Initially, the man of the house wasn't all-in on this purchase. That changed the minute he sat down with a cocktail on a beautifully shaded patio. The Purple Leaf Umbrella has solved our problem. Our patio faces North and gets the afternoon West sun that is low in the sky. Traditional patio umbrellas can be tilted only a small degree; the limited tilt meant we could only have shade when the sun was overhead. In the photos, you will see that the tilt of the Purple Leaf is what allows us to block the later-afternoon sun. The Purple Leaf Umbrella offers freedom from sunshine any hour of the day. It is extremely well-made, easy to operate, has a 360 turn area and nearly a vertical tilt. The umbrella is sturdy and attractive. It withstood even hefty winds. It is easy to set up in spring and take down in fall. One recommendation: If you're using sand in the base, you'll find that bags of sand are generally moist/wet inside. That makes it difficult to feed into the base. Take the time to distribute the bags of sand on a tarp on a sunny day, and let the sand dry out. Then it will be easy to funnel into the base. We have owned this 13' umbrella for over one year. We are very happy with it and everybody who sees our setup compliments us on how beautiful it is. It is a well designed outside umbrella and very well made. Materials used are first class and the unit is well put together. Everything fits. The shipment arrived very well packaged and easy to handle. The 13 foot double top round umbrella is a substantial piece of equipment and requires two adults, at minimum, to install it. To lift the top assembly into the stand requires a good amount of manpower. Since the umbrella swivels 360 degrees it covers the whole of our wooden deck from morning till evening by making adjustments every so often during the day. We use the steel plate base which easily attaches to the deck and is located by 16 lag screws. This installation looks clean and stands up to some good size wind gusts. I would draw the line at about 15, maybe 20 mph. Opening and closing of the big canopy and rotating the unit is intuitive and easy. The Purple Leaf customer service is super responsive and went out of their way being helpful. I had a question about the workings of a small item being part of the canopy assembly and within a few days a complete replacement arrived at my front door.

Cannot say enough good things about this umbrella. Bolted into concrete and we closed it for wind and rains. We had severe winds and it is still standing. I have been waiting for something that could withstand 70-80 mph winds. I will be opening it back up soon and will update if anything goes wrong. Color was as advertised. Very sturdy, attractive "market" vibe. I am wanting a second one to cover the other side of the patio and wishing I hadn't waited so long or wasted money on other things that simply weren't as sturdy

We bought this to cover a pair of lounge chairs on an elevated deck by our new pool and its amazing. We paired it with the PURPLE LEAF Offset Patio Umbrella Base Sand/Water Filled Square, 34'' X 34''; which I would highly recommend adding if you're not planning to install the out-of-the-box base (just simple steel cross braces) directly into the ground/surface where you're placing the umbrella. Combined with the base and filled with four 50lb bags of sand, the umbrella is incredibly sturdy. The umbrella was very easy to assemble (did it all by myself) and is super easy to operate (360 rotation, tilt and open/close cranks). The evening after I installed the umbrella and filled the base we had sustained winds of 25mph and gusts over 30mph and this held its ground without budging an inch will folded up (without the cover on it). However, be smart...if it's windy out, don't have the umbrella open. That seems pretty straight forward but its worth saying. If its really windy out and the umbrella is moving about I always close it. The aluminum frame isn't designed to take substantially stress when opened like a sail! It can handle light winds without issue, but 15-20mph sustained winds would probably be too much. We're in Henderson, NV, on a mountainside and its quite windy yet there has only been 1 or 2 times where I've felt I needed to close the umbrella due to wind. The only negative I have is that we ordered the navy blue umbrella and it came with a beige/tan cover and the vendor said thats the only color cover they had. Kind od stinks that it doesn't match the umbrella (we have this paired with the PURPLE LEAF 9 Feet Double Top Deluxe Patio Umbrella in Navy Blue so mismatching those colors would be odd.

Originally This was to be delivered on Friday the 23rd. After sitting in the warehouse and not being shipped for a few days It was scheduled for after the memorial day weekend. Purple leaf contacted me and offered me a 10% discount and kept following up and somehow the umbrella was actually delivered Saturday afternoon so we at least got to use it for half of the memorial day weekend installing it on Sunday. Their customer service was very prompt and helpful. We love the umbrella as it appears well built, is very sturdy, easy to install and works great. It also swivels very easily. I would supply a picture but it is down today as we are expecting some wind and rain.
