Purchased this Generac EV Charger for a few reasons. We live in a very small, rural, unsophisticated town without ready/easy access to working public charging stations, about 1.5 hours from a major city and many of our city dwelling friends have EVs. We plan to buy a plug-in Hybrid or All electric EV in the next few months. We have great history with Generac generators which have proven to be reliable. So, we bought this Generac Charger to relieve our friends range anxiety and be prepared when we take the plunge to EVs. Maybe a little cart before the horse but we had quite a bit of electrical work planned for our home and decided to add this project to the List. Installation went reasonably smoothly although it was the first install of an EV charger for our electrician. I'm sure he will be much faster when he does his next install. The APP was easy to install on my iPhone and pairing and setting up the charger was quick. I liked that one of my first questions on the APP was setting the maximum load for the charger. It allows me to control charge amperage. We are an all-electric home and want to be sure we have a balanced use of energy throughout the day. There is a great deal of data provided in the APP so I can figure out best configurations and time saving charger hours over time. I will follow up with first hand experience as soon as we get some charging fill-ups completed. So far, I'm quite impressed with the APP and monitoring capabilities.

I know Generac well from its line of portable generators. They have always put out an excellent product. As far as I can tell, they’re fairly new to the electric vehicle charging market. But this recently released L2 EV Charger, apparently made in partnership with Wallbox, has been produced to the same standard as their other products. It’s a premium-priced charger, but it delivers premium features. The L2 EV Charger has five charging modes and will charge a vehicle up to eight times faster than an L1 charger. The charger features Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity so you can manage your charging schedule through Generac’s proprietary app. And it has a unique power-sharing feature that lets you connect multiple chargers to the same circuit (up to 25) to optimize power usage and ensure no overloading. The “power boost” capability can increase your charging speed, while allowing you to monitor power so as to avoid tripping a breaker and causing disruption throughout your home. This sleek matte black charger will work on all electric vehicles using the SAE J1772 Type 1 connector, which almost every car has. (If you have a Tesla, it will require the purchase of an additional adapter.) The L2 EV Charger has a very small footprint (its longest measurement is just under eight inches), but it comes with a generous 25-foot charging cable. It can be mounted in a garage or outdoors. (This charger requires hardwiring and, unless you know what you’re doing, it’s best to have a qualified electrician install it.) On the downside, it doesn’t appear to offer any support for integrating into smart home installations, even though Matter smart home interoperability standards now support EV chargers. But it does offer compatibility with Alexa and Google Home (through the app). As for charging, so far, it’s working perfectly, although I’m using it at a second home, so I’ve only charged the vehicle fully about three times. But I’m using the “schedule” feature to charge overnight at - presumably - lower rates. That’s a great feature and it, too, works perfectly!

I recently had to replace my old L1 charger after it started giving me trouble, so I set out to find something that would make my life easier. This Level 2 EV Charger turned out to be a perfect solution for several reasons. Right away, it was clear that this was a major upgrade from my old L1 charger. It’s 8x faster, so I can get a full charge much quicker. I’m adding up to 30 miles of range every hour, which has been great for how I plan my daily routine. The Power Boost Technology is another big win, allowing me to charge my car without affecting the power flow to the rest of the house. The accompanying app makes managing the charger a breeze. I love being able to schedule charges overnight or during off-peak hours to save on my electric bill. The app also lets me set reminders, track my usage, and sends alerts when my car is fully charged, so there’s no more guessing involved. One thing that really impressed me is how compatible this charger is with all EV models. Whether you’re driving a Ford, Nissan, Tesla (with an adapter), or just about any other brand, this charger has you covered. The design is also worth mentioning. It’s powerful yet compact and comes with a premium 25ft cable, giving me lots of flexibility with installation. The rugged ABS enclosure means you can mount it indoors or outdoors without worrying about the elements. This EV charger is 48 AMP. You need to have an electrician run a 240V line if you don’t already have one. I set-up mine in the driveway. The long 25’ wire can reach any spot in the driveway. Easy setup on the phone with continuous updates. We are on the variable PG&E rate, so I set it to start at midnight and charge until I unplug it in the morning. I can track the charging via the app.

This 40-amp Level 2 charger from Generac is top quality and way better than my old (no name) Level 1 EV charger I had previously. The app is way easier to use and navigate (including setting it up) It also charges way faster... It's like going from an old micro usb 5w phone charger to a 25w fast charge usb-c, if that makes sense. It didn't cost too much to wire in, and electrician came out and installed it for us, took him maybe 1 hour total at $149. So not too bad. Overall, it's a great Level 2 EV charger that's worth its price!
