Nice product but installation is a bear. I bought the 13 x 8 awning and ended up paying a professional to put it together and to install it. The unit is heavy and awkward to handle. To complicate matters the instructions give an amateur like me a spinning headacke trying to understand. Lifting the unit up over your head once its assembled requires lots of muscles and a great deal of patience. Pre-measuring for drilling the holes for the brackets and balancing is a crucial step of the installation and you'll get little information from the included instructions. This is a two person job. Mine was installed on a cement wall so it required a heavy duty hammer drill and cement drilling bits and if you don't have these on hand and your doing it yourself then your adding significantly to your final cost. Additionally the included cement anchors are totally useless. I had to go to the local Home Depot to purchase lead anchors and appropriate screws to assure that the awning brackets were securely held. This thing is heavy, it would have been helpful if they included additional support brackets, it came with 3 but 5 would have been better for it's 13' span. So, after realizing that this was too much for me to handle, I hired a professional. It took him several hours and a couple of hundred dollars later to complete the job. My $260 initial coast for the awning ended up coasting twice as much with labor and additional parts included. However, it looks great! I would have given it a higher rating had it not been for the installation difficulty and the poor instructions. But I plan to buy two more for the other side of my home and have them installed professionally. The awing is sturdy and so far has remained in place. Although the awning looks "heavy duty", because of its weight, I don't trust it to be left rolled out even on light windy days or when there is no one at home. Damage caused by the weather is not covered under the warranty and I can see the potential of this happening particularly when the awning is rolled out 8' from the wall. By the way, my kudos to the people in customer service at MCombo, especially to Laura. My first awning arrived damaged and they were quick to rectify the issue. I just assembled and installed a few days ago. It seems pretty well made. Opens and retracts as it should. I cannot speak to longevity. Should not be left open all the way on breezy days. As to some comments about instructions. If you have put things together before and take your time. You should not have much problem. Lay parts out. A second set of hands will be necessary. Since this is the first roll out awning I've ever had, it appears to be a fairly decent product. The most important thing to know is that putting this together is definitely a two person job. I spent the better part of three days doing it, mostly because the directions are so poor. I also went to youtube but that was only marginally better. Phoning for assistance proved useless because the number given was not in service. Certain parts need to fit together and it would be immensely helpful if parts were marked. Most parts need to go in a very specific manner, which would be easier if two adjoining pieces were marked in a color, like connect red line to red line. You need to insert tubing through the fabric and nowhere does it tell you where the large tubing goes or where the thin one goes. Trust me, this is very complicated for a first time user and I'm not sure if I would try it a second time. For instance, they give you mounting brackets but you don't get any directions on how far apart they should be. If the manufacturer wants to pay me, I'll do up a proper manual with all of the information that a customer could want. Then I would make a few simple suggestions that would facilitate the entire installation. The result would be more happy customers and more sales, instead of loads of frustration. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I did not like the instructions. They helped but can be hard to understand at times. Searching for possible how to videos will helped me with assemble and install this Mcombo 13 x 7 sun shade. One person can totally handle assembly - if you have basic handyman skills you will be fine. Looking at the pieces you can intuitively see how this sun shade should go together. The pieces are long and heavy so that is another aspect to consider. The instructions say use 2 people to install it using a ladder and I agree. My biggest challenge was finding the studs. If you are going into studs you will need to use lag bolts and washers. The end result is great! The sun shade handle cranking operation works just fine and the unit installed looks pretty good. If you have any issues contact the company. They have a responsive customer service. I would recommend this product as long as you are up to the assembly and installation. Instructions were not real clear, but you can get through them. Minor adjustments needed once it was hung up. Took about 3 hours. Lag bolts were included, which was great for me. I was going into the header, so it was all wood. Had some spare parts left over in the "spare parts" box that were no where to be found on the parts list, or assembly.ooks like a center support with rollers for long spands. This is a really nice shade awning for a really great price!!! Something we really appreciate having on our high standing deck versus an umbrella that gets knocked over by the wind every time. And the price is totally awesome in comparison to what's out there for its level of quality!!!
