No. Firm support between ceiling/eave and floor is mandatory for installation. Can the awning be used on windy days? Not recommended. This awning is only designed for light breeze up to level 2 wind. Please retract the awning fully on windy days, it’s only suitable for calm summer weather. Can one person finish installation alone? We recommend two-person installation. The product is bulky and needs lifting support, single person may struggle to prop it up steadily. Why fabric width is smaller than listed size? Listed full width includes mounting frame. Actual fabric is 2 inches narrower. Size marked for overall installation span, ensures normal fitting. Can this awning block rain for my back porch? The fabric features water-repellent coating, which works well for light rain. Please fully retract the awning during heavy rain or prolonged rainy weather.

Not hard but take your time and you will need another person to assist you for a bit. Material is water proof. And as another person suggested in a review I read which will help stabilize the poles and not come down during high winds. Use a pipe stabilizing clamp. Or I used a pole clamp $4 apiece so for $8 the awning poles are secured to house Nice product. Reduced heat and rain runs further away from the door ... show more

I have a unique area that needs some sort of sun cover for part of the day. I used to have an installed awning but it was a bit of a pain and the fabric started to get mossy. I ordered this hoping it would be easy to install and manage. This has been a DREAM! Ok, I won't lie, it took me (by myself) awhile to put it together, but I was so proud of myself when I did lol and it has not disappointed! I had to sort of rig it working with an eve and with the rotating ends, I was able to make it work and it's super sturdy!! ... show more

Pretty good quality, however, this fell over many times and eventually broke due to the high winds in my area. 20mph winds might be too much for this

Pretty easy to set up with the instructions. I was able to get this up by myself with a bit of strategy. Importantly, I was able to get this up on a small balcony about 3' x 6' , 4th floor. Had to put main parts together inside, then put together the 3 main peices on the balcony and secure it. It is possible. It seems very sturdy by the roof and floor. There is some wobble in the center due to the telescoping nature of the rods. Waiting to see if it's really water proof. Will update. Update: survived many wind and rain storms. it is waterproof. no issues so far ... show more

The quality of the fabric is decent, but you have to roll it onto the piece and very carefully or it will be off kilter. The pieces are the end of the awning that can be adjusted. You do have to adjust the angle of the arm pieces as you crank it out or it will be off kilter.

    • Be careful if you install on a balcony.
I installed on our apartment balcony (23rd floor). Poles are located just inside the balcony railing. Because of potential for high winds, it is not wise to rely on these compression poles alone for stability even if the awning is rolled up. If the poles loosen due merely to temperature contraction, the whole thing could pitch forward and fall to the ground. I therefore added: 1. A bungee cord restraining each pole to the railing at pole mid height, 2. A bungee cord restraining the bottom of each pole to the bottom of the railing and 3. two side stabilizing bungees from the tops of the poles diagonally to the railing on either side. A few disappointments: 1. the steel cap nuts are not stainless and do not have lock washers to prevent loosening from wind vibrations. I will add these. 2. The light awning fabric colors do not stop sun glare. They need to offer dark green or blue: Instead you have to pick an almost black color of dark grey. 3. The awning fabric cannot be feasibly removed for cleaning without disassembling the entire structure. ... show more
