I have tried several low-cost pairs of OTC hearing aids (under $100) and I have discovered trying to save a lot of money on them is not worth the compromise to my quality of life. Even though the BlaidsX Neuro hearing aids are more expensive than budget hearing aids, they are still low cost compared to the very high cost of hearing aids from an audiologist. The hearing aids are very lightweight and comfortable, I can barely tell that they are in my ears and I'm sure after I am used to them, I won't even know they are there. The BlaidsX hearing aids are very easy to customize for your individual hearing profile. I installed the app on my phone and it walked me through the process of syncing to the hearing aids. Next, the app walked me thru the steps of taking a hearing test with the hearing aids in my ears. Finally, I was provided with a personalized audiogram, and the app installed it onto the hearing aids. As soon as the profile was loaded, it was like flipping a light switch and my hearing instantly improved. Thru the use of the app there are several other parameters that can be adjusted and can be used for listening to music and phone calls.

There is a significant difference, actually a huge difference between hearing aids and hearing amplifiers. The difference is not just the price which is substantial. I'm in my mid-70s, and I have developed what I now perceive to be a considerable level of hearing loss. I tried at first to get away with buying a reasonably priced (cheap) of what I thought was a hearing aid, but it turns out it was simply a hearing amplifier. That drove me nuts, every time I increased the volume so that I could actually hear, the dam thing started whistling uncontrollably. Needless to say they spent more time in my drawer than in my ears. I still couldn't hear properly, but I sure wasn't ready to pay $5,000.00 for a pair of hearing aids. But now, you can buy Over The Counter (OTC) true hearing aids without a prescription for a fraction of the price. What a difference, not just the price but the difference with those cheap amplifiers and these hearing aids. I'm not going to repeat all the technical jargon, all I'm going to say is these hearing aids are a life changer, the sound quality surpassed my highest expectations. Oh, the one technical jargon I'm going to say is that you don't have to fiddle with batteries, these hearing aids have built-in rechargeable batteries. I'm thrilled now that I can hear.

I didn't watch any sort of TV for many years. When I started watching streamers, I noticed difficulty hearing, or really parsing, some of the dialogue. It's not to the point where it's super worrisome and I haven't had a hearing test, but I've been trying different hearing aids. The hearing aids you used to be able to get over the counter are only amplifiers, so they only make things louder. Companies have recently been able to sell actual hearing aids over the counter. I was very excited to try this one. The experience was a little frustrating out of the box. The right ear device connected to my phone easily, but the left would not connect. I ended up having to restart my phone to get it to connect. I then ran the fitting program. For some of the quieter sounds, I could hear the click of the recording starting and/ or stopping, but I wasn't sure if I heard the sound. I wasn't sure if the clicking WAS the sound. I was also hopeful that the app would offer at least some analysis of the results of the test, rather than just setting up the hearing aid. I wanted to rerun the fitting program, so I started it again. I had to try more than once, again, to connect the left side, with the right connecting easily. At least I didn't have to restart my phone this time. Wearing the devices, nothing really sounds different. I don't know if that's because the experience is seamless, or because I don't need them as much as I though I did. Analysis of the test results would have helped my understanding. I think the availability of a device like this is pretty revolutionary and someone who desperately needed it would be much more willing to gloss over the frustrations I had.

So far so good! This the first evaluation of BlaidsX Neuro Rechargeable RIC + Programmable Hearing Aids which I've been wearing for three days. It is a process to learn how to program and use hearing aids, but I've been guided by my spouse who is a long-time user. Uploading an audiogram and other basic programming is fairly easy using the Blaids App. Results are positive so far. One worrying note which will be the focus of an up-coming call with Blaids: the battery life is not as advertised. The aids lose power after charging each night and using daytime in a home environment. After an hour of use, the power level decreases from 99% to 74% on both hearing aids on all three days. On the second day of use, the power decreased from 99% to 54% after 4 hours of use walking outdoors with moderate surrounding sound. Each full day of use results in a battery life of ~8 hours. I'll use them in upcoming days and report back on battery life after contacting Blaids on the battery issue. Sound quality is decent so far, with audiogram loaded and various settings adjusted. The quality of hearing improvement is marked and the extraneous sounds (high pitched in most cases) is not a big problem since this part of the process of the brain getting acclimated to using hearing aids for the first time.
