Color: Black Capacity: 2TB
I recently acquired the SanDisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD, and I'm thoroughly impressed with its performance and features. First and foremost, the speed of data transfer is exceptional. Whether I'm transferring large files, editing videos, or running applications directly from the drive, the SSD handles everything with remarkable speed and efficiency. It has significantly reduced waiting times, enhancing my overall productivity. The 2TB storage capacity is a game-changer for those dealing with large media files or extensive data libraries. It provides ample space without compromising on portability. The compact and rugged design ensures durability, making it an ideal companion for on-the-go professionals or anyone who values data security. The inclusion of USB-C and USB-A cables adds versatility, allowing seamless connectivity with various devices. The compatibility with both Mac and Windows systems is a definite plus. What sets the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD apart is its durability. • Good little back-up drive
Color: Black Capacity: 2TB
This backup drive is very lightweight, seems pretty resistant to damage, and it's fast. I can't go back to the old type now. Even though this one is considerably more expensive, it's worth it. One thing to mention. I use a Mac, and I used the Utilities disk to format and password protect this (can also encrypt it). They wanted you to use their software, which was unnecessary. ... show more

  • Perfect for travel photographer
Color: Sky Blue Capacity: 2TB
Was looking for a small, portable, and durable SSD hard drive to backup pics on travel/vacation. This SSD ticks all of those blocks. I travel with an iPad pro and my cameras, leaving the laptop at home. This allows me to travel lighter and still manage to do light post processing if I want to. One of the major issues with using an iPad to view or post process photos is that if you are shooting in RAW+JPG, only the JPG imports into the iPad. My work around, is to connect the camera and hard drive to the iPad and copy both file types to the hard drive. I am then able to pull the raw file from the hard drive into my iPad (either copying it into the iPad or opening it straight from the hard drive into Affinity Photo). This method allows me to back up my photos as I go, so really no extra steps. Nonetheless, this little SSD works great and i was surprised at just how small it really is. Easily slips into one of my external pockets on my camera backpack or camera sling bag. In fact, it is so small, i can connect it to my iPad when on a flight and work on pics without issue. Another issue that this workflow has helped with is that one of the cameras that I travel with is the Sony A7CII. The current iPad IOS (16) does not support these RAW file types yet. However, Affinity Photo does. So, I can pull the RAW files from that camera directly from the hard drive into Affinity Photo fro iPad and edit them. If you try to save the RAW file directly to your iPad it doesn't work. ... show more

  • Great drive; bad cable
Color: Black Capacity: 2TB
I bought two of these and they are fast and work great; just replace the cable as they are defective. Your drive will dismount from your desktop after a certain period of time requiring you to restart your computer. Replace the cable and you will not regret it.

  • Good value but finicky on Mac
Color: Black Capacity: 4TB
This drive is fast and a good value, but after 6 months, I can say that it's rather finicky on a Mac. So I'm reducing my rating to 4 stars. My first issue was that the drive became unrecognizable on my MacBook Pro M1. The Mac couldn't see the drive in Disk Utility or give any sign that the drive existed at all. Even more bizarre, when I plugged it into three other Macs, it worked fine. Eventually, I figured out that it was because I wasn't using the original cable that came with it, which I think is perhaps a lightning cable or something, which apparently my MacBook Pro M1 really wanted. But to work on 3 other macs just fine with a regular USB-C cable? Bizarre. So there was quirk number one. Later on, when encrypting the drive, I either unplugged it too soon, or the operating system didn't unmount it properly, and the drive became corrupted and this time, though showing up in DiskUtility, couldn't be formatted or partitioned without failing with a strange error each time. Others on the internet who had this issue said they ultimately had to return the drive for a new one. I was about to return mine too, but then as a last-ditch effort, I borrowed a Windows 11 machine, which recognized the drive no problem. So I re-partitioned it there, and then brought it back to my Mac, where Disk Utility was happy to deal with it again. The third quirk is that often, my Mac refuses to eject the drive. Ventura, and Sonoma before it, almost always says the drive is in use, even when every program is closed. Spotlight isn't indexing it. Maybe it's because I have my primary Photos Library on it and it's doing something in the background? But it's not obvious, and I have to shut-down my computer almost every time to eject this disk. I'll have to put more time into researching active processes to see what the deal is, but I just don't have this issue with my other external drives. So again, Sandisk and Apple need to coordinate on this. So while I'd love to give this drive five stars, all these quirks on the Mac have wasted a lot of my time. And SanDisk (Western Digital) needs to really take a look at some of the compatibility issues with Mac and update the firmware / drivers on this. ... show more
