Let's get this out of the way up front. This is an expensive umbrella. Yes, there are less expensive competitors. Yes there's a "hidden" additional cost of purchasing a base. If price is your main concern, this is absolutely not the shade umbrella for you. However, I've now used this for a full season and I really like it. This thing is VERY sturdy. It's also very easy to use (once you've gotten it together). Disclaimer, I live in a suburban neighborhood that is not susceptible to sustained high winds. It's very easy to expand/collapse and put away. I like that it came with a cover. I'm not certain of the long term effects of UV on the cover, but it's absolutely protecting the actual umbrella from the elements while it's not in uses. It also looks really nice and when used with the large water filled base (sold separately) I had no fear if it toppling over or blowing away. Now that the season is over, I've removed the top from the base. I hand grip bolt. and stored it away for the winter and drained the base and put it away. I recommend

I really like this umbrella. It is FAR SUPERIOR to big-box umbrellas in build quality, sturdiness, looks and operation. I love the fact that it is easy to assemble (use two people, though. Don't do it by yourself). Mine is in a fixed location, right next to the pool so I can shade my in-pool table. If you don't plan on moving it around (unlikely since it is pretty large), consider making a permanent base for it. I am not a fan of water or sand-filled bases (esp for the size), and there are many in-ground DIY bases on Amazon. Pick one, dig a large hole, put the base in, level it, fill it in with concrete, and you're done. I thoroughly believe that you get what you pay for, and the Purple Leaf umbrellas certainly prove that. We'll be enjoying this umbrella for many years. Thank you, Purple Leaf!

This umbrella is huge. It covers the whole seating area we wanted to cover from the hot afternoon sun on our patio. Easy to open and because it rotates it puts shade where you need it. It’s super heavy and made strong. Be sure to have help when you are setting it up for the first time. It’s heavy!

Read all the reviews between Purple Lead and other brands and decided to pull the trigger on this one. Got to say, pretty good quality for its price (although not that cheap). Been using it for the past couple weeks and it's been holding up just fine. Not as sturdy as I thought, but we are using it on a rooftop cabana so the wind maybe stronger. Assembly is really ~10 minutes and not alot of parts you have to deal with. Only thing is that you HAVE TO BUY THE BASE SEPARATELY (for prospetive buyers), since it doesn't come with any. The base we got is the water/sand 200LB base, which is pretty good but quite expensive though (maybe you can look for alternatives).

Highly adjustable, lots of coverage. A little unstable in windy conditions, but hasn’t ever fallen over. Only complaint is that it’s fairy heavy and not easy to get into the stand without some strength.

Well, this was darned expensive. And the base is separate, which initially made no sense to me. But...then I figured it out. The umbrella rocks. VERY heavy, but with 2 people and strong backs, very easy to assemble. Functionality is awesome, it tilts, it rotates around. Modest breeze, not even a shimmy in the whole assembly. Quality seems top notch. You pick your own base assembly, we did the standard plastic base which when filled with water, seems more than heavy enough to compensate for the lean and weight of the umbrella. But you can also dig a really big whole, dump in 700# of concrete, and then never worry about this sucker again. I subtracted a half star for value, this whole set up is about $1000, which by far is the most I've ever spent on an umbrella. But if this can hold up--totally worth it. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

Read the instructions for mounting carefully. It does not come with a base as shown in my picture. One may drill and mount it to the patio, use the optional weighted mounts, or other mounting method, I elected to keep the mounting braces from my previous umbrella (also 11ft). The holes did not align, so I centered it on the base and drilled new holes. In my case, this was far easier than dealing with purchasing weights or digging holes and mounting the optional support post in concrete. My fix took about 30 minutes and cost nothing. The umbrella assembled easily, but take note that there are a lot of things strapped together under the fabric. These need to be removed before the umbrella can be raised. The crank handles do not snap into the fittings. This was to keep children from fooling with it. Sorry, but it would be acceptable to have the children under control and the handles snap into place. Children should be instructed not touch some things and the handles should be conveniently where they need to be. This is my third umbrella, as such, and my first Purple Leaf. I love the umbrella and never had trouble with children messing with the previous umbrellas. It operates easily and is definitely, worth the money.
