Why do they do this? The design of the light is what makes this a bad ceiling fan. It has this dumb lip on it that makes it so the light doesn't shine up onto the top part of the ceiling. If you are installing this on a vaulted ceiling or you have high ceilings then it probably doesn't matter, but in our regular 8' ceiling rooms, this fan just makes the room look dark. I'll need to add another lamp to make it feel right... The fan itself is fine and installation wasn't terrible. There's always a learning curve with ceiling fans, but they need to update the light cover. ... show more

Got this put up in my kitchen without too much fuss. Pretty standard build and installation. The remote works well and runs on standard RF frequencies if you're looking to use a bridge. The media could not be loaded. But this is a nice fan and worth the money. I didn’t want to buy a ceiling fan that would break the bank because my Hampton bay one recently just stopped working. I decided on this fan because of the reviews on its performance as the down lighting isn’t a problem for me because I use other lighting in my room. First off, the instructions for this fan are minimal and if this is your first time putting up a ceiling fan it’s going to be difficult for you. That being said, with a little help from my brother in law I was able to successfully install this fan with a few set backs. Once fully installed I noticed that the top piece that hides the cords could have been a little bit bigger because we had to force a lot of the wires inside to get it to fit. I also had to retighten the screws on the blades because when I started the fan for the first time it started to click very loudly. Once this was completed, the fan was whisper quiet and I had no further issues with it. The light on this fan is very bright and I appreciate the different levels of warmth it gives. The nature setting also automatically adjusts the fan speed and is great to sleep with. Although the installation wasn’t my favorite, this is still a quality fan and I would definitely purchase it again. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Ultimately, this fan was not a good fit for the room I wanted to install it in, which was unfortunate, because there's a lot to like about it. The Good: I really liked the design of this fan. It's difficult to find clean, modern looking ceiling fans for small rooms, in the 42" size range. The matte white finish was beautiful, and I liked that *both* options for the fan blades were attractive. Standard white, and a very nice looking pale oak finish that was a near perfect match for the light Ikea furniture woods, and hickory flooring. I also liked the FAN part of this fan. It really cooled off the room better than my old fan, was perfectly balanced and whisper quiet. My favorite part was the 'Nature' mode that varies the speed of the fan gradually, simulating an outdoor breeze that blows in gusts. It's really convincing and very relaxing! The remote! It was easy to set up, and included plenty of features. Dimmable lights, fan speed and direction, nature mode, a timer option, lighting temperatures (more on the light later...), etc. The So-So: Installation was fairly simple, but not as simple (or complex) as other ceiling fans I have installed. I would have had a more difficult time if I had not replaced any ceiling fans in the past. The instructions don't cover all scenarios, and the images aren't 100% accurate to what they give you in the box, so you're left to improvise a little bit. For example: I was mounting to a fan box where my old fan had been mounted, which I imagine is fairly typical in North America. However, the guide only listed instructions for wooden or concrete ceilings. The bracket still worked, it just would have been nice to see that option listed in the guide. The wires were also a little bit too short to connect to the wiring in my house, so I was again left to splice something together to make them reach. The Not Good: The light. Maybe the flat, downcast-only style of LED light works better for rooms with taller ceilings, but I really did not like the quality of the light in a small bedroom with 8ft ceilings. The light is quite bright, similar to a 60W bulb, and you can toggle between a warm, neutral, and cool light color. However, ALL of the light is focused straight down. This means my ceiling, and the top 12-24" of my walls was just left dark and in shadow. There is zero bounce light from the ceiling, and leaves the tops of each wall dark. This also means the light itself appears VERY harsh to look at since it is so focused, and contrasts with the shadowed ceiling. It made the room feel unpleasant and unevenly lit, compared to my old fan that had a globe light that could cast light more evenly around the room and ceiling. As a ceiling fan, I really like this fan. Unfortunately, your mileage may vary on the lighting. The style of light it includes just wasn't a good fit for my room. The light is easily removeable, and I would love to see an option in the future for a slightly more side-casting light paired with this same fan. ... show more

Its always hot in the South and putting a ceiling fan in every conceivable room makes a difference. This one was easy to assemble and then easy to install. I was happy that it has 2 colors so we could decide which was right for our space. Works really well.
