  • Seriously exceeds my expectations - 2 yr update
So far, so good. I have only had these in my ears for 20 minutes but I am absolutely amazed so far. I've been wearing hearing aides for about four years and have tried the ITC (inside the canal @ $2,500 per ear) and the BTE (behind the ear @ $1,000 per ear). The first attempt at ITC was terrible and I returned them for refund; the performance didn't justify the expense. The second attempt with BTE was much better but the device wouldn't last. I had to return them for service four times in three years and each time the device would fail within hours of receiving from the service center. I haven't had my hearing aides on for almost a month because I wouldn't/couldn't send them back again for service that was apparently a waste of time. After completing research I found the Walker Game Ear on Amazon and decided it was worth a try since I'd already paid the equivalent value in repairs for my previous prescription set. I am very impressed so far and pleased with the limited testing. I have been forced to reduce the volume six levels because the sensitivity is so good I was hearing the air in the room from the air conditioning system. Also, while sitting at my desk I can hear the water coming out of the coffee pot thirty feet away. I'll probably update this review at some point in the future to reflect a more comprehensive experience but so far I'm really impressed. Update: 01/10/18 Still working very well. Battery life seems about the same as my previously "prescribed" devices and the fit and finish is at least equal if not better. I have kept these Game Ear devices in my wish list and I will purchase again, if/when this pair requires replacement. Very good value and they continue to exceed my expectations. Update: 3/4/19 Still working very well, again. I've been forced to replace the flexible ear pieces but they continue to work very well exceeding my expectations as well as they other professional devices that I'd purchased previously. I high recommend these for those with hearing problems. Update: 8/16/19 I've finally found something that is wrong with my hearing aids: they don't like to get wet. I sweat a lot and when the battery compartment gets too wet, the battery shorts out and tells me that the battery has died. I've learned to take them off and put them into my pocket when I'm about to do something that's going to make me very sweaty. I just pop them back in when I've started cooling down. I still love these for the price and plan to buy them again if they ever fail. I've had these hearing aides for 27 months and I'm starting to experience problems with corrosion on one of them. The device won't always power on and may self-start after some variable time. I believe that the corrosion is the result of my perspiration because I've learned that I can't wear these when I'm going to be performing heavy work that may produce a lot of sweat; they will short out and stop working. Unfortunately, I've misplaced my cleaning kit and have been unable to clean the contacts of the battery chamber so I can't tell if the issue is electrical or electronic. In any case, I have been more than satisfied with these hearing aides and will continue to recommend them to everyone that has the need AND I will be buying them again. The price is simply too good when compared to what the national name brand health care providers charge. Thank you to Walker for such a valuable product. ... show more

  • Be patient when going through the first fitting. After THAT its scary good!!
As a 74 year young woman with a typical "age related" hearing loss (I hate that term but it does apply here) I was in the process of testing an expensive ($2,000) pair of "in the ear" hearing aids. They were slick, easy to use and adjust, auto shut of when removed, rechargeable with a portable case that would actually charge them. After 3 weeks I decided to look at alternatives. A customer of mine was wearing a WALKER'S model and raved about it. So I searched and found the WALKER'S ELITE XGE1B for $120.00. Actually I ordered three different WALKER models but this is the first one I tried. I've been wearing them for about an hour AND I AM WELL PLEASED! It took some time and a wee bit of frustration to get the sound tube onto the ear hook but once we got that done it was incredible! I found myself significantly lowering my voice and my husband was impressed with how much more I could hear. Can't wait to wear this to work. I'm a cashier in a small town hardware store and I was spending a lot of time cupping my ear to hear customers or actually trying to read lips, even while testing those "expensive" aids. OK, so I'll have to turn these off when I remove them, actually change the battery when necessary and they may not be as fashionable (can't really see them if I comb my hair). BUT the way I do the math that's an $1,800 savings. Works for me! ... show more

  • Using as regular hearing aid
I've worn Walker Game Ears as a regular hearing aid for going on five years now and so far they've been great. There are a couple of things to be aware of if you're going to use them as every day aids. Because the aids are made for hunters, they will shut off for a split second around loud noises (think slamming door or cabinet) so for that split second, you have no hearing help. It also tends to squeal for a moment when it comes back (at least mine does). I've learned to live with it so it doesn't bother me anymore but it was noticeable when I first started wearing them. I also have no clue how to adjust them beyond the normal volume control, so even though that's supposed to be a selling point, I can't tell you how that works. Overall, I'm very happy with them. I couldn't afford to buy hearing aids from specialists. I also tried in-the-ear hearing aids from other companies and, while they worked well, they only lasted a year or so. At $300 per hearing aid I couldn't afford to replace them every year. I could buy 2 WGE for the cost of one of the other hearing aids with money to spare. I finally had to replace my Walker hearing aid about a month ago after 5 years of really good (daily) use. EDIT 11/11/2018: I just wanted to add that these hearing aids are pretty durable. My cat has managed to get mine 3 times (don't ask. No, really, please don't ask). All three times all she's managed to do is chew up the tube and ear tip. The hearing aid has come through like a champ! ... show more

  • 4 digital sound processing channels? 8 band graphic equalizer? This is false advertising.
4 digital sound processing channels? 8 band graphic equalizer? This is false advertising because you will NOT be able to adjust these hearing amplifiers for your personal needs. I have been using Walker's Game Ears as hearing aids since 2014, and with all previous purchases - yes, I lost a couple – I had the ability to choose one of the 4 digital sound processing channels. For my right ear channel three provided the best sound balance, but this model does NOT provide a choice despite the claims. They’re set at channel one with no means of adjustment in the normal manner like other Walker’s units I’ve purchased. Now my wife needs a pair, and although Walker’s provide good sound quality when working, I won’t buy Walker’s brand unless there is a guarantee that the channel processing options are indeed working. I’m very disappointed. ... show more
