Description

Cuisinart's Outdoor Electric Grill with VersaStand integrated adjustable telescoping base provides authentic grilling performance and flavor. Its small format fits easily on balconies and small patios - great for places that propane or charcoal grills aren't allowed. And although the grill is compact, its ample cooking grate is large enough to cook most family meals - 8 steaks, 8 hamburgers, 6 - 10 chicken breasts, or over 4 lbs. of fish! The grill heats up very quickly, and reaches temperatures high enough to sear a steak to perfection. The novel VersaStand telescoping base quickly transforms the grill from storage to tabletop to floor standing use, allowing the chef to enjoy grilling at a comfortable height. The stand is integrated into the grill for added convenience - making easy to store when finished. The grill plugs into a standard household electrical receptacle. Most people love the flavor of grilled food, but not everyone has the space for a large gas grill or the time to grill with charcoal. Enter the CEG-980 electric grill, a handy, attractive alternative to traditional grilling. Equipped with a telescoping VersaStand, the CEG-980 combines the simplicity of an indoor appliance with the delicious cooking performance of an outdoor grill, making it ideal for people who love cooking outdoors but don't want to deal with the hassle of propane or charcoal. The electric grill offers a 145-square-inch grilling surface.. (View larger). The VersaStand holds the grill at a comfortable grilling height. (View larger). The VersaStand collapses beneath the grill for easy storage. (View larger). The Advantage of Electric GrillingTraditional gas and charcoal grills offer a wide variety of styles and designs--from large multi-burner gas grills with built-in islands to barrel- like charcoal grills--but sometimes prove to be too large, too intimidating, or too inconvenient for would-be outdoor chefs. While gas grills are certainly handy, some people find it discomforting and dangerous to cook with propane. Charcoal grills, while perhaps less intimidating, take considerable time to light and prepare, and can be messy to clean up afterward. Plus, some apartments and condos ban the use of propane or charcoal altogether. Electric grills minimize all of the above concerns, with instant-on controls, easy-to- clean designs, and no smelly gas or messy charcoal to get in the way of your cooking. Familiar, Easy-to-Use ControlsThe grilling process begins with the easiest fuel source you can find--a simple cord and outlet--along with a removable electric probe with a control knob that functions just like the knobs on most kitchen stoves. To get started, just plug the probe into the front of the grill and turn the knob to "Max." Within five minutes, the heating element will be glowing a toasty red and the grill will be ready for cooking. When you're finished grilling, the knob turns off just as easily. And cleanup couldn't be easier, as the porcelain-enameled grill grate cleans with a standard grill brush or removes for washing in an indoor or outdoor sink. Powerful Grilling PerformanceThe Cuisinart electric grill cooks up juicy steaks, burgers, and fish just like a gas grill thanks to the powerful 1,500-watt, 5,120 BTU burner, which spreads heat quickly and evenly through the 145-square-inch grill grate. The compact design produces a greater watt- to-square-inch ratio, leading to higher temperatures on the grate and better, more uniform cooking for your food. In addition, the grill includes a stainless-steel heat reflector in the lid. This extra layer not only acts as an insulator for trapping heat inside the grill, but actually reflects rising heat inside the grill back onto the top surfaces of your food, reducing cooking times and saving electricity. All of this translates into searing hot temperatures and prefect grill lines on everything you cook.Despite the compact size, the grilling surface is large enough to grill eight burgers, eight stakes, six to 10 chicken breasts, or up to 4 pounds of fish. Quick, Efficient SetupThe electric grill not only shines when it's loaded with food, but also when you're on the move, as the grill is a breeze to transport, set up, and store. The grill includes the thoughtfully designed VersaStand, an easy-to-use, easy-to-set-up grill stand that keeps the grill at a comfortable cooking height. The VersaStand sets up and packs away in seconds, giving you more time to enjoy the event and less time worrying about the hassles of putting your barbecue together. In fact, the grill and stand are so convenient to transport, carry, and set up, you won't think twice about tossing it in the trunk of your car.The VersaStand comes integrated into the base of the grill, with a set of telescoping poles that smoothly collapse for easy storage. When you're ready to grill, simply push the button on each VersaStand leg to release the telescoping legs, and then lift up the grill box. Once the two legs drop into position, you'll have a sturdy grill that stands at an ideal grilling height. No more breaking your back bending over a grill that sits mere inches off the ground. And when you're finished grilling, the stand collapses as easily as it sets up, making it easy to pack up your stuff. The grill also includes a secure front lid lock, which keeps the lid safely closed when you're on the move, and a pronounced carrying handle that lets you tote the 17-pound grill just like a briefcase.

  • Grilling made easy
I have had this grill for a while now and it is the perfect electric grill for a patio while living in a condominium. I don’t have to use charcoal or gas and it has the same flavor when I cook meat or fish. I season my meat with hickory or mesquite smoke and get the same result.

  • Works Well
This review is from: Cuisinart CEG-980T Outdoor Electric Tabletop Grill (Lawn & Patio) We moved to a condo that does not allow gas grills on the deck. I researched many electric grills to see which one would meet our needs. After comparing reviews I decided to go with the Cuisinart mainly due to the brand. I have other Cuisinart products and have been impressed with the quality of their products. So far we have grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, brats and pork chops. We have been impressed with it grill. It takes up about 10 mins to heat up. When grilling it does put the grill lines in the meat. The meat cooks well but don't check it often, because the grill does lose heat when you open the lid. This is not major, you just learn how to cook this way. The only negative about the grill and has been mentioned several times is the grease trap. It is very small and needs to be emptied after each use. I have had an overflow yet, but we take precautions by putting and rug under it when I grill. I do like the looks and the compact ability of the grill. I am very glad that I made the purchase. I recommend this grill for people in my situation that can't have a gas or charcoal grill. You will still have the joy of cooking out. ... show more

  • Waste of money.
I would give zero stars. Heating element is either defective or just inadequate. Took 35 minutes to grill 1 pork chop 1" thick. No grill marks, no browning. Wish I could get my money back. Useless piece of equipment.

  • Perfect summer fun
This was the perfect solution to having a little BBQ fun this summer. Not allowed to have non electric grills on high rise terraces so we can now have a burger, hot dog or anything grilled to perfection on this wonderful grill. Although it's small enough for my terrace it has plenty of surface space to make dinner for four. I loved that I didn't have any trouble assembling it into place and the clean up is a breeze. I love cuisinart products and have so many of them but this by far is my favorite. ... show more

  • Not Great For Steaks
I like the ease of use and the way it folds up and can be tucked away afterwards. The drip pan is small, but that didn't cause any problems for me. I have only used the grill twice and it really doesn't get hot enough to sear a steak, which is what you want to keep in the juices. I haven't cooked chicken or burgers on it yet, but the two steaks I did cook needed to be finished in my oven as it was taking way too long. I didn't give it four or more stars as of right now, but it's not a bad grill if you can't have a gas grill. However, I think Cuisinart makes a gas version and for the price I paid, I wish I went with that one. Overall, it's not a bad grill, but I would stick with gas/propane as electric just can't compete for cooking temparatures. ... show more

  • We love ours.
We have used this grill 6 or 8 times so far and love it. Addressing some negative views from others: It does maintain a set temperature according to where you set the dial. Thus the light goes off and on. We usually leave ours on MAX. Preheating on MAX for about 5 minutes or so really gets it ready. Hot dogs and hamburgers are great. Sear marks are always there for us. I let ours burn off on MAX while eating. I use crumpled aluminum foil to clean the grate while still warm. Follow up with paper towel. I wait a day or so and clean the bowl with a grill brush. First remove the burner by removing the 2 Phillips screws (very simple to do). I use another small brush to sweep the brunt drippings to the grease catcher hole after removing the grease cup. We use ours on a carpeted patio so we never use it when its wet. Caution: excessive grease accumulation will catch fire. Keep the unit in view always. Seasoning sprinkled on meat is very important. If the control ever quits working I'll buy a new one. ... show more

  • It is unpleasant cleaning the cook box
The grill is small. If you want to cook more than three burgers at the same time, this is not your option. It is a little difficult to clean. After several uses, the food starts getting a "certain" flavor that comes from the grease stuck in the bottom of the cook box. To clean it, you need a screwdriver to unassemble the heat element, clean the burned grease, and put the screw the heat element back. It is not difficult, but it is not pleasant. It automatically turns off and on at a certain temperature, which is a little annoying. ... show more

  • Good
I ordered a used one for $65, received two days later and assembled one and it looks like it’s brand new never been used, gets to 425° pretty, also I like the retractable leg stand, it’s pretty solid, the only thing it would be nice to have a thermometer, very happy update: unfortunately its not providing enough heat, will try to experiment with in a bit more, I would hate if I would have to clean it to send it back ... show more
