Used this new drive as a larger replacement for my C:/ drive (OS drive) in my Dell XPS 8930 desktop system. So far, this thing works great and is amazingly fast. My system originally came with a 256GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD drive. But, I was very close to the max limit on that drive and I was having trouble finding anything more to move to my secondary data drive. I also didn't really relish the idea of having to do a fresh windows 11 install and having to reload all my apps, data and everything else. I keep my system throughly updated and cleaned up, so I wasn't dealing with an old, bloated, slow install. I went with Samsung for this new SSD, for two reasons. First, I've bought Samsung drives before and was always impressed. But, most of all, because I was familiar with the Samsung Magician software that you can download free to do the data migration (cloning), as well as other ongoing drive maintenance. This free software will only allow you to transfer to a Samsung drive, so it's a no-go if you buy a different brand of drive. As expected, the Samsung Magician software is very good (now in Version 9.0) and it made the cloning of my old C: drive an easy and quick job. My old drive had nearly 220GB of data to be migrated to my new drive and it all happened in a little more than an hour. It copies and transfers every single bit of data from the original drive. Once it says the transfer has completed, you just shut it all down, transfer the new drive into your original C: drive socket and power back up. Everything is exactly the same as it was when you started. I had to use a UGREEN NVMe M.2 enclosure plugged into my computer through a USB port for the cloning operation, as my Dell desktop computer only has one NVMe M.2 slot. That was also purchased through Amazon for less than $20. So far, this new SSD drive is super fast and hasn't missed a beat since it was powered up. I highly recommend Samsung drives. One last note.......if you have questions or problems installing your new SSB, Samsung has a great customer service telephone help desk. Within 5 minutes of placing my call, I was talking to a very knowledgable computer expert that immediately answered my questions, made a couple of good suggestions and had me all taken care of. And, believe it or not, this guy sounded US based and was very easy to understand. All together, my problems were resolved in less than 10 minutes total, including a short wait to be routed to the correct product specialist. Way to go Samsung! ... show more

This might be the best upgrade I made to my computer so far, extra storage that is fast and reliable. While it is hard to argue this is worth it as the current price of this product has gone up, I was able to get it for under $200 and, 2 years of games and work, it has made everything run so much faster and smoother. The current price is outrageous, but I got this drive a while back and it’s been amazing. I use one for my OS and boot drive, and I have one for my games. Boot times are between 8-10 seconds, and games run perfectly on it. The real issue right now is price. When I got this drive I paid less than 150 bucks for the 2TB. The current price is wild and as good as it is, I wouldn’t personally pay the insane amount. While the speeds are great, the average person/gamer isn’t going to notice that much of a difference with a cheaper one with slightly slower speeds.     • A perfect high-performance NVMe pool for apps/containers in my custom TrueNAS box

I am using two of these 1TB drives in a custom NAS box I put together running TrueNAS. I have two 12TB HDD drives, two slower SSDs, and two of these great Samsung 1TB NVMe drives. While the majority of my backups are on the mirrored HDD drives, and the TrueNAS boot drives are the SSDs, I use these two Samsung NVMes as a high-performance NVME pool for storing apps, containers, metadata, VMs, databases, and PLEX metadata. This is ideal because the ZFS mirror offers redundancy for critical app data, low latency and high IOPS making it a great place for TrueNAS apps and datasets. These drives are the biggest real-world performance area of my NAS so I use it where speed matters most. The TrueNAS OS and temp jobs/work stay on the SSDs so they don't wear out these NVMes quickly. These drives are nice and fast for PCIe 4.0. They also were a great price at the time because of holiday pricing and they were on backorder for a bit, which caused the price to drop for a week, too. So the value couldn't be beat at the time. Samsung drives like these have never failed me, and some of my M.2 drives get quite a workout on my main desktop build! The only thing I would recommend with these drives is using a third-party heatsink on them that has a fan on it. It keeps these drives nice and cool during high loads. Without them, you run the risk of overheating and heat-related speed throttling, causing your drives to slow down while hot. So keep these drive cool by slapping a $20 M.2 heatsink+fan on there and never worry again! These drives were perfect for my new NAS, or for your next desktop PC drive replacement! They work great and are trouble-free for me so far. I will update if I ever run into any problems with them. ... show more

I am only writing to say that it is insane how expensive all the memory has gotten. This is a great M.2 SSD but not for what it cost today. In April of 2023 this only cost me $180. Today it's on sale for almost $400 and the regular price is almost $700, insane. Fast SSD, no issues, easy installation, and compact. I would buy again but not at these prices. ... show more

A very good SSD with the quality and performance I've come to expect from Samsung. It's fast, stable, and has been working without any issues. I installed it in my laptop as a replacement for a WD SSD that failed unexpectedly, and the 990 PRO has performed perfectly so far. That experience was also another reminder of how important it is to keep important data backed up or stored in the cloud. The 990 PRO 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD pushes PCIe 4.0 right to its ceiling. Sequential reads hit 7,450 MB/s and writes reach 6,900 MB/s, while random performance climbs 40 to 55 percent over its predecessor, topping out at 1,400K and 1,550K IOPS. Power efficiency improves up to 50 percent per watt, the slim build fits standard laptop and desktop slots, and the drive clears the speed bar for console expansion storage. Installation takes minutes. Slide it into an M.2 slot, tighten one screw, boot up, done. No cables, no brackets, no fuss. The single sided layout clears most motherboard heatsinks and laptop bays without a fight. My board picked it up instantly, and the firmware update rolled in through the bundled software within a couple of clicks. Thermal behavior impressed me the most. A coated controller paired with the heat spreader label keeps temperatures in check through long transfer sessions, so sustained speeds hold steady instead of falling off a cliff.
