I ordered this for my small backyard of a townhome. I read all the reviews and despite the issues with the instructions I decided to purchase this item. I give it 4 stars after one week of use only because of the same problems with the instructions that the others have experienced. Overall it seems like the quality of the construction is pretty decent but I wish I had ordered the 10X8 instead of the 8x7. I will order the 10x8 once it's on sale again and will find somewhere else to use the 8x7. The instructions do leave a lot to be desired but were adequate with the color photo sheet to get it assembled and installed in about 3 hours with the assistance of my adult son. There are no descriptions of the parts which made assembly challenging in some areas. I had researched multiple awnings prior to purchase and viewed several assembly videos which helped greatly. A word of caution, the hardware for mounting only includes bolts for cement/concrete/brick walls. My installing was going on a metal over wood soffit. I had lag bolts on hand which I used and they work effectively but if you don't have them on hand you may need to purchase them for a wood wall/stud installation. My wife really likes the looks of the awning and I would certainly recommend it after only one week of use.

These are definitely not a one-man installation job. Once you figure out the installation on the first, the second goes a bit easier. They seem to be constructed of good quality material, but the screws that come with it are soft and you can easily strip the tops with your power driver. Then, you can't get them back out if needed. After getting it installed according to instructions, I cranked it all the way out (8ft) and a small breeze almost flipped the entire thing on the roof. If I hadn't reeled it all the way back in when I did, there would have been serious damage. Once there was no breeze at all, I put it back out and it seemed to support itself OK. Whomever designed these awnings should find a different job. Rain water will accumulate in the middle until the weight breaks everything. We found we were constantly retracting ours with slight breezy days. While out shopping, a small rain came out of nowhere and destroyed it. I would not recommend this type of self-supported awning to my worse enemy.

The directions were misleading and it was not easy to assemble you also need several people to hold it up to slide it in the wall mount brackets…it also doesn’t open the way it shows in the pictures and illustrations

I am a very experienced handyman around the house. this was difficult to assemble and attach to house. Definitely takes 2 people and 2 ladders. Had to guess at final adjustments as the instructions were lacking. However once installed have enjoyed the shade this summer. Would have rated it a 5 except for instructions. Included lag bolts are for brick. Had to purchase lag bolts for wood at homedepot. Would buy again.
