The Seagate Expansion 28TB External Drive is a fantastic choice if you’re looking for sheer storage capacity at a reasonable price. For long-term media archiving, backup, or general cold storage, it delivers excellent value. Setup was quick and easy—plug-and-play as expected. However, as with most high-capacity USB 3.0 drives, don’t expect blazing-fast performance. In CrystalDiskMark, I measured: Read: ~197 MB/s Write: ~190 MB/s This is fine for large file transfers in the background but definitely not suited for real-time editing or active use cases involving lots of I/O. Another consideration is thermal performance. Even sitting on a laptop cooling pad with good airflow, the drive still runs warmer than I’d like, hovering in the high 40s°C. This is something to monitor if you plan on heavy or sustained usage. Despite these speed and heat caveats, the value per terabyte and reliability from a known brand like Seagate makes this a smart buy for bulk storage.
