Manufactured with long lasting materials, the herald features powder coated galvanized steel support arms & aluminum front & back trims. The roof panels are twin-wall polycarbonate, which are virtually unbreakable & 100% UV protected, ensuring years of quality protection. LOVE the looks and sturdiness of product. Awining is 22' in length. Used to extend the depth of current patio. Installed on a 22' 3"X13 " , 3 sided, structural beam. Very tight fit and complicated installation. A normal open area installation would be very easy. My neighbor, who is a local "handy man" and I installed the awning in 5 hours. Had all the special tools including a rolling scaffold for this installation. NO SPECIAL TOOLS NEEDED FOR NORMAL INSTALLAITION. The awing is very well designed and manufactured. Very high quality. It Can be installed by a single person except for the final stage where you need a helper to bend the top. The instructions are clear and informative and easy to follow. Amazon offered a professional installation as of 2020 at $250 which is reasonable as I spent 6 hours to do it myself. Well, it was fun but you need some skills. Thank you the manufacturer for shipping such amazing product to handy enthusiastic people and saving us a lot! 3/20/2020 After amazon posted my review I spent some time reading others reviews. Either those negative people had submitted a review to a wrong product or they are somewhat dumb. I cant get more of my new awning. I added pictures of my work to my review, and I have a neighbor inquiring about this beauty. Check it out! In addition, my installation wasn't easy as I have vinyl siding on my house. If your house is brick I guess it'll be easier. One more - the gutter - it works fine and very elegant. I will consider some improvement to have rainwater collected out of gutter somehow... ... show more

    • Lots of inconsistencies in the instructions and design - poor customer service

I can usually get through any instructions and often don't need them. These instructions are disorganized, out of date and lack the detail necessary to get the job done. The downloadable instructions on Amazon are not the most current. For example, the panel seals part number 8448 are no longer provided. Second, this item is listed as having "frosted" panels, but the box says "clear". Other ads on Amazon show clear panels as being offered which causes confusion. In reality, they only offer one configuration. The panels are a clear material that are opaque due to the internal ribs in the panel structure so this is not "frosted" and the panels are not "clear" or transparent. An image of the panel should be provided so you know what you are getting. We hoped for a frosted, less transparent look to provide more shade. Design flaw: The ends of each panel are crimped down forming a pointed edge. Where the panel rests in the rain gutter extrusion, water pools and leaks on the front side of the gutter. Basically the gutter is useless and water drains on the inside cover all along the rain gutter. The quality of the frame is good but the instructions and the gutter design are very poor. I called to Palram to get technical advice about the placement of the panels. No one answered during normal business hours so I left a message. They called me back but the associate could not answer my questions and said a technical person would call me back the next day. It's been several days and no contact from Palram. ... show more

The Palram series of awnings is a great architectural addition to any project that you might have. They're surprisingly easy to install, and seem very effective for exactly what they're designed to do - which is to keep rain away from doors. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this, but the color "smoke" in the panel description is closer to a frosted look, rather than a tinted smoke. ... show more
