  • Great amperage options, but charges less than setting suggests
Size: LEVEL 1+2
Works pretty well, but always charges lower than the setting- i.e. 13 amps when you set it to 16. That said, the amperage options are a great feature- it's a life saver in some home outlets where the breaker is 15A, so you set it to 8A and can trickle charge without blowing a fuse.

  • Updated - customer service excellent, replaced bad unit with a new model
Size: LEVEL 1+2
I've updated this review and changed from 1 star to 5 stars. Customer service was outstanding - they replaced my unit promptly - it was only 6 months into the 18 month warranty. And, the unit I received is clearly updated and now meets the description on this page - the handle is new, and the 'clip' has a larger range of travel (about 5mm vs. 3.5 mm of the original model). The length of the new unit is 21 ft, the original unit is about 5 feet less. So clearly, the manufacturer has done some work. The one downside is that the new carry case is much larger and won't fit in our frunk. But, if I coil the cable carefully, I can get the charger in the old case and that does fit in the frunk, so overall a win. ---------------------------------original review------------- The charging and variable voltage feature of this charger were great. The latch failed after light use, and at a most awkward and critical time. We bought this (3/2023) when we bought our new EV car, and used it at most a dozen times before we had our Lvl2 home charger installed. We kept it though, thinking it would be great to keep w/the car and charge when we were out of town. Which we did this week. Unfortunately, this time, the latch wouldn't unlatch. So we were stuck at an AirBnB, couldn't drive the car because the charger was stuck in the port and it couldn't be started or driven. Went through all the troubleshooting for the car and came up empty. Several folks got into the fun trying to get the handle out, for about 4 hours - push on the latch, wiggle it, pull it, press the latch harder. Not fun a fun morning. We located a service center that would take us in today (fortunately Portland had 5 within 20 miles), then we called a tow truck. They tried all that too, then one of the tow truck drivers got a long screw driver and was able to pry the latch up and off - after about 15 minutes. Which was awesome when considering that, with the plug in place, we couldn't turn the car on to put it in neutral, so there was going to be some funny stuff to get it loaded onto tow truck. We packed up this charger and sent it straight to recycling as after evaluating the latch it wasn't repairable - just a bad design. On the bright side - it wasn't raining, and given that this was a day in November in the PNW, and that it had been raining torrentially for days up to this point, and our car was parked outside in the driveway of our airbnb, it could have been an even more miserable morning. ... show more

  • Great adjustable charger
Size: LEVEL 1+2
My garage outlet shares the circuit breaker with a freezer. This EV charger allows me to set the maximum current to 10 amps leaving 5 amps for the freezer so both can operate at the same time without tripping the breaker. It works perfectly. It has a nice display with volts, amps and other charge information but once its going its a nice plug it in and forget about it charger. The cables are nice flex well so its easy to connect and disconnect then wrap over the holder for the cable I have. I would recommend this to anyone that needs a simple charger that the amperage is adjustable on. ... show more

  • Sturdy and flexible
Size: LEVEL 1+2
The cable that came with my car recently developed a short which interfered frequently with charging. This cable is noticeably sturdier, and I don't expect similar failure over time. Also, since it has multiple charge settings that will work in any circuit. This is a big plus, since I plan to buy another plug-in hybrid within the next year, and this cable should work on it as well. Bonus bag is the cherry on top! ... show more

  • Poorly manufactured
Size: LEVEL 2
Product worked well first few charges. Chord and charger wrapped carefully and in the manner received; however, the female component seems to have malfunctioned as there seems to have burnt do to a short within unit. Outlet grounded. Using the manufactured recommended settings.

  • Nice portable ev charger
Size: LEVEL 1+2
I got this ev charger since I own a Tesla and will probably get ford lightning. This charger does work with Tesla if you have the adapter. It came with my model 3. I was able to charge it at level 1 with this EV charger using the standard 120v outlet. It’s only getting about 7 miles per hour for me at level 1, which is a pretty good rate for this level. If I plug directly into the 240v outlet, it would be a lot faster. The charger supports both. I like the 120v option since sometimes I would rent an Airbnb and they would only have standard outlet. This allows me to charge overnight in the garage. The led display on this charger is great. It tells me voltage, amp, temp, and charge rate/time. It’s much better than the mobile charger that came with the Tesla since those only give a red or green light. Overall I’m happy with this charger. I keep it in my trunk so I can charge practically anywhere with a standard outlet. ... show more

  • A great off-grid EVSE
Size: LEVEL 1+2
I wish this same EVSE came in a 8-30A Lvl1/Lvl2 version, but this unit is quite nice. The contactor inside is a little on the light side, so time will tell on reliability (only thing I'd nitpick). Compared to my other EVSE, an OpenEVSE Lvl2 I assembled, adjustable up to 32A, this guy is less powerful (and provides less information). This EV101 on the other hand looks way more polished, and has the look of a normal EVSE. For a normal home, a fixed current unit would do the job. But as I'm using this at my off-grid property, having the ability to adjust the power output makes it far more versatile. But like the OpenEVSE, I'm sure the price will double in the short term for no good reason, because who knows why. But if you're looking for a lower power adjustable EVSE, at today's price, this is a great unit. ... show more
