I almost never review products! They generally have to be incredibly bad - so much so that I feel compelled to warn others - or amazingly great to the degree that I feel I have to tell the world. In this case, it is certainly the latter! I nearly spent $600 (sale price) on a similar cantilever umbrella at Costco. But before pulling the trigger on that purchase, I decided to take a look at prices on Amazon. When I saw the $149 price tag, and the long list of great reviews, I figured it was worth giving it a try and saving myself quite a few bucks. I am so glad I did! This product was so easy to assemble and operates flawlessly. I bought it to use as an umbrella over my hot tub and it is the perfect size. I was really impressed by the thoughtful engineering that went into this product. For my purposes, the fact that I could securely screw the base to my deck was a huge plus! First, I will say, I will say that I received this umbrella, just as the heat kicked up in the neighborhood. Installation was not as difficult as Sam would say. The only part that required to people was putting a weighted base on the cross pieces. The umbrella provides great shade, and easily turns from side to side as the sun moves across our deck. Putting it up and down is a simple process, though, if I knew must be critical, the location of the crank handle may be a little bit low for taller people. I am 5’ 6”, and the handle sits around my knee level, making it a bit difficult, but not impossible to crank up and down. As others have said, the led lights are not very bright, but they certainly are sufficient for sitting around the table where other deck lights fill out the illumination. Please note, these lights are white white! Maybe 5000-6000 kelvin, so there will be different colors of you have regular incandescent or 2500-3500 bulbs on your deck or patio. On the matter of customer service: it is excellent! My umbrella was apparently damaged on shipment, and the center post was slightly out of line when I first installed the umbrella. I contacted the seller/manufacturer and they replaced the entire umbrella within a few days (no return of the original was required, maybe because I sent pictures of the issue). I’m already thinking about getting a second one of these for the other side of the patio… perhaps next spring. ... show more

The umbrella was overall easy to put together, took about 10 minutes with 2 people including setting up the base that we bought separately. We have had it about a month now in strong sun and heat and it seems to hold up well. The handle and crank do not get too hot to touch in the sun. When open, It sways a little more than I would like even in light wind. The lights are a cool white- I think they would look better with a warm white for a more natural outdoor vibe. The media could not be loaded. It was all going so well. Looked great understand all the steps but the got to step 7. The crank handle clearly does not fit in the space provided. It's the exact same size as the hole. And the handle is also all scratched up like someone had this before and tried to hammered it it but just scratched it up. I think I got a returned item, but instead of fixing the issue with this one, they just repacked it and sent it to me. The boxes inside didn't look like they had been opened before but the shipping box did. Kind of upset. We needed this for a BBQ we were having this week. Now I have no shade...UPDATE: contacted customer service they sent me a new handle that slipped right in. Very happy with this now. It's big enough to cover the width of my deck and created so much shade. Love it. ... show more

    • When it sounds too good to be true...

This purchase reminded me of a lesson I've learned a long time ago: when something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I was literally seconds away from buying a different brand(Purple Leaf) that was more than twice the price. Then I saw this umbrella pop up on the bottom as a suggestion. It was approximately 60% less with all the same features( solar led). Over and over, I said to myself this can't be right, but the savings was just too enticing and I abandoned my common sense to take a chance. Assembly wasn't bad but when the wind picked up a little bit, I can tell the material was not going to hold up. At first, I would immediately close it if there was any hint of wind. One day in a rush to close it due to the wind slowly picking up, it bent a little and when I quickly tried to close it, I heard a pop, and it was game over. It lasted approximately 3 months, I went cheap and I paid the price. Here's another old adage: In the end, you get what you paid for. I reached out to the seller, even asked for repair tips and/or options. It's been approximate 4 days. NO RESPONSE AT ALL. ... show more

I am very happy with my new purchase. The umbrella is built vert well. The canopy is made from a heavy duty material. I do believe that this is going to last a long time. The lights are also a plus. OH and it comes with a cove also, another plus. I am glad that I purchased two. GREAT BUY
