15 days later and the batteries that came with this set are still working fine, and there's no Off button. The batteries cost around 40 cents each so it doesn't need an Off button considering how long they last. These have 2 sound environment settings and a volume control, both work well. At higher volume you do get squeal, but that's going to happen anytime you have a sensitive microphone near the speaker it relays sound to. Set the volume properly and wear an ear plug that fits right and it works fine. For value this can't be beat.

I thought this was a pretty bad product, but my brother-in-law, who has worn a hearing aid for years, says it is par for the course, that while it is no better, it is no worse, than any others out there. It is a hearing enhancer, not a true hearing aid. As such, the sound delivered to one's ears varies widely in amplitude. What is normally a soft sound, such as crinkling paper, becomes a booming in one's ears even when heard from across the room. On the other hand, conversational voices nearby can remain unintelligible. At first, there was a loud skreeing sound when I turned it on. With my brother-in-law's help, we managed to tone it down. However, that meant turning it down to its lowest volume and fiddling with it constantly to achieve any sort of sound that did not BOOMM out of the machine. Meantime, my sister has a really good $$$ hearing aid paid for by her company before she retired. One pair was broken and she let me wear the one that still worked. I had been wearing it until I recently bought this hearing enhancer. The difference between the sound produced by it and that produced by the hearing enhancer was out of this world. Never once was there any sudden booming of sound. Consequently, I am back to borrowing her old hearing aid until I can afford to buy my own good one. The hearing enhancer, by comparison, is intolerable. Save your money and buy the best you can afford, that is my advice. UPDATE This is not such a bad product after all. The part I had been using in my left ear didn't work properly. I discovered this after I had to buy a new pair because I accidentally left it on my dinner tray in the hospital and it got thrown in the trash. The new one works. I didn't realize the old one was defective. Good hearing aids cost thousands of dollars. I stayed with this model because it was cheap and you cannot buy hearing enhancers online with the intention of trying different models to see which works best for you.

It does a reasonably good job, I had several some last for quite a while, while others give out after month and a half. Battery life is excellent.

When I saw these, although I am not fond of over-the-ear amplifiers I thought I give them a try. This will be the 10th hearing amplifier I have tried, and quite honestly I am no closer to a solution to improve my hearing than I was at #1. They are somewhat unique in that they have a dial 1-4 for their volume which is great because you know where you are not having to count the number of beeps to determine the volume level. The microphone is somewhat larger opening then most and is protected by the over the ear tube that screws to the amplifier itself. They have two "programs" regular and noise reduction but all I can hear using the noise reduction is a decrease in volume. As to the volume I couldn't get past 1 without excessive background noise but at that level there was some hearing improvement using the regular program. These have a battery, i.e. not a rechargeable one, that goes in easy enough but as far as I can determine the device goes on when you put the battery carrier in and just stays on. I guess when you remove them from your ear you could slide the battery carrier out and leave it out until your ready to wear them again, otherwise I would think you are going to go through a lot of batteries with it being on 24/7. This also, because it is a behind the ear type, has IMO a problem for those wearing glasses or if your in an area of the country where a mask is still needed. Basically it is an OK device but behind current technology of competitive devices available in today's market. With a lower mid-range price of $55 IMO there are better selections to be made available on Amazon.
