This is a very compact level 2 charger. It is probably meant to be portable and carried in your EV, but since it comes with hardware to mount it to a wall, it would seem that it can be in a fixed installation, too. Of course, to more fully know the manufacturers intent, we would need better instructions than the ones that came with this device. Let's start with the unit itself. It is well finished and feels solidly built. The display is crisp, but pretty much text based. It clearly displays the baseline information needed to do a simple charge. Really, no issue with basic use - plug it in to the wall socket and plug the other end into the vehicle. No issues and no hassle. The hassle part is when you are trying to install the wall mount hardware and also plug in to an external, weather guarded, NEMA enclosure like the one in my photos. The plug from this charger had problems fitting into the box cover. I had to saw off the fingers in the bottom end of the box to allow space to insert the plug and cable Additionally, I had to carve off part of the plug insulation in order to allow the cover of my junction box to close. I would say that this is a "fail" since the charger is supposed to be able to be used outdoors. I carved up my junction box to fit, as well as the plug on the unit itself, but I could not do that anywhere else. All this carving and fitting cost an extra 30 minutes for my install. In order to install the mounting hardware on my external stucco wall, I needed to set aside the provided screws and screw anchors. For any situation where you will be pulling out on the mount one should not use plastic wall anchors. The small screws and anchors provided are just insufficient to the task, especially if the charger is getting a lot of use. I substituted my own 1/8" x 2" toggle bolts as shown in the photo. These are strong enough to hold the brackets and the rack for the car end. I ended up mounting the main pod sideways instead of vertical to give me the longest reach with the unit. The cable is only 20 feet long past the control module. It would have been better to have a 25 foot cable to accommodate various placements of the charge door on various cars more easily. So, I mounted the pod sideways to give me an extra foot or more of reach. The mounted unit is minimally intrusive and works. The final install with the charger handle in its storage rack on the wall shows the overall layout of my installation. I suspect it can be as compact as it is because of its lack of networking (ie. sending out a signal over the net so you can monitor your charge while doing something else), and other features that allowed this device to be small and less obtrusive.. With all the little annoyances above, I still give this a four because of the low price, compact form factor and solid construction. Even after putting it in the mounting hardware, it is easily removable for portable use. As long as your remote destination does not have weather covers on the plug box, you should be fine. ... show more

Doesn’t work. Would give it 0 stars if possible. Bought this over a different brand because it said it would get here the next day but took longer to get here than the other brand would have. Doesn’t work.

When I searched and read reviews about many EV chargers from various brands before requesting this one, the most common reason for low ratings was the lack of durability, with chargers breaking down after just a couple of months. However, I am happy to report that this charger has been going strong for 7 months now. While it may not be the most superior EV charger compared to others I've tried, it has proven to be a reliable and efficient charging solution for electric vehicle owners. As expected, its J1772 charging adapter and NEMA 14-50 compatibility make it suitable for home use. With a charging rate of 32 Amps and operating at 240 Volts, it offers faster and more efficient charging times compared to standard Level 1 chargers. Unlike some other chargers I've used, the 20-foot cable provides enough length for convenient charging without the need for additional extension cords. The ability to charge your electric vehicle much faster than with a Level 1 charger is a significant advantage. This charger reduces waiting time for a fully charged vehicle, making it highly convenient for daily use. The VOLTORB L2 EV Charger worked perfectly. I plugged the charger into my 14-50 NEMA electrical outlet, which is connected to my main panel on its on own circuit breaker. I have a 200 AMP Sub Panel to a 400 AMP Main Panel. Again, this was plugged into a 14-50 NEMA Electrical Outlet connected to a 50 AMP circuit breaker in the main 400 amp outside panel. The electric charger charged my car without any issues. The charger provides you a nice LED screen that displays useful information about your charging.
