  • Lightning-fast, reliable, and built for performance — highly recommended.
Capacity: 4TB Style: SSD
I’ve been using this drive for a few months, and it’s easily one of the fastest and most stable Gen4 SSDs I’ve tested. Benchmarks reached 7,133 MB/s read and 4,169 MB/s write in performance mode — right in line with WD’s specs. Even under load, it maintained around 6,500 MB/s read and 3,600 MB/s write, showing great consistency. For testing purposes, I also ran a power-saving “stress” scenario that intentionally limited performance to simulate extreme throttling. Those results were only for analysis — customers will never experience that kind of slowdown in normal use. Thermals stay solid with a basic heatsink (mid-50 °C), and there’s no throttling during long transfers. The WD Dashboard software is easy to use and adds an optional Gaming Mode for max speed. ⚖️ Pros: - Reaches full Gen4 performance (7,000+ MB/s reads) - Excellent sustained write speed and thermal stability - Rock-solid reliability for OS, games, or content creation - Intuitive WD Dashboard software ⚠️ Cons: - Can run warm without heatsink - Requires a PCIe Gen4 slot and good airflow for full speed 🏁 Final Thoughts: The WD_BLACK SN850X is a premium SSD that lives up to its reputation. Under the right conditions, it delivers near-theoretical Gen4 speeds and flawless stability. Even in multitasking or gaming scenarios, performance stays consistent and responsive. The “low” benchmark results included here were testing artifacts—stress conditions designed to show how power management affects throughput, not what normal users should expect. In everyday use, this drive is exceptionally fast, reliable, and built to last. ✅ Verdict: A flagship-level NVMe SSD that rewards systems tuned for performance. Highly recommended for gamers, developers, and creators who want speed with zero compromise. ... show more

  • Extreme speed and reliable performance for gaming
Capacity: 1TB Style: SSD
The 1TB WD_BLACK SN850X was one of the best upgrades I made to my PC. Installation in M.2 format was quick and easy, and I noticed the difference from the very first boot: game loading times were drastically reduced, and the system responded with impressive smoothness. Speeds of up to 7,300 MB/s are truly noticeable in every large file transfer. Furthermore, the compact and elegant design fits perfectly in my system. Without a doubt, this is an SSD designed for gamers seeking power and stability. ... show more

  • Excellent SSD, Great Performance After Finding the Right Enclosure and Cable
Capacity: 8TB Style: SSD
I bought the WD_BLACK 8TB SN850X NVMe SSD to use with the UGREEN 80Gbps M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure and connected it to my M4 Max Mac Studio. At first, I noticed fast transfer speeds, but after transferring a few large files, the speed dropped significantly. Unplugging and reconnecting the enclosure temporarily fixed it, but the issue kept happening. I suspected the problem was the UGREEN enclosure since Western Digital drives have always been reliable for me. I returned the UGREEN and replaced it with the OWC Express 1M2 80Gb/s Enclosure. Transfer speeds were excellent, but the drive started disconnecting a couple of minutes after startup. The included USB-C cable was also too short. I replaced it with the OWC 0.8M Thunderbolt 5 (USB-C) Cable, and that completely solved the disconnection issue. Now everything works flawlessly, with consistent speeds of around 5800 MB/s write and 5600 MB/s read, and the enclosure stays cool during long transfers. It took some troubleshooting, but I’m very satisfied with the final setup. ... show more

  • Simple, fast, sturdy, and lighted
Capacity: 8TB Style: SSD w/ Heatsink
The WD Black SSD installed without any issues onto my motherboard. When I restored files onto it from the drive it replaced, the speed was excellent, but not up to 7K MB/s, but that was expected due to other variables. The heat sink does not have fins; it relies on thermal mass. No temperature issues so far. It was only after I had the whole system reassembled that I looked through my case front panel and noticed the M.2 had a side LED light. It's defaulting to orange. Supposedly it can be controlled, but the WD app for it has been obsoleted and replaced with one from Sandisk. I haven't gotten that to work yet, or figured out if my motherboard LED control can handle it. ... show more

  • WD_BLACK 2TB SN850X NVMe Gen4 SSD
Capacity: 2TB Style: SSD
Still the king of consumer Gen4 drives. Sequential speeds hit the advertised 7300/6600 every time, random performance is nuts, and it barely gets warm even under sustained writes. Already moved multiple terabytes of games and data in the first month – endurance is unreal. WD just doesn’t miss with the Black series. Buy it on sale and you won’t find anything faster for the price. ... show more

  • Pricey and super fast, gen4 good enough for gaming PC, 8TB enough for a long time
Capacity: 8TB Style: SSD
Pricey but not too much more than double the 4TB option. Plenty fast too even though it's gen4 and not gen5, I don't think I'm able to max out its speed in daily use including when I downloaded and installed a bunch of Steam games onto it. As of now, I've used about 1TB of its capacity. I recommend this to folks who are building a custom water loop because those are hard to open up for upgrades without tearing down the loop. For me, I wanted 8TB so I wouldn't need to worry. I filled up a 2TB drive quickly last time, and 8TB seemed to be good enough for a few years. My guess is that this drive is faster than necessary for most use, but given its 8TB capacity there aren't slower/cheaper options yet. I'm happy I chose this one, even though there was an 8TB gen5 option available (that one costing a bit over $1k). ... show more

  • WD_BLACK 2TB SN850X NVMe Internal Gaming SSD Solid State Drive - Gen4 PCIe, M.2
Capacity: 2TB Style: SSD
WD another legendary data storage company with high level data storage (SSD) in this case. Top of the line and extremely fast data storage processing SSD. It connects well without a lot of boot problems for itself. It has ample security features that compliment it's fine build. I find it quite compatible with my hi-tech build. ... show more

  • Fine product, but beware of sketchy sellers
Capacity: 8TB Style: SSD
Well, the product is fine. Fast, high capacity. It's great. But it seem some sellers/suppliers are trying to pass-off the 2TB variant as 8TB (see picture), and are just putting a sticker for the 8TB ASIN/SKU on the 2TB box/item. So be warned and check it when you receive it to make sure you got what you actually paid for! ... show more
