BMW's charging cable is a level 2 but comes with the connector to make it into a level 1. when you plug in the level 1 whip it limits the charging rate to 8 amps due to BMW assuming people will be dumb. and those 8 amps are effective. you can charge an i4 from 10% to 80% in 21 hours with it. But this el-cheapo charge cable has it's limit set to 12 amps. If your home is not poorly wired and you have 14Gauge or larger and 15 amp breakers or larger, this will charge a little bit faster. technically it's 50% faster, but its not going to be 50% faster to you, so far it looks to be around 20% faster than the BMW OEM charging cable in the level 1 mode. Now this does a couple of things. First it's way lighter, instead of using 6 gauge wire to handle 30amps at 220V it's designed to only ever do 12 amps at 120V so the wire can be smaller. Also with it being locked to 12Amps it can be safely used with a high quality 12 gauge or larger (smaller number not bigger) extension cord. This will enable people that are not close to an outlet to charge their car. a 10 gauge extension cord that is 50 feet long can handle 30 amps safely meaning it can easily handle this charger to an EV. being 75 feet from an outlet now enables apartment dwellers and townhouse renters to charge their EV at home. 12Amps uses less power than a portable Air conditioner or an electric hot plate. If you use the proper extension cord that can easily handle the amps, this is safe and effective. Durability is not even close to the OWM BMW one. I think I can run that one over with a tank and it will be fine. This charger feels delicate, meaning dont throw it at the ground, step on it, or drive over it. But it's cheap, like 1/5th the price of the BMW one. ... show more

I'm really impressed by the design and cord length this WenStorm J1772 Level 1 EV Charger offers. It is compatible with my 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cord material feels solid and likely heat resistant. Built in cord is 25ft 14 AWG. It pulls about a safe 11.34 Amps, 1.21 kW of power. This is connected to a 25 ft, 10 AWG Extension cord with a very good fit/connection (voltage drop to 107 Volts). Charging speed is slowest compared to my Lectron 15A and VW 2 in 1 EV Chargers. But it is not bulky; very compact. I highly recommended to lower Amp draw to 8A on very hot environment (90-105 F) to prevent electrical fires until cool enough in dark for full 12A. ... show more

Great charging cable for slow 120v charging when topping off over night. Level 1 charger for our garage that does not have 240v receptacle. We use a Nissan provided 240v Level charging cable in our out building shop for faster charging when necessary.

I’ve been using this charger for about a week now to keep my plug-in Prius ready for the road, and I am genuinely impressed with its performance. I have a Kia EV6, which didn’t come with a charger. I already have a level 2 charger for home charging, but I wanted something to carry around with me for emergencies. I decided a level 1 charger makes more sense for this as I’m more likely to have access to a 120 V outlet when I’m out and about even though it means a slower charge. I’ve even read some people also keep a heavy gauge extension cord in their car for extended reach as you can get away with that at level 1. I tested this WenStorm charger at home. The handle illuminated blue as soon as I plugged it into the wall. I was happy to find the 25’ cord was long enough to reach all the way from the front wall of my garage to the back of my car where the charge port is located. When I plugged it into the EV, the light on the handle started flashing green. This would just be a top off. I checked the dash, and the car said it was charging at 1.3 kW, estimating it would take about 4 hours to go from 74 to 80 percent (where I have it set to stop), and that turned out to be pretty accurate. I’m fine with those numbers. Once the charging was complete, I unplugged it, checking for excessive heat in the cord and handle. Both were fine. The handle was only a little warm and the cable was cool. I coiled it up using the straps provided. The cap is also nice to have for storage. The charger fits nicely in the frunk.
