  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Happy Awning Life
Color: White with Black Stripes
Never used an awning but wanted the look and cover over part of our patio. Assembly was a bit puzzling even with my handy husband, but we survived and I’m pleased! (Connected cords to tent poles to push through) Arms under don’t extend fully for our 13x8 which seemed odd to me, but overall happy with purchase ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Be creative to get cords through fabric
Color: Gray
Husband very handy, and we have previously owned awnings, with that being said, it was a little more assembly than we thought, and took several attempts to get the 3 cords threw the fabric. After a few hours, we attached a straight metal piece to the cord and inserted and finally got it all the way in. After we put it up, it's perfect for price point. Bit does take a bit of redoing here and there. ... show more

  • 2.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
Color: Burgundy
This awning is flimsy, tricky to assemble and has questionable design choices. Remember, arms are not supposed to be straight - if you try to straighten them all the way the thing will break, see images in the manual. Very hard to install by yourself and is impossible to mount by one person. Does not come with hardware to install into wood! Directions come in the form of an instruction manual as well as a piece of paper with images. Both conveniently ignore a set of parts that are optional, you don't really need them, but once you set everything up you realize that yea, that would be a nice option to have. But no way you dissemble everything now to install this optional part. Getting the cables into the actual fabric is laborious and will hurt your fingers. I put mine awning up and it looks nice. We haven't had any wind nor rain just yet, but it's hard to imagine this awning will survive the autumn. Be careful rolling and unrolling - unless you are very careful, the whole shebang will snap and collapse, framing is thin aluminum that will bend if you spit on it. Some bolts require upside down installation, you have to introduce the nut as you hold the bolt to prevent it from falling. I still cannot tell if the roller supposed to move along the rail of the awning, and if so, how far. Nor how tight should the bolts on the moving roller be - one cast aluminum part broke in two pieces upon assembly - a replacement arrived soon enough. It has been a challenging and interesting project - never again :-) ... show more

  • 2.0 out of 5 stars Beyond difficult!
Color: Burgundy
First, as almost all other buyers note, the instructions are truly awful. I feel pretty sure that this would be the case no matter which awning you choose. Any awning in or near this price range -- and maybe all the others as well -- are made in China. Why these companies can't spend a few pennies for a tech writer fluent in English is beyond me. We purchased the 13 foot version, and there is a center support bracket packed with the item. It has separate instructions. But, while following the step by step main instructions, no mention was made of this center bracket, and when the awning was completely assembled I found I had to take it apart again in order to install the center support. When that was done, the awning support arms would no longer attach to the fabric bar -- I've tried to show this in the photos. I cut off part of the center support and then the awning could be attached to its arms, but the center support is less than it should be. Mounting the assembly to its wall brackets was painful -- the retaining bolts could not be inserted due to interference from the rolled up fabric -- which of course cannot be unrolled / extended until these bolts are in place. We installed the bolts upside down, then extended the awning and replaced the bolts in their correct positions. I am fairly competent with mechanical objects -- I have built and overhauled engines and overhauled both manual and automatic transmissions. When I was a small boy I could dismantle, clean, and re-assemble the old Sturmey-Archer 4 speed bicycle transmissions. This was utterly frustrating and painful, not least because the instructions were so inadequate. Looks like this is the game if you're buying one of these awnings. I would avoid MCombo -- who responded to my query asking for particulars, but didn't answer when I wrote at length. ... show more

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Very difficult to install and put together
Color: Dark Green with White Stripes
Since this is the first roll out awning I've ever had, it appears to be a fairly decent product. The most important thing to know is that putting this together is definitely a two person job. I spent the better part of three days doing it, mostly because the directions are so poor. I also went to youtube but that was only marginally better. Phoning for assistance proved useless because the number given was not in service. Certain parts need to fit together and it would be immensely helpful if parts were marked. Most parts need to go in a very specific manner, which would be easier if two adjoining pieces were marked in a color, like connect red line to red line. You need to insert tubing through the fabric and nowhere does it tell you where the large tubing goes or where the thin one goes. Trust me, this is very complicated for a first time user and I'm not sure if I would try it a second time. For instance, they give you mounting brackets but you don't get any directions on how far apart they should be. If the manufacturer wants to pay me, I'll do up a proper manual with all of the information that a customer could want. Then I would make a few simple suggestions that would facilitate the entire installation. The result would be more happy customers and more sales, instead of loads of frustration. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value
Color: Brick Red with Beige Stripes
I just assembled and installed a few days ago. It seems pretty well made. Opens and retracts as it should. I cannot speak to longevity. Should not be left open all the way on breezy days. As to some comments about instructions. If you have put things together before and take your time. You should not have much problem. Lay parts out. A second set of hands will be necessary. Overall i think its a good value for money. Note: one part had a crack. Contacted seller who sent out a new part within days. Seller was responsive. ... show more
