  • Good drive
I bought 3 of these at different times. They all were sent brand new with 0 hours. The best way to see if the drive has been used is to check the S.M.A.R.T onboard memory. Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology. It was was created to monitor and detect signs of a failing hard drive automatically. In most cases, it would notify you of any problems that it has detected, but you can manually check the status on both Windows and Mac computers. Check out Backblaze's blogs and site for great information on hard drives and failure rates. They have awesome information on hard drive failure fates and detailed information. The data is invaluable. They've done all the hard work for us. Good luck! ... show more

  • Clicking every 5 seconds
Ordered two 18TB drives from Platinum Micro. Both are OEM, not retail, so hope Platinum Micro sticks around to cover any warranty issues. Speaking of, one drive is working like a champ while the other seems to be working, but I'm currently sending it back: while the drive is powered on, no matter what kind of workload or non-workload is going on, even when there is no MBR or GPT, it makes a loud click every 5 seconds, and has a secondary, quieter click every 15-60 seconds. We'll see how the replacement process goes. Side note: extended self test guesses it'll take 1935 minutes to complete, so roughly 1.5 days. Looks like badblocks will take 7-9 days at the current rate. ... show more

  • Drive warranty shows "Out Of Region" but that's ok
As others have mentioned, these drives are not from the US and when registered within the US will show "Out Of Region." I contacted WD support, and got this message - "Please to inform you that I have checked with my team and they informed that the warranty of the drive is validated as per the proof of purchase. So I would request you to keep the proof of purchase safe with you. Also you can ignore the out of region part as we are the one who will assist you if you need to claim warranty replacement for the drive." He reassured me that the warranty will be honored for the expected 5 year window, although the status "Out Of Region" will remain. That being said, these things are LOUD. Most of the time they’re reasonably quiet, but several times per hour they’ll unleash floor rattling clicking for several seconds at a time that I can hear through a wall. One of six drives experienced 3 CRC errors in the first day, it’s been about a month and nothing since but I will keep an eye on them. ... show more

  • Happy so far
It's a little on the loud side, but so far I'm quite happy with my first 18TB drive. I can't believe how big this thing is.

  • Very Large (18TB) and quiet. Warranty checked out fine for being OEM
Needed a large cap HD. Western Digital has always been 1 out of 2 picks (Love Seagate too). Some state their drive "clicks" or makes noise (which some do). This 18TB HD runs very quiet and has write speeds steady at 160 MBPS (up to 200MBPS on an Intel 11th Gen system). Since large SSD Drives are way too far expensive, a hard drive is way I can afford. Very Happy with this Purchase. ... show more

  • Good drives but hard to install in a PC
The drive mounts are for enterprise brackets so regular PC mounts don’t line up. Good drives but you need specific caddies for them unless you are ok with just 2 screws holding. Next time Ill buy Reds

  • Works good.
It’s a hard drive - kind of a yes/no on the ‘does it work’ list. It’s a good price and fast. Works well for my NAS.
