    • Some initial problems but working great
It can be hard wired but it was not designed for this. As another reviewer stated it has to be wired with a flexible conduit as the screws to attach the front cover insert from the rear. Very difficult to get at. Also there is very little room to work with stiff #6 AWG wire to get it into the terminals. I had to get a Baomain crimper and connectors as I was unable to get the bare wires into the clamps. Hardwiring does allow you to go to 48 amps on a 60 amp breaker but the increase from 40 amps using the plug is probably not worth the effort. If you're a DIYer who has done any wiring you can do this alone. Hard wired I do get the full 11.5 KW so charging is quick. The first time I used it, it worked fine. The second time it stopped charging after an hour. I unplugged it then reconnected it and it finished the charge. The third time it wouldn't charge at all. I called their tech support and the tech connected to it over the internet. His first effort was to upgrade the firmware, which took less than a minute. It's worked perfectly since. The app works great. Easy to set up and configure. Very versatile as to monitoring charging. You can enter your rate per kWh and it will tell you the cost for all your electricity used. I live in an area with a very low off peak rate (5.15¢/ kWh) so it costs me 1.5¢/mile to operate my Ioniq 6. Very happy with this unit and really appreciate the lower price compared to other brands. ... show more

    • Well built
It replaces a failed charger from Siemens. Much more powerful, cables are enormously thick, hard wiring was easy and lastly, the app was easy to install and works well. I my existing wiring and fuses were only laid out for 40 amps, so i had to change the default max charge current. It took a little of searching through the app to find where i could change the setting, but found it pretty quickly. The app makes this charger actually into a great product. you can set charging times, see how much your last charge actually cost you, set the charger to use excess charge from your solar panels, etc. A great product so far and at ~$400 a great deal. ... show more

I bought the Emporia EV charger based on solid reviews, features, price, charger capabilities and overall customer satisfaction. Currently, I'm using the corded Nema14-50 power cord the unit came wired with, but I may hard wire it in the future after I've had several months to confirm it's overall reliability. This charger was very easy to install on a powered pedestal post beside my driveway. It is totally exposed to the elements in my installation, so I mounted it on the north side of the post to minimize direct summer sun exposure. It's early, but so far It has worked perfectly right out of the box and the downloadable app was a breeze to install & set up. I expect it will be a great charger for me. The 24' charging cable is very pliable, even when the overnight temperature was 11 degrees Fahrenheit. The only negative I have with the unit is the provided forked charger pistol holder. I prefer more pistol protection from the elements, better ergonomics, and a lower profile than I feel this set up provides, so I purchased a different holster. I'm getting up there in years and I truly didn't like having that metal holder extending out several inches beyond the charger. One mistake and I could easily smack into it up around my neck & face if it were attached to the chargers mounting bracket. Outside of the pistol holder, I think this is a great unit. Only ime will tell. For those considering a permanent (not portable) EV charger, I think you'd be making a great choice buying this unit. ... show more

Per the numerous reviews for this product, I would concur the majority. Easy to use, easy to install and get running. The "smart" application works well and connected fine with my WiFI with no issues. While the interface is a bit simple, I'm sure that it will improve over time. The UI is very simple and pretty intuitive, so the learning curve is pretty short. The Emporia app combined with my OEM application for my vehicle covers all that I need. I cannot comment to the long term use, but I as able to get the unit up and running in about 45min for my situation. If there are any gripes that I "could" complain about would be the flexibility and thickness of the cord itself. It's decently stiff and pretty thick, not a major gripe, but we will see over time if my garage door will hurt it over time as my car charges outside of the garage (so the cable is trapped by the door). Overall, this looks to be the best bang for the buck EVSE. In my local community, there is also a rebate that could be applied until the budgeted rebates are depleted ($250.00). With that said, the Emporia would be a no brainer as it checks a lot of boxes: High amperage, Smart EVSE, and budget friendly. ... show more

    • Great example of Home charging done right!!
Good features for a good price. App could be a bit more intuitive. In particular setting up scheduled charging. Also entering the power company time of use rate plan needs some work. I have not been able to enter our local time of use plan into the unit or set the rates manually. But other wise this unit has worked great and is high quality and so far very reliable. These units are also installed at a nearby public solar charging port at a local college that I sometimes plug into and they always work great. 2023 Bolt EUV owner. ... show more

Easy installation, easy app setup, great app control including setting the charging amps protects home power supply. Works perfectly with my EV. Charging at off-peak power company rates. Nice long charging cord. Recommend.

Read about all the features this charger offers on the Amazon and home site, and you’ll quickly find out it delivers on ALL OF THEM and then some. Easy to install, easy to use and understand. The app has a lot of features which can be confusing if you don’t have/use other Emporia devices that you link to the app…but once you explore and play with all the options in the app, you’ll discover what applies to you and what doesn’t. Highly recommend this charger for anyone who’s just a little tech savey who appreciates add-on features for add-on devices. ... show more
