mounting points to secure it to my walls effectively and the door handle and lock hider seem pretty lose for being a new product. Would I buy again.....maybe, but it would need to be at half the cost I paid for this.

I bought this safe on sale around Christmas as a quick way securing my firearms other than my gun cabinet because my son is getting starting to learn how turn keys. Looking at its original cost I had significantly higher expectations than what I got. The picture showed multiple slots for rifle barrels on the back wall and the side so I anticipated being able to fit about 9-12 rifles in the safe. The safe is so small I could only fit about 5 basic rifles inside. There's no way you can have rifles on the back wall and side as there just isn't enough floor space. On top of that I had to remove the bottom shelf just to fit my ar with the stock collapsed all the way. After I fit my 5 rifles in I tried to put two pistols in the rack on the inside of the door, I started off with a full size 1911 and found out the door wouldn't even shut. So I went to a smaller Glock 23 (the compact size, but not sub compact). The door still wouldn't shut. I spun the compact Glock around and put it in backwards thinking that might make more room and the door started to close, until the slide hit the top interior shelf. I looked at lowering it but the holes are pre-drilled so I'll have to drill new holes in the door just to be able to move the rack out of the way of the shelves (which shouldn't be required on an already assembled safe). If I could give this safe a negative star I would. This safe is good for nothing other than hiding it in a closet and maybe storing a couple very basic rifles with no attachments.

I've been in the market for a gun safe for quite some time and this Barksa biometric rifle safe checked-off all of the boxes; price point, features, size, etc. Overall good reviews - however I was concerned about shipping damage as several others have posted and shared their experience. I finally pulled the trigger on it and just received it yesterday. Gotta say - I'm impressed... Large box was delivered by Amazon early in the am. Visual inspection of the box showed no major stress points. Opened the box and found the safe to be completely covered in styrofoam - see pic. The safe had no damage at all. I haven't permanently installed it using the provided concrete screws but will do so shortly. However, the biometric setup is quite straightforward and works well. It comes with a back-up key and back-up battery pack for emergency opening. Just need to remember where these items are stored for future reference. Inside the lining looks good - although I haven't tried moving any of the shelves. After situating my items don't need to. The only Con - It comes with a hand gun display bracket that's attached to the inside of the door which is meant for quick access. After moving re-positioning it several times and placing a hand gun it I could not get the door to close with a gun in the bracket. It kept interfering with a shelf. I didn't see the need to so I removed. it could be complete user error on my part - that I fully admit, but just hasn't worked out (for me)...No big deal. I have my eyes set on a shelf hand gun organizer anyway. So, overall - good purchase. Hope this helps..

I really like this safe. This is not a Fort Knox or Amsec, but it is a good safe. I had several criteria when I selected and purchased this safe and it met all of these requirements. I wanted something that would keep my kids safe, fit in my closet, hold a service rifle with a magazine, have additional storage shelves for ammunition and additional weapons, and be priced under $700. I have been watching this safe for several months on Amazon, the price on this dropped to $450; so I ordered it straight away. This safe was packaged well, and arrived undamaged two days after I ordered it. Set up was easy, I really appreciate the biometric function and will probably continue to purchase biometric safes from now on. That all being said, I am not under any illusions with regards to overall security of this unit. While I fully trust this unit will keep my children safe, I feel that a criminal could probably defeat this safe as the door and walls are rather thin. Overall I am very happy with my purchase. I would recommend Barska safes in general, and will look to Barska the next time I am in the market for a safe. I give it 5 our of 5 due to overall quality, functions and features at this price point.

I received my safe today and so my review is based on my experience so far. To start off, gun safes are traditionally very expensive. A quality safe of this size will run $400 and up for an electronic lock or combination unlock. Also a higher quality safe will most likely be fire rated and also weigh double this safe. I paid $338 for this safe. It comes with the biometric feature which was a selling point for me. In the event my wife has to open this safe, I do not want her to struggling with a combination or electronic lock. Pros: Biometric lock Good value Cons: Must scan multiple angles per each finger Rifle bumpers not adjustable Pistol rack can adjust up 1 level however you cannot close safe because pistol grip will hit shelf when in use. Summary: This is a safe that is probably worth $250 and comparing this on the market with others around that price will yield you similar results typically. The biometric feature makes this more valuable and the reason i chose to spend a little more on this. Safes around $250 are more like cabinets. I ordered knowing it wouldn't be heavy duty because of the weight but it superior in build to the stack on cabinets. Overall I am satisfied with my purchase so far because I ordered knowing this would not compete with a higher quality build safe. Tips: I purchased motion sensor lights and a dehumidifier immediately after ordering this safe. I highly recommend both of those purchases.
