  • A very nice grill.
Style: 440D2 Pattern Name: Pellet Grill
Our old pellet grill finally bit the dust after many years of turning out great food. (It wasn't a Pit Boss) I've been shopping around for a replacement and this one gets a lot of good reviews so I thought I would give it a try. It's a beautiful grill. I will admit to feeling a little intimidated when I laid out all of those parts on the kitchen table (see photo). But with a little patience and just following the instructions step by step it went together rather well. I haven't cooked on it yet but I did run it through a break-in and test run. Everything worked perfectly, I started with the smoke mode and then ran it up through the temperature settings until I got it up to 450. It heated up well and fairly quickly considering that it was only about 45 degrees outside. It held temperature at least as well as my old grill, within about 10 degrees. I love the control panel, the Prime button, and the overall simplicity of use. The ability to slide a panel over to expose the burn pit is a nice feature for searing. You can easily empty the pellet bin to change pellets. (Yes, the bin is rather small but should be more than adequate for my use) There are two Jacks to plug in temperature probes into the meat and have the internal temp of whatever you're cooking displayed right on the panel. (The probes didn't come with it but when I saw that feature I immediately ordered some) And the grill is sharp-looking. I love the offset color of the lid. It really makes the grill look sharp. I'm looking forward to creating some great barbecue on this nice grill. Update: I finally cooked on the grill today. It sure wasn't fancy but it was a great test run. We had company over including 5 grandkids so I cooked up some burgers and bratwurst. Following the grill instructions I started it on the smoke (lowest) setting with the lid open and waited for the smoke. In just a few minutes there was billowing white smoke rolling out of the grill. I waited for the smoke to dissipate a little and then closed the lid and turned the heat up to 400. The grill heated up quickly considering it was about 40 degrees and windy. I decided to take out the upper grill to give me a little more room to flip the brats and burgers. During cooking, I found that the Prime button is very handy. What it does is boost the heat up by dumping extra pellets into the fire pot. It worked well by using it either right before or right after raising the lid to keep from losing too much heat. It also cranks up the smoke level for a few minutes which adds some great smoke flavor to the burgers and bratwurst. I found the grill to be very easy to use, and I can't wait to do something a little more serious on it such as ribs or brisket. I like the grill a lot. ... show more

  • Great overall grill
Style: 440D2 Pattern Name: Pellet Grill
Easy to assemble, seems well built easy to use, food taste great that we have cooked so far. Only complaint would be that when it is colder out the temp seems to fluctuates more then expected, but overall happy with this grill and would recommend to anyone looking for a pellet grill.

  • starting and closing it properly
Style: 440D2 Pattern Name: Pellet Grill
First of all, the smoker works as illustrated. Results were perfect Now for the problem I encountered. When the auger was feeding the pellets, it was making a thump sound. When it was not turning ,everything appeared fine. I called Pitboss ,and after 20 minutes, I finally could talk to a representative. I explained the problem to a lady, unfortunately, I did not ask her name. She had to discuss the issue with another, and it was decided that the auger was the problem. She sent a new one and it was received in two days. I was asked to do the repair. She sent me a video to follow . Under warranty and I have to do the labor? I am 76 years old, so I layed on the floor to remove the case hardened 4 screws on the bottom of the smoker ,As many people have noted, those screws do not remove easily. Before I stripped them, I had to resort to a screw driver and hammer to break the grip. The video then guides you along to remove the power cord grommet and then disconnect 6 connectors in the box and then 4 screws , two on each side to remove the cover. Before I started disconnecting, I went on You Tube. All I had to do was remove the 4 screws and proceed to the video Pitboss sent. All that work for no reason. I replaced the auger and guess what, same problem existed. I called again, this time , I had to wait for only 10 minutes. I spoke to John who was extremely helpful. I give him 10 stars, not 5. He discussed the issue with his team and the issue was with the pellets, not the smoker. I used pellets that contain some larger pieces. The auger was breaking these up causing the thump sound. I ordered Pitboss pellets and feel comfortable that was the issue because this morning, I vacuumed all the remaining pellets and fired up the smoker. I pressed the feeder until the auger was clear of pellets. Great news, it worked as expected. I would give the smoker a 5 rating but because of the scenario mentioned, I gave it a 4 star. Customer service was great, but the issue could have been resolved so easily. Lesson to those out there, watch what kind of pellets you are using in your Pitboss. Update---- Added the Pitboss pellets as suggested by them. The pellets did not work, and the thumping continued. So I called Pitboss again and was on hold for 35 minutes this time. I brought my phone to the smoker and had the lady listen to the thumping. She heard it three times and went to her team for direction. She asked that I take a video of it, call them again and then send the video. I questioned that my word and your word from hearing was not good enough for them? Conclusion: I am disassembling this smoker and sending it back and will purchase a Traeger. ... show more

  • Great product
Style: 440D2 Pattern Name: Pellet Grill
My second Pott Boss. They make a really quality product. I didn't think I would love this thing as much as I do. There are 2 things they can do to improve this product; make the pellet hopper bigger, I bought an extention, and make it easier to remove the drip shield. Small things but would improve the product. Works great, I use it 3-4 times a week. ... show more

  • Great Smoker
Style: 440D2 Pattern Name: Pellet Grill
I have several smokers and grills but had to purchase this one after visiting my brother in law who used this model to smoke rib racks. I have a large competitor’s model that I paid considerably more for that doesn’t maintain the consistent heat and smoke in comparison to this one. In fact, had to purchase a smoke tube to assist in get the more smoke. I am impressed with the convection and smoke. Takes about 2 hours to assemble. The instructions were probably the best I’ve ever experienced assembling a product. ... show more

  • Was a gift for friend. He loves it.
Style: 440D2 Pattern Name: Pellet Grill
Got this for a friend that likes to bbq. He set it up quick and was smoking within a couple hours because of burn in. His ribs were great. Works like it should. On the small side but can do 3 racks of ribs. More with a rib rack.
