  • Added oil and fired right up!
Bolted right into the frame of my MTD tiller. Just needed to add oil for the low oil level switch to complete a circuit, and it fired right up. Runs smooth, quiet, and does not vibrate. The new design with the on/off switch, choke, and throttle are much better than the older models. This motor is a great replacement for the previous Briggs which was rather noisy. ... show more

  • Exactly what I needed
I replaced the motor on a garden tiller. I like all the controls on this motor rather than messing with cables. It also has a gas shutoff so I didn't need to install one. Bolted right in place. Started right up. Has more power and runs smother than the old one did. There are cheaper ones out there but I don't trust them, there are better and more expensive ones but the application didn't warrant one of them. I would suggest anyone purchasing any small engine do what I do though. Put in fresh oil, run it for 5 - 10 minutes and change the oil. What you drain looks like metal flaked paint with all the machine filings in the oil. (Every manufacturer is the same in this respect from what I have experienced) But, I believe you achieve a longer motor life by preventing these filings from creating preventable ware from the start. Made in China - harder to avoid every day. Made in China to Briggs specks, I believe is an advantage. For the price and application I highly recommend this motor. - It has already had a workout and has performed flawlessly. ... show more

  • Works good for me
Installed on old craftsman rear tine tiller. Started up and runs good. After about two hours of use, drained the oil and replaced. This is the third engine for this old tiller (25+ yrs old). Starts easy, runs good, doesn't smoke like previous engines did. My two cents worth.

  • Easy replacement
Replaced the original B&S engine on a 20 ton log splitter purchased from Northern Equipment in 1994. All mounting holes and keyway with the 3/4" shaft were the same and it fired up first pull. It has fuel shut off, spark arrestor and ON/OFF switch. You might like to know beforehand that, according to the manual, 10W-30 covers the widest operating temperature range. 30W can be used but the manual offers that "hard starting may be experienced below 40 degrees". It is quieter than the original engine and I'm really glad I made the purchase to keep my splitter going. The manual instructs the level the oil must reach on the dipstick but essentially you fill the reservoir until it until it can't hold anymore, ensuring first that the engine is sitting level. ... show more

Exactly what I was looking for to replace my leaf blower engine

  • Garbage
I used to think Briggs made a decent engine. I bought this to replace an old 5hp on a woodsplitter. New engine fired up on the first pull. However, from the get-go it never ran well. The engine would not run unless partially choked and always ran poorly. Split 2-3 cords and nothing changed. Sent it back thinking it was a lemon on got a new one. Same exact experience. I always use fresh, clean gas and run only ethanol-free gas in my small engines. There is also no way to adjust the carb on this engine. I will be returning the second engine today.
