    • Excellent manual alternative to a litter robot

My inner circle includes a lot of fellow cat owners. Some have splurged on litter robots that automatically clean litter boxes. While that sounds like a great idea, those machines are so expensive and they jam and the motors break easily. I liked the concept of how these robots clean, however, by basically sifting all the litter. This Omega Paw litter box is a good compromise, with no electronic components that will break. It functions in mechanically the same way, by sifting all the litter into a compartment, and all the large waste solids get deposited into a removal basket. We have been using flushable litter exclusively, and our cat was already using tofu litter. Tofu litter works great in this unit. One thing to keep in mind is that like most cats, ours likes to pee in particular corners, and wet litter can stick to the bottom of the pan. The Omega Paw includes instructions stamped on the bottom of the unit to "tap" the bottom to release the wet clumps. Well, it's not so much tapping as it is forceful whacking with the palm of your hand. Just bear in mind it does take some more force to release stuck-on clumps, and even so, sometimes we have to reach in with a litter scoop to loosen the really stuck-on clumps. The ejection tray is easy to use and holds quite a bit of waste. Easy to deposit in the toilet (in small amounts) and flush. Happy to see that we got the upgraded model with metal clamps to hold the two main pieces of this unit together. I can see how the older plastic clips would be less reliable.     • Good alternative to self cleaning litter box

I love this litter box. I wanted to get an easy cleaning litter box for when I was pregnant and my husband had to clean the litter box (good grief). And this litter box answered my prayers. Super easy to use. And I have to pretty large cats and they have no issues using the litter box. I don’t notice it smelling any less that normal litter boxes. Litter just smells in general. But it’s super easy to remove the litter without having to sit there and scoop. Good alternative to a very expensive self cleaning litter box in my opinion. ... show more

    • Not the same as the EZ-RA20-1 !!! This version is no good.

We have 2 of the plain gray EZ-RA-20-1 version (large size). They work great. THIS Fancy chrome fittings style EL-RA-20-1 is worthless - it's going back. It looks real similar, but has several fatal flaws. The grill part does not fit the pan properly, because the pan - at least on ours - is badly molded. Most likely a short short or incorrect cooling, because the corners are too small and there are shrink marks - possibly even a bad mold tool as well. This compounds the next 2 problems, because the lid does not fit down properly with out a struggle. The latches do not close without being forced very hard - a very frustrating struggle. They are too thick with the additional metal plating. The lid is obviously different but the cutouts for the latches are also too narrow, compounding the problem. The additional "cleaning step" feature looks like a good idea, but it is extremely difficult to clean the litter out of the grooves without using a the vacuum cleaner. This rather negates the point of easy self cleaning, since you have to clean it before rolling the thing over to dump used litter or it tips it all on the floor. (Of course, I guess you could throw that part away.) I recommend you do not get this version. Get the EZ-RA-20-1 instead. The only issue with that one is remembering to tap the easy fill chute to completely empty it before closing it, or you will get a little bit of spill on the floor - but a least it's clean litter and you probably use a mat. I can't speak for the third version, which looks like a hybrid or the other two, or the regular size ones. ... show more
