My husband and I purchased the Schumacher ev charger for our garage. I liked that it was a little more stylish than some of the boxy units on the market. My husband was more interested in the specs, but they ticked his boxes too. Plus, we both wanted an EV charger with an app so we could schedule charging. A pleasant surprise once the charger arrived was that the QR code in the manual leads to a page where you can access some great videos and also set up installation. It was really convenient not to have to hunt down an electrician on our own. Now that it’s up and running, we’re both really happy with it. The charger is fast and works great. Love this charger! I was initially intimidated by the fact that it had to be hardwired. I am not a do-it-yourselfer, but on the Schumacher EV website you can click on a link to get an installation quote and hire a licensed electrician. Installation only took a few clicks and my credit card. My kind of DIY. The installer even walked me through setting up the app, which was easy. And I know it’s not the most important thing, but I like that you can hang up the gun from either direction and it doesn’t stick out into the garage for me to constantly knock off with my car mirror.     • Fast charging at home
I work from home, but also spend a lot of time on the road to visit with local clients. I like the Schumacher charger, because it lets me pop home between appointments and recharge my EV for a while before I have to head out again for another appointment. It’s a really fast 50A charger, so it doesn’t take long to top off my battery. The hardest part is remembering to plug the car in on my way inside. ... show more

Beautiful to look at, app is very basic and the app works when it wants to as another person said. Mine was hardwired by an electrician but the app will say car is unplugged and not charging when the car is clearly plugged in AND charging. The history does not work so you can't look back and see any specs. The charger works but frequently stops at 75% charged when it is set to charge to 90%. Sometimes it starts and stops. If I could return it, and not loose any money, I would. But I have already paid $700 for this and money to have it installed. ... show more

    • The unit did not work out of the box
I installed two of these units the same day. Neither one worked. I called customer service and after speaking with them over two days and they were no help. I have been an electrician for forty years and don’t think you should have to troubleshoot something out of the box.

I had some questions about installation of this Schumacher EV charger and what sort of charging speed I could get out of my home’s power service (200 amp panel), so I called the Schumacher customer service with my questions. Not only were they able answer all my questions, they also directed me to a portal on their website where I could set up installation. I got a free online consultation that went over my home’s power system and what it would require to install the charger. My installation turned out to be pretty easy. They also sent me a free estimate, which was reasonable enough that I was happy to have them come out and do the job. The electrician came out, got to work, and everything was up and running in a few hours. The entire process was extremely easy and I haven’t had a single problem with the charger since they set it up. I had a new toilet installed a few months ago and it was way more of a hassle than this. I highly recommend getting a Schumacher charger and letting them handle the install. ... show more
