This is incredibly durable and even though gets a bit abused outside because it stays in front yard. It's had zero problems over 6 mos, charges at level 2 consistently at home, and cord length is long enough that we never have to struggle with having to position the car closer. Long enough to get to drive way and then some without it cluttering. Feels well made and heavy duty. We get around 40% charge overnight on this. So with around an average of 30% left every day, we get it up to 70% or more by the morning. Not bad for level 2 home charging.     • Schumacher quality is very good
The Schumacher EVSE is a high quality, reliable L1, L2 charging system for Electric Vehicles. It plugs in nicely to the Nissan Leaf and provides 1 KWH of charging from a standard 120V 15A wall outlet in the garage. My car has a 24 KWH battery and is typically recharged overnight in 8-10 hours. The wire is heavy guage and coated with heavy duty protective rubber. The plugs on both ends are high quality and will likely provide years of service. There are no bells or whistles on this unit (e.g. no bluetooth, no wifi, no on/off timers). There are a few simple status lights that indicate that the car is connected, the power is on and charging is taking place. There is a fault light that would indicate if something is not right. Have used on and off now for two years when I travel. Have used both with connector to a 240V dryer outlet for L2 charging but more often to 120V for L1. No issues with either one. Added some plastic to the exposed parts to make it water resistant so that it can be left outside in the rain. When using on L1 with my PHEV despite setting the car to 16-20 Amps max, it will only run at about 12 amps, with average wattage running around 1420-1450 (I used a separate power meter). I only connect to 20 Amp breaker outlets and have never tripped a breaker. My car battery is a 20KWHr and it takes about 15 hours to do a full charge on the 120V circuit. When using L1 the plug/cord that connects into outlet gets to about 106 degrees F, based on a thermal imaging camera (under 100 degrees with the main cord). The efficiency is much lower with this unit compared to the L2 unit I have in my garage but I think that has to do with my car and not this product. Using this as a L1 charge the overall efficiency is about 75% compared to 90+% on my L2 home charger (the L1 charger that came with my car only pulls 6 amps which I think is worthless). I have not tested the efficiency on this product using it as L2. Overall I like it and would buy it again. Extra long cord is great, and overall build quality seems to be good. Great charging cable! quality materials and craftsmanship, charges quickly, seems durable. Used with a 2019 Kia Niro PHEV. I bought this charging cable to replace a 3 yo trickle charger from Kia that crapped out on me, possibly due to exposure to rain. I was trying to just replace what I had, and this product looked very similar. but this cable is much faster than the one that came with my car. I’ve been using it daily for about two months and so far I’m very pleased. It has endured at least two rain events and several wet mornings.     • Great for roadtripping
This works on my Kia EV6. I plugged it into a regular 5-15 for level one charging and it works charging at 1.8 KW/H. I also used it with a 14-50P to 6-20R adapter, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081PZCR65?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details, and it works well charging at 3.7 KW/H. I use the 14-50 plug with a 50amp breaker with my ChargePoint Homeflex. My ChargePoint will draw 40amp and charges 2.5 times as fast. This cord will only draw 16amp so it works as designed. I got this charger primarily to keep in the car for road trips. I like the 28 foot length. I figure it will come in handy on the road when I stay with friends and can plug into their outdoor wall socket. I got the 14-50 adapter just in case I stay overnight at an RV or campground where there is a 14-50 plug. Driving on the road, I'm hoping I won't have to use it but I feel much better having it and the different charging options just in case. Another note about this charger is the amperage. The 120 AC outlets in my garage are 20 amp so I have no issues using this charger at my house. On the road when I stay with friends, this may not be the case. I can adjust the AC charge level in my Kia EV6 to minimum and I charge at 1.1 KWH instead of the max of 1.8 KWH. This allows my to plug in at a friends house even if they only have a 15amp outlet. ... show more

    • No longer works well for an I3, plug is melting
I have been using this on average about 1-2 times a week for two months now, less than ten charges overall. I have been using this only as a level one charger so far. Unfortunately the charger now is heating up during the charging cycle so much that the wall plug is starting to melt at the point where I plug it in, and there is a burning plastic smell in the garage. This just started, it wasn’t doing that during the first several times that I used it. This is a fire hazard. This item has failed after less than ten uses. Original review: I bought this for a BMW I3. I like that it works as both a level one and level two charger. I use this in level one mode, but if I upgrade to a 220 volt outlet in my garage, I can keep using this without having to buy a new one. It is a bit slow as many level ones are. It took about 15 hours to fully charge my car from about 15% to full. This is ok for me at this time. I also like that this is 28 feet long. I use most of the 28 feet and am happy with this aspect of the charger. Overall this is an economical charger without many frills that works very well and has an extra long cord. ... show more
