Does a fantastic job, phenomenal customer service

This is my second purchase of this product. First one went in easily and worked great right off. On the second one I had a problem that turned out to be incorrect installation by my plumber, nothing wrong with the Tier1. However, before we found out that it was plumbed wrong, Tier1 support shipped me a replacement part, and literally spent hours on the phone troubleshooting the problem, which turned out to be mine and my plumbers problem. Dana and Emily went above and beyond to help me get the unit working properly. Would definitely order again from Tier1. The unit does a great job on softening the water. During transit, the shipper noticed an issue with the large tank (the actual softener) and "refused" delivery due to damage on my behalf. Without even asking, the company got in touch with me to let me know a replacement had been dispatched immediately. Excellent service before we even got the unit in the door! Compared to whole house systems found in most big-box stores, this system is an absolute beast. The softener alone weighs about 160 lbs and is as tall as some people. The brine tank looks like a scaled-down version of an outdoor trash can. Considering the size, it takes up a lot less real-estate than you'd think but isn't designed to move around - once installed, its pretty much there forever. Though I had ours professionally installed along with some other plumbing we had done, the plumber said the instructions were clear and straighforward, and something most homeowners or DIY'ers could figure out easily. I'd suggest getting 5-6 40 lbs bags of salt to get it started. Great company who stands by their product - highly recommend. ... show more

A good value

The install was relatively easy (for me). My installer took about 3 hours start to finish. He stated that it required a bit more assembly than he expected, however no problem. I like the electronic display- easy to read and understand. I expect the programming would be user friendly, however, the factory pre-sets are fine for me at this time. Thus far unit operates quietly and efficiently. (2 years later) I developed a problem with the brine tank overflowing after re-charge and called customer service. The woman that answered found my information immediately and after defining the problem referred me to the technical people. The next day I spoke at some length with Dana and he very specifically told me how to rectify the problem and his diagnoses was quick and correct- problem solved. I was quite impressed with the quick and accurate response from Tier 1 and certainly would give them 5 stars for service. ... show more

Easy pezy

This was my 2nd installation, 1st one for a friend four years ago, I decided to replace my culligan due to lack of parts to fix it after paying 3k. This water softener exceeded my expectations, not only the price, the application it covers as well. It's been a month now, just works beautifully. False advertising! Do not believe the product description!

In my opinion, this company’s marketing is deceptive. The product is advertised as regenerating only when needed rather than on a fixed schedule, but that is not what I was told by the manufacturer. I spoke directly with them, and they confirmed there is no way to bypass the fixed regeneration schedule. Regardless of water usage, the unit regenerates every 30 days and uses approximately 92 gallons of water each time. That directly contradicts the impression their marketing gives consumers. The filter also leaked from the day it was installed. I contacted customer service immediately, and they told me they would send a replacement filter. Instead, they repeatedly went back and forth with me over my address, delaying the process, and I still have not received the replacement. To make matters worse, I was told their system is not rated for outdoor installation and is intended only for use in locations such as basements. However, there was no clear warning on the product listing or in the product details before I purchased it. Had that information been disclosed upfront, I never would have bought this system. Between the misleading marketing, the lack of important product disclosures, and the poor customer service, I feel completely misled. In my opinion, consumers should be aware of these issues before spending their money. I also had to pay a plumber to install it. That’s the only reason I didn’t return it. ... show more
