The Samsung 990 PRO 4TB with the built-in heatsink was a huge storage upgrade in my Rog Xbox Ally X. Installation was simple, and the heatsink fits perfectly without blocking anything in the motherboard. Performance-wise, this SSD is extremely fast. I considered using a microSD card instead of this but the the microSD card won’t support AAA games. With this SSD card I have installed multiple AAA games and still have storage room for installing future games. Extremely happy with the investment. The best part is the temperature control. Thanks to the built-in heatsink, the drive stays cool even during long gaming sessions. I haven’t had any thermal throttling or drops in speed. If you need lots of space and top performance for gaming handheld Rog Xbox Ally X—this SSD is definitely worth it. It’s one of the best upgrades. I've used the Samsung 990 PRO Heatsink SSD for about a year and a half in my setup. It appears to be made of high quality materials, featuring an in-house controller with a nickel coating for better thermal management. Supposedly, this drive reaches near max performance with PCIe 4.0 and provides the best power efficiency, though I am not personally measuring the wattage at my wall outlet every second. It is awesome. The value is good for a 1TB drive that hits read speeds up to 7,450MB/s and write speeds up to 6,900MB/s. It is a perfect fit for the PS5 or desktops meeting the PCI-SIG D8 standard. The random read and write speeds are significantly faster than the 980 PRO, which helps with 3D modeling and data analysis. It has RGB LED lights for style, which is helpful because everyone knows red lights make your data move faster. Installed this SSD in my PS5 and it just works exactly as advertised. Physical install took literally 3-4 minutes (unscrew the cover, slot it in, screw it down). No issues at all. PS5 recognized it instantly, formatted in under a minute, and I started moving games over right away. Transfer speeds were blazing – big titles moved in a fraction of the time I expected. Real-world performance is excellent: load times noticeably faster, no stuttering, and the console stays cooler even during long sessions. My son plays a lot on his PlayStation Pro 5 He downloads a lot of games, and he's looking for better speed and storage performance I can tell you with all my heart that since I bought the Samsung SSD 990 PRO Everything flies faster at a really high speed, waiting times have decreased significantly And of course the big advantage is that there is an extra 2 TB of space for many more games!! It's very worth the money in my opinion for those who often play a lot Super easy installation You take off the Sony cover and insert the memory into its designated area and secure it with a screw that's already inside the device, after that you turn on the PlayStation and format the SSD and that's it! Great compatibility for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. Easy to install. Remove back panel, remove screw on storage plate, remove screw with spacer and move over, install SSD, tighten screw with spacer - just enough, don't crank it down - place storage cover plate back on and screw in place, replace back panel...that's it - takes like a minute or so...maybe 2 minutes if you take your time). Playstion will automatically recognize it and prompts you to format it (which only takes seconds). That's it. It does transfer quickly... everything is a breeze. If it's on sale - you definitely got a great value. To be honest, it's actually overkill for the PS5, but that's better than being not enough. It should be quick enough regarding it's specs to last to the next generation of equipment at least (at least as a bare minimum...I'm sure it's fine for long time in compatibility - it's high end now - so it should be relevant for a long while). Having a heat sink is always a huge plus. You won't have any worries about having an "iffy" SSD memory situation here. This Samsung SSD has better specs than the most popular Western Digital SSD (not that it really matters since it's overkill as I said, but it's worth pointing out that technically this one is better). Unless this item is at full price, id certainly recommend or re-buy it (not that it isn't worth the MSRP, it's just not necessary...there would be better deals with other products at that point). After installing the SAMSUNG 990 PRO w/ Heatsink SSD 2TB drive, I saw an immediate performance improvement. However, my computer occasionally restarted due to errors and booted from my old 970 EVO secondary drive because the 990 PRO was no longer visible to the system. When this happened, the blue light on the 990 PRO was not illuminated. Powering down the computer and restarting it would restore the 990 PRO as the boot drive, but the error would happen again. I tried moving the 990 PRO to a different M.2 socket, but the problem continued. Eventually, I enabled Full Performance Mode in Samsung Magician's Performance Optimization menu, despite a warning message that it might cause excessive heat and void the warranty. Despite the warning, after changing to Full Performance Mode, Samsung Magician reports that the 990 PRO is running at a normal 37 degrees Celsius. Since enabling Full Performance Mode, I have not had any system lockups, unplanned restarts, or blue screen of death (BSOD) errors. I only had problems when running the Samsung 990 PRO drive in the Standard Mode or Power Saving Mode. I don't know whether the problem is with the drive itself or the Microsoft NVMe Driver in Windows 11, but setting Samsung's Full Performance Mode stops it from happening. I highly recommend these drives as long as they are configured in Full Performance Mode. I hope sharing my experience helps someone else avoid falsely concluding that the Samsung 990 PRO drives are trash due to an easily corrected configuration setting.
