Emporia is a company that stands behind their products. This is rare nowadays, and I believe you can buy an EVSE from this company and count on excellent and communicative customer service and support after purchase. The unit I purchased did have an issue, and Emporia was excellent to work with when I contacted them seeking support. Everything was completely resolved to my satisfaction and I came away from the whole interaction highly impressed with the company. I would definitely do business with them again! Of course, the unit will charge your car. It is simple and easy to work with. I love the straightforward design and basic functions on the EVSE - no nonsense, no silly additional features that seem interesting at first and then you never use again, no extra bits to malfunction. Just plug and chug - I got an electric car to save money and simplify my life, and this EVSE helps me with that goal. I would absolutely recommend the purchase to anyone with an electric vehicle.

Welcome to another world. Seriously. This fuels a driving addiction in a way that's so out of this one. You'll see. If you are looking for a good charger this works great. Just be sure to use your phone, check WiFi strength for your intended instal location. Usually this will be in a garage, where WiFi strength may be weak in spots. Between garage doors is a convenient placement, and, is out enough to catch WiFi in my location. Just an idea for you. The app is pretty sweet also. Output current can be throttled. Peace if mind when time allows, or, overnight charging. It also connects to location and knows local utility rates, off peak hours can be used with a timing schedule. Also tracks electrical cost of total, and individual charge times. Charging state can be monitored from phone. And more. I cannot compare to other brands, this is my first experience. As a novice, hey, it's a 11 kw charger. It crams electrons back into my car so it goes wooooosh! Enjoy.

I researched many different types of Level 2 chargers and decided that this was the best bang for your buck. I was 100% right. I opted for the Nema 15-40 charger for it's flexibility. 40amps is plenty fast enough for my family and probably for most people, but if youre constantly on the go then maybe hardwiring is better to get closer to 48. We installed it on a 50A outlet as recommended by manufacturer. According to the app I'm actually getting between 38 and 39 amps (9.2kWh) which brought me from 50-80% in about 2 hours. For comparison with my Level 1, that I was using for a couple weeks prior, I was getting 1kWh on the 12A setting (120v). Very slow. 4-5 milers per hour. This is a welcome change. The app is extremely useful. Paired with the Hyundai Bluelink app, i can control and view everything about my charging experience (timelines, rates, cost etc). I particularly liked that it gives you your cost per kWh based on your location. My actual cost is 11 cents per kWh for off peak and 14 cents during peak. The app rated me at 13.5 cents which will give me a very accurate estimate of what to expect (probably a little high, which i actually prefer). The graphs are very cool to view (nerd) and seeing the consistency in charge delivery gives peace of mind. The charging cord is plenty long enough- if i wanted to pull it out of the garage and charge in my driveway I could. I ended up not installing the hangar for the charger because it sticks out so far into the garage but for those with larger garages or just 1 car it's a very useful addition. The EVSE itself is high quality and very durable. Installation was straightforward and it was paired with the app in 30 seconds (wifi required). Overall, it was the best value charger out there with fast homr delivery and a high charging rate. Some chargers that do the same as this one (or less) cost $100+ more and for what? Just happy to throw the Level 1 in the trunk and forget about it. Edit (a few weeks after purchase)** I forgot my car settings are set to only accept 90% of the AC current so it could actually charge a bit faster. I have no real reason to set it to 90% but I'm new to EVs and want my car/charger to last as long as possible. I've charged it from 30% to 100% and the charger/cable isn't even warm. Incredible product- even better than when I wrote the original review.

Electrician said the install was easy. I connected to Internet when I returned home. (2.4gz only). Unit updated and it’s working well. Screen shot is what it cost me for 2 weeks of simple errands. Charging is off peak hours. A must buy!
