This paddle is very solid right from the start and is loaded with features that are standard on just about any intermediate level paddle out there. The paddle features a standard 16mm polypropylene honeycomb core, which seems to be the foundation of the best paddles that I have tested and played with. This is a closed throat style, edged paddle and it has very typical plastic edge banding around the outside. The fit and finish of the paddle is very good. There are zero manufacturing defects on the paddle and the artwork/printing is done well and definitely looks like a higher end paddle than some of the others found here on Amazon. I had only tested out one other Passion Pulse paddle before and was pleased with it, so I was excited to play with this one. I had a chance to play against my daughter this past weekend and opted to play with this paddle. Overall, it's a very nice paddle, but the "list" or full retail price is a bit steep in my opinion for the quality. It's a great paddle at the sale price (currently $95) but at the full retail of $159 I would probably opt to go with a bigger name paddle like a Joola or Selkirk. The first thing is that for a paddle in this price range, it's a bit heavier than I would expect. They list an 8oz average, and the paddle I received teeters on my scale between 8 and 8.1oz. Pretty close to as listed, but again, for a $160 paddle, it's a bit on the high side. I would expect something more in the 7.6-7.7oz range at this price point, but it's not a total detriment. The sweet spot on the paddle is really very good. It's maybe a touch bigger than average and allows you to get a decent hit on the ball. It's totally dinkable. The 3K carbon fiber face is super grippy and does a nice job letting you put considerable spin on the ball with ease. The grip has a nice feel to it and I didn't need any grip enhancer or anything special to be able to hold on to the paddle while playing. This is a nice paddle for an intermediate player who doesn't mind a paddle on the heavier side of the spectrum and who wants a super grippy carbon fiber face on an edged paddle. I don't know that I would pay the full retail price for it, but at the current $95 price, I would be all over this paddle.

The paddle has a lot of good qualities. Good texture/spin. A decent sweet spot, power, and control. There's one big problem -- and sadly, it's a fairly common issue with these mid-tier paddles: the handle. It's what I call "chonky." It feels very rectangular as opposed to octagonal. That's bad. It's bad because in order to get really good top-spin on your forehand groundstrokes, you need to rotate the paddle to a 1/8th position. But too often, midrate paddle makers don't put much thought into the handle... and you can actually feel the paddle surface layers extend down into the handle. This is just sloppy design. For a $40-$60 paddle, fine. They're giving you a discount cuz they're cutting corners. But this is too expensive to be going cheap on the handle design.

Right out of the box, the first thing you'll notice about this paddle is that it's very rigid. That has pros and cons. Rigidity means that it's not very forgiving with shot placement, so the control is all on you. However, rigidity means that all that power in your arm and core transfers very efficiently to the paddle when you swing, which makes this paddle an absolute power monster. It's a bit light for how rigid it is, which makes the head "flap" a bit when you swing hard, meaning the head tends to drag behind the handle a bit when you have a neutral grip. You can fix that by putting a bit of weight on the head, but that will increase wrist fatigue, especially in beginner players. So this may not be the best paddle for a novice, both because of the flap, and because of the rigidity. One other small complaint I had was the handle--it starts to feel really sticky when you've been gripping it for a while. Easy to fix with a new wrap, but I shouldn't have to. They should maybe do a bit more product testing and find a grip that stays comfortable after playing for a while. The paddle face grips nicely, as most decent carbon paddles do, so you can put some good spin on the ball if you keep it clean. Overall, this is a pretty solid paddle for any player who has been at it for a while, has good shot placement, and is ready to level up their power.
