    • Good Drive But Unstable Prices

At the time I bought this it cost $192 USD, that's what I would consider a good price for it, but the $480 at time of review is certainly not worth it if you can wait. Speeds are good, but random read and writes may be slow. (Compared to the sequential speeds) M.2 installations are really easy, but you will benefit from a magnetic screwdriver and you may have to remove components like your GPU to access the M.2 slot. Check your motherboard for more information on this. I do not have a heatsink on the drive. For the most part sequential speeds are fine unless the transfer takes longer the 15 minutes, in which speeds begin to drop. Random speeds on the other hand appear more consistent, and my theory on that is that it begins thermal throttling quicker, and I say that as I've seen temperatures rise to roughly 75-80c on random in a relatively short amount of time compared to sequential. ... show more

Purchased in 2021 - writing a review in 2025 w/ 75tb written to it. Yeah.. 75TB. I'm not the type to savor my drive, if I need to move, wipe, redownload my steam library, ill do it without hesitation. Partially because I have confidence in this drive, and partially I just don't care? I purchased this drive in 2021 for a grand total of 351. Ill brag and share pictures later, I saw that Samsung will stop making consumer SSD's next month and wanted to buy another before they go up, which led me to writing a review. This drive has given me absolutely 0 issues, with at least 15 Windows wipes, across a Razer laptop, so heat soaked, to my custom desktop, to my gaming laptop, back to my desktop....to my latest desktop. And more times back and forth , seriously I don't care. This drive has given me faith in Samsung because it performs well. I would say that the benefit of this drive is equivalent, if not actually more important of an upgrade than RAM. Specifically when you want to open up a program - the random read probably helps things feel snappy. I've overclocked it once or twice via the samsung software, I have filled all 2tb worth of data, and this is still in my gaming laptop just chillen in all that heat while I game. I recommend this drive for your next purchase because it has served me for 4 years and 75TB worth of write. Worth. Every. Penny. But looking back it also hurts that younger me spent 350 on this drive.... not gonna lie yall. ... show more

    • Blazing fast drive, but runs pretty hot

Why I ordered this item: My old boot drive was getting full and I wanted something zippy for my gaming rig. I've had good luck with Samsung drives in the past so this felt like an easy pick. Likes: * Boot times are insane now. Windows is up and usable in maybe 10 seconds. * Load times in the couple big games I tested this on dropped a ton. One of them went from a loading screen you could get a snack during to barely a blink. * It comes with a little heat spreader label already stuck on. * The drive itself is tiny. It just clicks into the M.2 slot and you barely notice it's there once the cover is back on. * Transfer speeds on big files are crazy good. I moved a folder of raw video files over and it didn't even feel like it was working that hard. No likes: * It does run warm. I put my hand near the motherboard after a long render and could feel heat coming off that area even with a heatsink on my board. * Price per gig is still pretty outrageous. If you just want cheap storage, this isn't it. Would I pay full price for this product: Yes Final thoughts: This thing is built for people who push their storage, gamers, editors, that kind of crowd. If you're just storing documents and photos, none of this speed will matter to you.
