  • Nice Little Hearing Amplifier
I bought the Magni Ear because I have a 40% hearing loss in each ear and it does work, but you have to turn the dial all the way up (past the biggest dot) to get the most amplification. When it arrived, it wasn't called Magni Ear but "The Mighty Ear" although it looked exactly as advertised in Amazon. My sister told me she had purchased one for my mother who has a serious hearing loss, and it helped her. When the battery compartment is completely closed, it is on, and when you want to turn it off, you have to pull open the battery compartment (without dislodging the battery) which stops the battery's contact with the amplifier, and it takes a strong pull of your finger to open it. So if a user has arthritis or isn't strong, he or she should have someone else help until getting the hang of this. It came with six batteries. I also purchased separately an amplifier called Turbo Ear (see my review for it) which doesn't take batteries and has its own charger and has an off and on switch, and I found Turbo Ear to work similarly to The Mighty Ear/Magni Ear. Magni Ear helps watching TV with the sound turned to a normal level, and at work so I can hear clearly what people are saying, but it does amplifiy other noises around you, so if you are in a noisy place, it may amplify too many sounds. You would have to ignore the extraneous sounds and pay attention to what you need to hear, such as someone talking to you at a convention. Or else do without it until you are in a quieter room. So I would recommend this, although some said its hard to open the case and it took me a bit to figure out to hold it with my left hand and thumb applying pressure on the bottom of the case in front and at the same time, using my right hand with its thumb on the front upper case to lift the top and open it. You can't just pull it open; it seems to have a catch, hence you need to press on the bottom and lift the top to open it. For the price, it works okay and the batteries last for quite a few days if you remember to open the battery holder to turn them off between using it. And it sure beats paying for an expensive hearing aid, which probably won't work any better with a mild hearing loss. My mother didn't like her original hearing aid which cost her nearly a thousand dollars years ago and says she liked the Magni Ear and she has a major hearing loss. So it works, it helps. ... show more

  • Defective Hearing Aid
Bought this hearing amplifier for my 98 year old mother who has trouble hearing the last year. I thought this might be a simple aid for her to use. I tried it first and it does not work. It just makes a amplifier type hum in my ear. It was inexpensive so I thought it might be worth a try.

  • Works fine for what it is....
This is truly a "sound amplification system" and not a subsitute for a real, professionally-fitted hearing aid. But it helps my father a lot as he listens to TV and they are cheap enough that we don't cry when one gets tossed away in the trash or lost. And I swear that i saw this identical unit selling for $199 in a Sky Mall magazine on a plane yesterday. ... show more

  • Excellent AMPLIFICATION system!
After both of my hearing aids were damaged beyond repair, I could not afford new ones. I needed something so that I could continue to work. I bought these to use in the interim of getting new digital aids. After carefully reading others' reviews, I was ready for anything. I was pleasantly surprised by how well they worked! They are slightly uncomfortable (especially compared to my personally-molded hearing aids) but more than worth the price! They do amplify ALL sound and cannot "cancel out" ambient noise like digital hearing aids can. But they work beautifully for me! Word to the wise: these are AMPLIFIERS, not hearing aids. My husband wanted to try it on and was quite surprised at the difference in sound through the amplifier. It sounds the same as my first experience with an aid; it seems as if everything you're hearing is coming through a microphone. ... show more

  • quit working after a few days
It is not a high quality hearing aid, but I never expected it to be! It was good enough for to help me hear better. The problem was the reliability, It quit working after a few days use. The problem appears to be the connection to the battery. The first Time I changed the battery it stopped working . $20.00 down the drain ... show more

  • satisfactory
i bought these hearing aids for my lady friend to see if they helped her. the batteries do not seem to last very long. but the aids seem to help and serve it's purpose. it seems the plugs are a one size fits all ears. they don't seem to echo like other cheap aids. the locking and unlocking compartment for the batteries is a little hard for her to open and close. ... show more

  • sound amplifier.
I do not know how to describe, it doesn't work at all. Instead of improving the sound It creats its own sound like a very light whistling which disrupt the hearing. May be its so due to being that inexpensive.

  • MAGNI EAR SAVED MY JOB
I had the most expensive digital hearing aid that always slipped around in my ear, gave me feedback and felt like an ear plug. The Magni Ear feels more comfortable, doesn't slip around and helps me to hear my very soft-spoken boss. I got the Magni Ear as a quick fix when my boss told me that I wasn't listening in meetings. It did the trick and saved my job. I bought three separate units. One to keep at work, one to keep at home and one to carry with me. Sure it eats up batteries if you keep it on all the time, but I only use it when I expect to be around soft-spoken people, so a battery will last a long time. It amplifies just the same as the expensive hearing aid...picking up background noises. With practice, you get used to that with a standard hearing aid and the Magna ear. I'd say the Magna ear is WELL worth the tiny price you pay for it. Like anything else that is small, lightweight and made of plastic, you have to be careful with the little pieces so they don't break. I've been using them for 2 years....they are still going strong. Because I use them on and off during the day, I'm still using the original battery pack that came with the product. I just can't say enough good things about this product! J ... show more
