Purchased this for making compound medications at home. Calibration was easy, and the calibration weight stores neatly inside the case. However, just sitting there with a sample on the scale, the weight would continuously adjust +/- 0.012g. For weights of 50-100mg, it is accurate enough, but for mcg scale weighing, it is not remotely accurate. The same exact sample read differently after being picked up and put down, forcing me to average the weight. ... show more

Over the last two months I purchased three scales wanting to accurately measure small amounts of nootropics in milligrams (0.001 g) : (1) Smart Weigh GEM20- 20g x 0.001 Grams, High Precision Digital Milligram Jewelry Scale ; (2) THINKSCALE Milligram Scale, 50g/0.001g Digital Pocket Scale; and (3) American Weigh (“AWS”) Scale Gemini Series Precision Digital Milligram Scale, Silver 20G X 0.001G (GEMINI-20) (Black). I was simply wanting a scale that seemed as accurate as my old AWS Gemini-20, that failed just shy of 10 years after purchase. Because it no longer cost $20, but now cost $50, I started with the less expensive ones. I returned the Gem-20 and did not compare it directly side-by-side with either of the others. But I did have the opportunity to directly compare the second two (think scale and Gemini 20). The GEM-20 looked identical to my old AWS Gemini-20 scale except for the branding and labeling. I don’t know whether it was the same scale that is simply sold without the 10 year warranty which allows the company to sell it for less money, or whether it was a Chinese knock off. I did not take any notes, but know that it was not the same experience that I was used to. But I did have the ThinkSscale and the new AWS Gemini-20 side-by-side. My Google research suggested that the way to measure less than 20 mg of powder was to start with a moderate weight already on the scale. So, I added tiny amounts of powder to 10 g. The Think Scale scale did not register any change. The Gemini 20 display, after a couple seconds, showed an increase in the number of milligrams. So, I am returning the Think Scale and keeping the AWS Gemini 20. That said, the Gemini 20 had a downside that I don’t remember with the old one that failed after 10 years. If left untouched, the display would slowly creep up in weight. However, given what’s available and the 10 year warranty of the Gemini 20, I decided to spend the $50 in order to get as close as I think one can get with the products that are available for $50 or less. But if you are OK with an accuracy of somewhere in the neighborhood of plus or minus 10 mg, the cheaper scales will probably serve you well. ... show more
