This item required extra hardware to make it retract properly which we had to purchase from a hardware store. Also, the anchors it came with are more for concrete & so we had to replace those as well. In the end, we spent about $50 in additional parts. Shipping speed was great!     • Well made but installation may be difficult.

It seems well made and has worked well for the first week. However, installation took me about two weeks. The instructions lay out 10 steps in 6 languages. The type is so small I needed a magnifying glass and the drawings so small the meaning was often unclear. The biggest problem for me is that it is designed to mount on a vertical masonry wall, while we needed to mount on the horizontal soffit. I eventually did this by mounting the awning on a 2x6" board using 3/8" carriage bolts inserted from the soffit side. I started with bolts 2 1/2" long to be sure to have enough thread, but then discovered that one of the four positions required a shorter bolt because of interference by the turning mechanism. I used 3 1/2" deck strews to fasten the board (with inserted bolts) to the joists. Then the hard part. Using the order of assembly in the instructions, I found it impractical to attach the assembled awning at both ends simultaneously (even with the help of my wife). What worked for me was to remove the two articulating arms, and then one end bracket can be attached on its own, then insert the roller, and attach the other bracket. One is then faced with the challenge of attaching the two articulating arms, which I was able to do with some maneuvering. One of the more difficult aspects of the design is described in the instructions as "Please move part K to a suitable position". No explanation of what makes a position suitable. I think getting the position right gets the arms folded up neatly, but the design makes it difficult/impossible to change the position with everything assembled. In my case, the arms are not quite symmetrical, but I'm afraid to try making any adjustments. As is the awning seems to function fine. I improved the design by leaving the fringe off. ... show more

Came without instructions but found some similar ones online. Installed by myself in about 2 hours on a concrete block wall. A second person would be helpful. It does NOT mount flush to the wall and has about a 2 inch gap when extended so water can get behind it when raining.. I may install a section of 1x6 above it to act as little 'roof' so water does not get behind it. Its been through several big thunderstorms with no issues. Only thing I would do different is probably spray the fabric before install with a UV water repellent for extra protection. ... show more

I consider myself pretty handy, much more than the average guy as I’ve been designing and building furnitures for over 16 years, can fix almost anything mechanical or electrical, but most importantly I CAN FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. Unfortunately this product is not just poorly built and, at least mine, came with bent pieces I had to fix, they send you a 21 pager manual where they tell you in the first 9 pages Please contact us and don’t return it in 6 different languages. Then 1 page has the box content and then in 4 pages they have the worst drawing instructions you’ll see in your life. They explain partially the use of some screws but completing this is absolutely empirical. You can spend hours adjusting until you get it done right. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT if you are not really handy and have the patience to get it to completion. ... show more

    • You get what you pay for...
Visited the website to replace the arms that were damaged during a storm. Even fully retracted the arms and braces were bent beyond repair. The welds for adjusting the height were pretty crappy and broke within the first month, and the thing was never fully extended. It was easy to put together, but setting it to the side of the vinyl siding home we have required additional parts and planks, but that's no biggie because I enjoy hobby work... I am going to purchase it again and keep the old ones for spare parts, but that's just because it is cheaper than putting up a permanent deck cover (which I will do eventually). It is not bad for the shade it provides, but I would definitely recommend waiting to put up something more sturdy. In the end, you get what you pay for. ... show more

Instructions are hard to follow, doesn't hold up in the wind, or rain. Ours already broke and now we need to replace it, just had it up 4 months. Not worth it, the price your paying get something with your money that will be worth while. Ours in in the garbage, we even tried to re-enforce it, did not work. Now we are without. Buyer beware Update: Even though I wrote the review above, I do want to say that these people are fair with you if you are honest with them they do you right, they reimbursed the whole purchase price.
