First thing to note is that these are NOT adapters for Tesla SuperChargers. (You need to wait for the rollout of the Magic Dock adapters on the SuperChargers themselves to be able to charge a J1772 equipped car on those). These adapters are for the Tesla "Destination Chargers", which are Level 2 chargers that you commonly find at hotels and restaurants. I got this adapter to have as a backup for my Mustang Mach-E, which pulls 48A. The adapter is rated for 60A, which is what you want for a full 48A charge. You could use a 50A adapter, and it would work, but it would also probably overheat if you were doing a long charge. I wandered up to a nearby hotel to test it out, and it worked perfectly! The car started charging immediately, and everything was great! These adapters have nice latches for both ends, so the connection feels stable. But there is nothing that would stop someone from stealing your adapter. There are some out there that have a solution to lock the adapter to your car, but I only need this for emergencies, so it's not an issue for me. And best of all, this is a small adapter that fits great in my Mach-E trunk, along with the travel charger and tire inflation system! ... show more

This device, like any other currently available Tesla-to-J1772 adapter, will only ever charge at level-2 speeds. This one I ordered is limited to 60 amps (about 14.4 KW); you can also select one rated for 80 amps (19.2 KW). I own a Chevy Bolt, which is limited to 32 amps/7.7 KW. The reason I picked this adapter was for the small size, and it is indeed tiny 👍. Since I will only use this on long trips, I wanted something that would fit under the rear floor, nestled in with the level-1 charger that comes with the Bolt. This adapter fits perfectly in the Bolt's charging port. The Tesla connecter I tried is a snug fit in the adapter, requiring a little patience and effort to connect and disconnect --- I have no experience with Tesla connectors to know if this is normal, but it wasn't a problem. Once connected it latches (on both ends). It worked perfectly: I attached it to the 48 amp Tesla charger, then connected it to the Bolt exactly like any other level-2 J1772 charger, and the Bolt started charging immediately, at 7KW, fastest possible. After a half-hour, the adapter was still at room temperature, no noticeable heating. This will let me charge when visiting friends with Teslas, takes up insignificant space the rest of the time, and performs at the theoretical maximum. Five stars! I've only used it the once, for testing. I don't expect any surprises when I travel with it, but if so, I will update this review. (Reviewed 2023 October 18). ... show more

EVs are taking over and having this Tesla to J1772 adapter can come in handy when no other chargers are available. I'm still new to the EV ownership but this is like having an emergency gas can in your trunk, EV style.

Great adapter that just doubled my charging options! A lot of free charging options nearby have both a Nacs (Tesla) and J1772 charger available. Occasionally the j1172 is used or even worse - BLOCKED! If the NACS is available, I was unable to use it - but now I have a choice/option!!! The adapter is built well - there is a review here that shows it broken down and you'll see the quality. The best part for me is that it is tiny - some of the other models out there are complete charging handle - what a pain! I don't want to run to the trunk to grab the adapter - this fits in my door pocket along with an umbrella and various other things - so it does not take much space, but it is easily accessible and I don't have to fish around the trunk for it. Super satisfied and this thing will get a decent amount of use wherever there is a solo NACS or unavailable j1772. ... show more

After reading the packaging and documentation, I discovered that this EVDANCE-branded Tesla to J1772 adapter was built to handle up to 80 Amps (not just 60 Amps). As someone with an electrical engineering background, I took apart the adapter to investigate the build quality and it did not disappoint. All of the pins had an o-ring on both sides, and the main J1772 plug had a durable gasket sealing the gap between the body and the plug of the adapter. The two screws that secured the plug were machine screws (not just self-tapping) and they were set up in a way that wouldn't allow water to enter the adapter. All of the main pins were made out of a single piece of metal (unlike some adapters that have a piece of wire soldered between the respective pins). The wire that connects the PP pin to the J1772 release switch is protected with a durable sheathing and heat shrink tubing. Not all adapters have this electrical release switch, which is required by the SAE to ensure that the car stops drawing power as soon as the adapter is unlatched (and prior to the unplugging of the adapter from the vehicle). There are a lot of Tesla to J1772 adapters flooding the Amazon marketplace, especially now that so many vehicle manufacturers are moving to the NACS (aka Tesla) connector, and it can be hard to know which ones to trust. After trying this out on a EV6 and a Bolt EUV with a 3rd gen wall connector, I can trust this adapter for all of my future charging needs. ... show more

    • Works with no fuss on Mustang Mach-E
This little adapter just works. Pricing at this time is good, and the small form factor is a big plus. I cannot speak to the true "top rate" for charging yet, because I have only tested it at a Home2Suites hotel during a multi-night stay. It worked perfectly though, and prevented the need for a quick charge stop with our Mustang Mach-E. The adapter is even smaller than expected which makes storing it in the trunk easy. The specifications in the box include a huge temperature range -22F to 122F. Actual usage was simple enough that you won't need instructions. Very simple to attach and remove. I've got zero complaints, and a couple positive charging experience under my belt. I can safely recommend this adapter if you're in the market. ... show more
